Harcourts Four Seasons Realty is delighted to partner the 2019 South Island Festival of Dressage.
Twiss Keir Realty bought fellow Harcourts franchise Four Seasons in November 2017, incorporating offices in
Rolleston and Hornby into a long-running operation that now has eight branches reaching as far north as Hanmer
Springs through to the new Lincoln office. It is the largest and busiest real estate team in Canterbury, with over
100 salespeople, 40 office support staff and 12 in the property management division.
Harcourts Four Seasons co-owner James Twiss says the expansion was designed to help the business better
weather periodic slowdowns in the market, with the Harcourts model providing strength in numbers by letting
salespeople show or sell any property listed with the company. This emphasis on networking gives sellers the
greatest possible reach and lets home buyers access a vast market through a single point of contact.
However, Twiss says it quickly became apparent that connecting North Canterbury with the fast growing Selwyn
District had a value greater than the sum of its parts. In both markets, people were essentially looking for the
same thing, he says; modern, spacious homes in safe communities within an easy commuting distance of town.
People looking in Rolleston were often looking north of Christchurch, too.
Twiss says the success of this crossover was made possible “almost overnight” by the Western Corridor
motorway, which takes people from Belfast to Hornby and beyond on high-speed roads that are collapsing
traditional notions of distance. “There is really good value in North Canterbury and people are realising that.
Prices haven’t spiralled out of control, so you might be saving $100,000,” he says.
Harcourts has 470 real estate agents working cooperatively across Canterbury, and Twiss says while this network
helps, the emphasis on Twiss’s father, Geoffrey Twiss, who founded the business in the mid-1980s and co-owner
Greg Roberts also has numerous family members on the team.

This event sees our competitors participating in pinnacle events such as the Zilco Musical Freestyles and the Super 5 League series. As has been in the past, the standard of entries is impressive and bodes well for a great competition. Sponsorship funding for these events is hugely important and ensures these regional events remain accessible to all riders. Canterbury Dressage would find it hugely challenging to provide such a quality event for our riders without your support. I hope you all have an enjoyable and profitable time. Competition Conditions
1. Rules: All competitions will be run under ESNZ GR’s, VR’s & ESNZ Rules for Dressage (ED 2016)
2. Responsibility: It is the Rider or Persons Responsible, obligation to read and understand the conditions for this
show Conditions are published in the programme and this schedule.
3. Official start time: The official event start time is 10 am on Friday 25 January, with the office open from that
time. This is the start time for the period of jurisdiction for all Equestrian Sport New Zealand (ESNZ) General
Regulations, Veterinary Regulations and ESNZ Dressage rules. All horses and ponies on the grounds after the
official start time of the event must be entered at the event unless special permission is granted by the OC.
Please note Dressage NZ rules do not allow the use of prohibited gear from time of arrival on the grounds.
4. Amendments: The OC reserves the right to alter the programme/schedule and/or prize money within the ESNZ
GR’s/Dressage NZ Rules.
5. Upgradings: Please notify Sarah Hazlewood immediately. Failure to do so prior to show will result in no refund
and additional entry fees charged. Other changes at event, a fee of $15 per class is applicable
6. Presentation of Prizes & Prize Money: See Article 485 Presentation times will be advised in the program.
The OC reserves the right to substitute prize money with goods to the equal value. All prize money will be
paid by Direct Credit within 21 days of the event. You must ensure your bank account number is loaded into
Equestrian Entries, otherwise prize money cannot and will not be paid. The OC reserves the right to withhold
prize monies should a place getter not attend an advertised prize giving. Riders who have conflicting class times
must nominate another person to the event office to collect their prizes/rosettes at the prize giving.
7. Draw: If required, a revised draw and/or start times for the following day’s competition will be available by 7.00
pm on the results board. The OC reserves the right to alter the program to ensure the smooth running of the event.
It is the rider’s responsibility to check any new times posted.
8. Equal Placings: In the case of equality in any qualifying class, the higher collective marks will determine the higher
placing. If the competitors are still equal then the higher co-efficient marks will determine the placings. If there
is still an equality of points, the competitors are given the same placing.
9. Arena Familiarisation: 11 am – 11.30 am on Friday for all arenas.
General Venue Conditions
1. Dogs must be on a lead at all times and not within ten metres of the competition areas.
2. No smoking in any buildings or in stable/yard areas. NO cigarette butts are to be thrown on the ground.
3. Canterbury Dressage nor any representative of these bodies, accepts any liability for any loss, damage, injury
or illness to horse/pony/rider, spectators, land, vehicles or any personal property whether caused by their
negligence or breach of contract in any way whatsoever
4. Canterbury Dressage shall not be liable for the safety of any goods/equipment or the loss of, or damage to such
goods and equipment, brought in/stored at the venue, during the period of use.
5. Any damage to SINEC facilities to be reported immediately to the office.
6. Safety hats must be worn at all times when riding any time at the SINEC.
7. All horses and ponies on the grounds must be entered at the event unless the OC gives express permission
otherwise.
Camping
1. Parking and camping areas will be defined. Some areas will be restricted to on site camping/parking only.
Day competitors must only park in designated day parking areas. Please be tidy and use bins for all other
rubbish. Do not plug horse trucks caravans etc in to the stables or toilets.
2. Please DO NOT empty chemical toilets into the Centre’s toilets.
Horse Identification, Accommodation & Wash Down Bays
1. ESNZ horse identification numbers must be worn at all times when competing. When not competing,
all horses should have ID tags or ESNZ numbers attached. It is requested that during non-competition times
these ID tags also include horse and person responsible name and contact.
2. All yards/pens/stables are to be left properly mucked out horse muck bins will be located near each
yard/stable area for this purpose.
3. No form of temporary yarding is permitted.
4. Please keep wash down bays clean at all times.
Code of Conduct
1. In all equestrian sports the horse must be considered paramount.
2. The well-being of the horse shall be above the demands of breeders, trainers, riders, owners, dealers,
organisers, sponsors or officials.
3. All handling and veterinary treatment must ensure the health and welfare of the horse.
4. The highest standards of nutrition, health, sanitation and safety shall be encouraged and maintained at all times.
5. Adequate provision must be made for ventilation, feeding, watering and maintaining a healthy environment during
transportation.
6. Emphasis should be placed on increasing education in training and equestrian practices and on promoting
scientific studies in equine health.
7. In the interests of the horse, the fitness and competence of the rider shall be regarded as essential.
8. All riding and training methods must take account of the horse as a living entity and must not include any
technique considered by the FEI to be abusive.
9. National Federations should establish adequate controls in order that all persons and bodies under their
jurisdiction respect the welfare of the horse.
10. The National and International Rules and Regulations in equestrian sport regarding the health and welfare of the
horse must be adhered to not only during national and international events, but also in training.
11. Competition Rules and Regulations shall be continually reviewed to ensure such welfare.

Championships
1. Points are allocated 20 for 1st, to 1 for 20th in all classes.
2. Points are allocated 30 for 1st to 1.5 for 20th in all classes denoted by **
3. For Grade Champions & Reserves: Level 1 – Level 9: The horse with the highest aggregate allocated points from
specified classes will be the Championship winner. In the event of a tie, the combination with the highest place
in the ** Class is the winner. If there is still a tie, the combination with the highest average % will be the winner.
If there is a further tie, the combination with the highest aggregate collective marks in the final ** will be the
winner.
4. To be eligible for championship points and awards you must achieve a minimum score of 57%.
Level 6/7 Championships
1. Level 6: For horses with not more than 60 points in Level 7 or above
2. Level 6 Championship: Classes 60, 61 and 62 (Level 6 horses)
3. Level 7 Championship: Classes 71, 72 and 73 (Level 7 horses)
South Island Super 5 League
1. All Super 5 League classes must be ridden from memory.
2. If entries for Super 5 League Competitions exceed 30, they may be split into two divisions. However, each division
must have a minimum of 15 entries.
3. The Super 5 League qualifiers are open to any registered horse/pony under Article 460 (2008) to enter in the
Level of their choice.
4. Horses/Ponies may start in more than one Super 5 Qualifier per event if eligible according to Article 460 (Grading
of Horses & Ponies).
5. Horses who are entered in the final of the Super 5, who have not qualified will be allowed to compete in the
class for Championship Points only. Only Super 5 qualified horses will be eligible for Super 5 placings and prize
money. Championship points will be allocated for overall class placings.
6. A list of qualified horses can be found on the score board in the marque.
7. Super 5 Qualification Requirement:
To compete in an Island final one qualification score must be gained in a Super 5 League class at a Premier
League or Island Championship event between the following dates. For South Island Festival of Dressage – 20
September 2018 and 14 January 2019.
Levels 1 - 2: One total score of 63% and over
Levels 3 - 5: One total score of 60% and over
Levels 6 - 9: One total score of 57% and over
A total score is the final combined marks of all judges.
Prize Giving
Riders are to be correctly attired for all presentations.
Friday – no Prize Giving. Please pick rosettes up from the office, except for Musical Freestyles which will be presented
on Sunday
Saturday – approximately 7.00 pm - all classes unmounted
Sunday - approximately 1.00 pm – all classes unmounted

Following the riders’ meeting there will be an opportunity to meet with the
Dressage NZ Board members who look forward to meeting
riders, volunteers and friends of dressage.New Zealand Hanoverian Society Sash The New Zealand Hanoverian Society is proud to be working with Dressage Canterbury to identify the best performed Hanoverian registered horse and rider combination at this prestigious championship show. The Society aims to promote the breeding of quality rideable, competitive warmblood horses. Therefore it is important to recognise the successes of such individuals as will be done at this Championship Show. The winners being the highest level Hanoverian Champion in Levels 1-3 and the highest level Hanoverian Champion in Level 4 and above. If there is no Hanoverian Champion then it will go to the highest level Hanoverian Reserve Champion. If there is neither the Sash Award will lapse for that grade this year. Zilco Musical Freestyles Riders are to hand in their CD to the caravan adjacent to Arena 1, one hour before your class is to commence. All music must be on a CD (no re-writable CDs or cassette tapes) and must be ready to play your music, with instructions included. Equissage – Amateur Rider Performance Awards This competition is designed to promote dressage competition to CN-C5 riders. For the purpose of this series, eligible riders are those who do not have 15 or more grading points at any level ABOVE Level 5 at the beginning of the competition season (1 August 2018). These riders are vitally important to Dressage NZ’s ability to develop the sport at all levels and it provides an opportunity for riders to compete against their peers without long distance travel. The competition is open to riders 21years and over at 1/8/18 and is run in four National divisions plus special awards, with twenty area winners. Competition runs from 1 August 2018 to 30 April 2019. Prestige Equestrian Dressage Futures Prize The Prestige Equestrian Futures prize will be awarded to the best performed 7-10 year old horse competing at Level 4 and above in the National dressage Challenge Accumulators. Pryde’s Easifeed South Island Young Rider Hi-Points Series. Each of the seven South Island regional events, plus the SI Champs will offer a Pryde’s Easifeed Hi-points qualifier with the South Island Champs being the final series. AMS Saddlery Pony & Young Rider Performance League To increase participation at a Pony & Young Rider level and establish a culture where these riders compete against their peers of a similar age and experience in classes at Levels 1 & 2. Equizee Pony & Young Rider Amateur Top Ten League The Pony and Young Rider Amateur Top Ten League is to encourage participation by pony and young riders. Awards will be presented annually at area level and nationally at the Dressage NZ awards dinner. Riders must be C5 or below (have never earned more than 15 Level 6 points. Dressage Masters Top 10 League This competition is designed to promote dressage competition and participation for Masters Riders. The Flying Horse series provides an opportunity for riders to compete against peers at five different levels at all levels of events and competition regardless whether riders compete locally, regionally or nationally. The competition will be open to riders 50 years and over and is run in five main divisions plus special awards. Competition runs from 1 May 2018 to 30 April 2019.

Round one of the 2019 York Corporation Inter-Island Young Rider Challenge is proudly sponsored by Richmond

North Island Young Riders Ready for the Challenge
A strong North Island Young Rider team has been selected to contest the first leg of the York Corporation Inter-
Island Team Challenge to be held at the Harcourts Four Seasons Realty South Island Festival of Dressage from
25-27 January at McLeans Island NEC. The competition is again generously sponsored by Nelson based
Richmond Saddlery and the North Island team is proudly supported by Canterbury based company Wallboard
& Insulation Supplies.
The North Island Challengers, Becki Williamson (Waitemata), Willa Aitken (Northern Hawke’s Bay) and Emma
Harding (Wellington) will compete on loan horses at Levels 2, 3 & 4. This will all make for another very exciting
annual inter-island challenge.
The South Island Challengers, Emma Copplestone (Canterbury), Rilee McMeeken (Nelson) and Giselle Conway
(Queenstown) have been selected from equivalent grades of horses.
Thank you to the generous owners, Robert Kofoed (First Choice), Joy White (Astek Gangstar Girl) and Mette
Neilsen (Geneva Star). South Island leg challenge organiser Mel Bruce provides a reserve horse.
Round 2 will be held at the Equestrian Entries Under 25 Champs in April where the South Island team will ride
loan horses.
North Island Team
Willa Aitken
“I have been passionate about horses for as long as I can remember and this passion has
taught me many valuable skills including perseverance, time management and how to
handle responsibility”.
From Waipawa in Northern Hawke’s Bay, twenty year old Willa is in her final year as a
young rider, having just returned from a gap year in the UK working six months at
Sheepcote Stud under the guidance of David Pincus, at the St John Stud and in Germany
which all added the experiences of riding clients horses, assisting with the
breaking/starting of horses and training student horses in addition to her own allocated
ride.
She is currently studying a triple major (in Environmental studies, History and Law) at
Victoria University of Wellington.
During the 2017-18 season she competed Alpha Beta at Level 4, and was the Young Rider Level 3 Champion on
this ride. She has competed to Level 5 and trained at PSG.“I have always wanted to be a part of a New Zealand Dressage team. Last year I was selected for the NZ Young
Rider Training Squad. However when the opportunity to ride in England arose it was too good to miss. I love
being a part of a team as I work well with others and always bring a positive and perky angle to everything.
Being a member of this NI team brings me one step closer to representing New Zealand”.
Rebecca Williamson (Becki)
Sixteen year old Becki has grown up with dressage being a daily part
of family life being the younger generation of Waitemata based Team
Williamson. Becki sees this opportunity as a great way to develop
her own skill set. She was a member of the NI Talent ID Squad 2018
and the winning North Island team on Don Tobio at the 2018 Inter-
Island Challenge in Taupo. She now gets to experience the unique
factors loan horse experience presents.
“This will be a great opportunity for me to compete in an unfamiliar
environment and improve my riding ability. Mom (Wendi) always
says that one way to improve riding is to take opportunities to ride different horses; each horse teaches you
something new about how to train horses for dressage. Competing on a borrowed horse will provide me with
a chance to build my confidence, improve my riding, and provide me with new techniques to use when training
my own young horses, Don Tobio and Schnapps MH”.
Emma Harding
Wellington’s Emma Harding (18) has been competing in Level 3 on her pony
Poetic Ruby and has recently been lucky enough to secure her first horse
Vollrath Lush. She was a member of the 2018 NI Talent ID Squad. She enjoys
schooling other horses at a variety of levels, passed her pony Club C+
certificate on a borrowed mount, and has successfully competed a borrowed
mount in an individual competition. “So while I have not ridden a loan horse
in a team competition situation, I feel that this Team Challenge will be a
fantastic way to consolidate these skills and knowledge that I learnt whilst
being in the TID squad. I also believe that riding a number of horses is
instrumental in ultimately improving my riding and overall knowledge”.
South Island Team
Emma Copplestone
Canterbury’s 15 year old Emma has been competing in dressage for three
years. Working closely with her trainer Sophie Griffiths, she has trained her
current pony Dinky Di-Doff to Level 4 and is planning to contest the Pony of
the Year title at the 2019 Land Rover Horse of the Year. Emma is a member
of the South Island Talent ID Squad for the 2018/2019 season and is very
excited to be representing the South Island in the Inter Island Team
Challenge. With the opportunities that Dressage NZ has provided, Emma is
able to measure and improve her riding as well as meet other inspirational
riders along the way. She is thankful for having a supportive family and
network which enables her to continue her equine passion. In her spare time Emma enjoys taking on horses to
train as she feels you can always learn something new from a different mount. At the 2018 NZPCA Dressage
Championships Emma was a part of the winning Canterbury Dressage Team and she was also awarded the
highest scoring junior newcomer nationally award.Rilee McMeekin
Rilee first met Solly (Solitar Storm) nearly six years ago when she moved to Nelson.
All she can remember is that she really wanted to ride him one day. Fast forward
to 2016 and Solly’s owner Anna Terrell let Rilee ride the “gorgeous giant” and they
haven’t looked back since that day. “I still surprise myself when I think back on my
first year with him – especially when it was only really with him that I got addicted
to dressage after coming off mainly eventing/jumping ponies. Although I’ve been
bitten by the dressage bug Solly and I still love to jump.
We overcame a big accident together and I still strongly believe that I had the ability
to do this so quickly due to the immense amount of trust I have in the big boy and
we have come out the other side like nothing ever occurred”.
The pair currently hold two 2017/18 national awards, the AMS Young Rider Performance Award Level 1 and
the HorseSports Top Ten League Level 1 for horses.
Rilee was nominated for the 2018 Tasman Young Sportswoman of the year and is a member of the 18/19 South
Island Talent ID Squad. “All I can say is that when I started riding at the age of 4, I could not envisage that I could
reach these levels – especially when I still see horse riding for enjoyment. I can never thank Anna enough for
letting and teaching me how to ride Solly and about dressage in general.
Giselle Conway
Giselle is a 14 year old from Queenstown who has been riding for two and a
half years. Her trainer, Coralie Williams from Auckland, has been
instrumental in developing her skills having started out at the training
levels. She currently has Saltador, a 2* eventer that she still events, and has
also taken to ESNZ Dressage Level 3. The pair have been very competitive at
the Otago and Southland Championships and Giselle is looking forward to
competing in the South Island Championships. Giselle has been a member
of the South Island Talent ID Squad for two years in 17/18 and again this
year. She has met some wonderful friends through this opportunity! She is
incredibly thankful to Dressage NZ who have helped her achieve her goals so
far through providing the platform for her growth. Giselle loves training
horses every day, and hopes to represent NZ in dressage in the future, and is “over the moon” to be selected
for the Inter Island Team Challenge representing the South Island!
