                                          MARTELL HOME BUILDERS
                                          Pierre Martell knew virtually nothing about social media
                                          when he got started. But he did know he needed help
                                          with his young home-building company in Moncton,
                                          New Brunswick. He was having trouble attracting clients
                                          in a tough market. And he had no money for advertising.

                                          Martell decided to harness the low-cost power of social
                                          media. He created a YouTube channel and posted short
                                          interviews with contractors offering renovation tips. It was

                                            “Social media has allowed people to get to know us and
                                            trust us before we physically meet them,” says Martell,
                                            who has more than 12,000 Twitter followers. “Now when
                                            people call, they already know us.”

                                            Martell’s social media strategy promotes his fresh and
                                            innovative brand with fun, imaginative content that lets
                                            employees’ personalities shine.

                                            He suggests getting started by focusing on one or two
                                            social media sites. “Figure out what you like to do and
                                            are good at, and do that. If you have a good presence, do
                                            YouTube videos. If you have no time or don’t like to write,
                                            Twitter is a good option.”
