message from the mayor of SAINT-LAURENT Dear fellow citizens, Our sports and leisure program improves year after year thanks to the support of the many Saint-Laurent volunteer committees with which we have the privilege of collaborating. These partnerships ensure that we benefit from a broad range of comprehensive options that are sure to please every member of the family. Arts and crafts, badminton, basketball, singing, dancing, gymnastics, judo, karate, swimming, yoga and other activities can be enjoyed just steps from home – all to suit your whim! To uphold the dynamism that is prevalent among our committees, we ensure that our facilities are kept in excellent condition. That’s why our Bibliothèque du Vieux-Saint-Laurent is presently undergoing a highly anticipated restoration. The work is progressing well and we can’t wait to accommodate you at the renovated facility when it reopens. Meanwhile, the service point at Salle Saint-Joseph is satisfying the needs of local users with an excellent selection of documents for all ages. Along the same lines, our Aréna Raymond-Bourque will soon begin a major overhaul so that our skaters and hockey players can reach new heights. This project represents a merited investment at a venue which, since its opening in 1968, has been the site of many inspiring experiences. Contracts have been signed with other arenas in the region to accommodate the programs usually offered by our committees over the winter. The details are provided in the Sports section. Furthermore, with a view to facilitating activity searches, the descriptions in your Sports, Leisure and Community Life program have been reviewed to streamline the details they contain. While waiting for your favourite fall and winter activities to begin, don’t hesitate to enjoy the Summer Celebrations, which are in full swing! Until the end of August, some fifty events, all free of charge, will unfold in Saint-Laurent’s parks and public spaces. This summer, there are more opportunities than ever to get out and have fun in our wonderful community! I’d also like to mention the Sports season launch celebration, which will take place on Saturday, August 24 at the Sports Complex. Circus numbers and representatives from the different sports clubs will make the day even more fabulous! I’m looking forward to seeing you there! Alan DeSousa, FCPA, FCA Mayor of Saint-Laurent 3
