Sir John Thompson Weekly Update – June 24th, 2022 Hello everyone! Happy positive Friday to you all. This will be the last Friday update until the next school year. I want to thank you all for your flexibility, adaptability, and support of your children and our school. Today I sent out a letter to our next year grade 7’s outlining some preliminary information to assist them going into the summer months. We will be sending a similar letter to our next year grade 8’s and 9’s later this week. In it you will find important information about school reopening etc. I want to take this opportunity to wish all our grade 9 families and their children well in their upcoming transition to high school. I sincerely wish you all a great summer break and hope you all get the rest that you deserve! I leave you with my favorite prayer at the end of the school year. At the end of this school year, we give thanks to God: For all the teaching and learning that has taken place in our school, both in and out of the classroom, For the talents and gifts that have been shared and the challenges that have been faced; For the burdens that have been lifted and the hurts that have been healed; For the respect and care that has been given. We give thanks for the friendships that have just begun and for those that have grown. For the faith that has been lived in our daily struggles, For the hope that has lifted our hearts on the dark days and for the love that has kept us going. We give thanks for the community that we are, and we ask you Lord - Bless our families as we take our holidays, may our time together leave us with memories to cherish. Pour out your love on us that we may return renewed and refreshed to continue our journey together. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen God bless you all, Kelly L. Science Garden Beds! The Science 9 EAPs have been diligently collecting recyclable cans and bottles all year and have raised enough money to construct three garden beds! They have been filled with soil and planted now with a variety of herbs, flowers, and vegetables thanks in part to a generous donation by Aspen Ridge Greenhouses in Sherwood Park. This is the start of a very exciting school garden project organized by our science classes. Sir John Thompson Weekly Update – June 17th, 2022 Hello everyone and a happy positive Friday to you all! I want to wish all our fathers out there a very special day this Sunday. I wanted to share with you all a message sent to our division staff from our Chief Superintendent Robert Martin. On Father’s Day, we often look to Joseph as a fundamental example of fatherhood for the way that he completely embraced his call to be the earthly father of Jesus. This day also creates a wonderful opportunity for us to look to our Heavenly Father to seek the ultimate example of fatherhood. When we pray the Lord’s Prayer, the Our Father, using the words that Jesus taught us, let us also hold a benediction in our hearts for all those who embrace the call to be earthly fathers or father-figures, that they may use this sacred prayer as their wise guidance for this special vocation. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
Amen. Happy Father’s Day! Thank you all for your continued support of your children and us who educate them. We appreciate you all! Blessings this weekend. Sincerely, Kelly L. Happy positive Friday to you all. Today marks the end of our Pride week celebrations at SJT. We have marked each day by distributing colored beads for students to put in their shoelaces as well as selling Rainbow cupcakes at lunch in our common area. Today we saw many of our students and staff dress in rainbow colored clothing. As today is positive Friday our classes wrote a positive anonymous message on post it notes, and our Triton Pride group distributed them on students’ lockers at lunch. In addition, throughout the last week we began our day by learning about individuals who have impacted the 2SLGBTQ greatly with their contributions to their communities. Sir John Thompson Weekly Update – June 3rd, 2022 Hello everyone and a happy positive Friday to you all! I wish to sincerely thank all our parents and guardians for their support of us and their children. We truly are grateful for all of the kind words and helping to prepare your child for the upcoming last few weeks. I want to pass along a wonderful prayer that I heard at my last Junior High Principals meeting in honor of National Indigenous History Month. Earth teach me stillness – as the grasses are stilled with light. Earth teach me suffering – as the old stones suffer with memory. Earth teach me humility – as blossoms are humble with beginning. Earth teach me caring – as the mother who secures her young. Earth teach me courage – as the tree which stands all alone. Earth teach me limitation – as the ant which crawls on the ground. Earth teach me freedom – as the eagle which soars in the sky. Earth teach me resignation – as the seed which rises in the spring. Earth teach me regeneration – as the seed which rises in the spring. Earth teach me to forget myself – as melted snow forgets its life.
Earth teach me to remember kindness – as dry fields weep with rain. AMEN Blessings to you and your family this weekend. Sincerely, Kelly L.
