4 SA FASHION WEEK INTRODUCTION Our principal concern this season, was to continue to bolster the creative fashion industry as it faces the unprecedented challenge posed by the global coronavirus pandemic. Equally, and despite having to focus on mitigating the disruptive impact of the pandemic during 2020, the central pillars of SAFW’s scope of business, as a holistic driver of capacity building in the creative fashion industry, remains in place. In line with the international trend and the increasing move towards a slow fashion ethos of sustainable and timeless design, SAFW SS21, too, was marked by the emergence of trans-seasonal collections, which incorporate both cool and warm weather elements. 40 SA FASHION WEEK X AV I E R S A D A N SOUTH AFRICA We like to tell stories, through our clothing. These stories provide new perspectives of South African life. While the garments have multiple layers of meaning, they are also designed to be easy to wear. Each collection is defined to a concept, and each garment is drenched with references to it. Our unique vision of modernity is one where our clothes serve the wearer as items of beauty. We construct collections that are rooted in menswear, while exploring the area between soft masculinity and strong femininity. The label is created for individuals with a certain outlook rather than of a certain gender, @xaviersadansouthafrica age, or size. All garments have 3D printed buttons, an industry first. They are designed and produced specifically for us, partially out of plastic off-cuts, and can be re-smelted into something new at the end of its lifespan, making them 100% recyclable.
