SHOE REPAIR AWARENESS
PROMOTE SHOE REPAIR
IN OCTOBER
National Shoe Repair Awareness Week is October 9-13 this
year, and SSIA is celebrating by creating materials to help you
promote shoe repair in your community.

“Our theme this year is If the Shoe Fits, Repair It,” says SSIA
President Sandra Verbruggen. “We have created materials to
reinforce how shoe repair saves consumers favorite shoes, saves
them money, saves them physical discomfort and helps to save
the environment.”
Bag Stuffer: There is artwork for a bag-stuffer you can send

Long Beach, CA in July for an interesting and informative meet-

and 34 exhibiting companies. The convention attracted retailers
from 24 states and four countries outside of the United States.
The show floor was crowded with people looking for ways to
                                enhance their businesses.

What goes into competition shoes? Passion. Effort. Time.

Passion, because you have to love what you do. Its not just a job, it’s
an art. Effort, because you have to strive to put your absolute best
into it. And time, because you don’t want to rush. You need to pay
attention to details, no matter how small or insignificant they may
seem. You want your shoes to be as good, or if not better than when
they were fresh from the box.

I recommend that everyone enter these competitions. They push
you to do your best. They tell you where you need improvement.
There is no better learning experience. Competitions help us grow
as craftsmen. Every job, repair or contest can be a learning experi-

capable of, if you don’t try?” So, every day I try, and I hope everyone
                               else will too.
