Dear Walk & Waggers, Thank you for joining North Shore Animal League America’s Walk & Wag! During the month of September leash up your pup, choose your date, location and distance... and get wagging! Participating in Walk & Wag gives our animal lovers and adopters the chance to do something positive and active, while raising crucial funds for homeless animals who need your support – now more than ever. Walkers can participate right from their community, anywhere in the nation! Form a team with your friends, family, or coworkers, sign up as an individual and walk with your four legged buddy, or if you’re a runner, register for our first ever virtual 5k. You and your family get active while raising important lifesaving funds for dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. As an added benefit, you’ll qualify for exciting fundraising opportunities and contests. Stay informed by checking out our weekly walk emails for more details. Also new this year we have a virtual vendor village and silent auction with adorable accessories for your pup! Since 1944, North Shore Animal League America has been the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization and has saved the lives of more than 1.1 million companion animals. Through our many innovative programs, we find loving, responsible homes for animals rescued from overcrowded shelters, unwanted litters, puppy mills, natural disasters, and other emergencies. We are dedicated to promoting pet adoptions, encouraging spay/neuter programs, ending animal cruelty, ending euthanasia, and advancing the highest standards in animal rescue. Event Information GENERAL INFORMATION Walk or run with your pup during the month of September on a trail, in a park, or anywhere in your neighborhood. You can also walk with your friends, family, and colleagues! WALK SUGGESTIONS • Define your walk Plan a walk or run route for you and your pooch during the month of September. You could set a goal for the amount of distance you’d like to walk in total, or if participating in the 5k, plan a 3.1 mile route. You can download the WoofTrax app to track your distance. Just be sure to follow your state’s Covid-19 guidelines. • Form a team Ask your friends, colleagues, and family to form a join you! First, register yourself by forming a team and creating a team name. Then, invite others to register and join your team! There is more information about being a Team Captain on page 6. • Bring water Make sure there is plenty of water on hand for both dogs and human walker and waggers. • Submit your fundraising Be sure to check your email to learn about deadlines and to find out more information about upcoming activities and contests for you to participate in. Once registered, you’ll have access to your own customizable fundraising web page to help collect donations and tell your story. • Download the North Shore Animal League America Fundraising App Download our App for a simple way to access your fundraising webpage, track emails to family, friends, and colleagues and share your page on social media. Head to your App store and search “NSALA Fundraisers.” After downloading, you can register or enter your information from a previous account. WALKING YOUR DOG We want all dogs to be happy ones! Please be sure your dog is friendly to humans and other dogs. Please remember that DOGS MUST BE LEASHED at all times. Your dog is always your responsibility. Please be sure to clean up after him/her and provide them with water. 2
New This Year! Vendor Village We will be hosting a Virtual Vendor Village that allows participants to easily visit the numerous booths, learn about the various sponsors’ products, and receive discounts and special offers. Auction New to this event, will be a Silent Auction which allows us to raise even more funds for our lifesaving mission. Auction items up for bid will include items not just for humans, but for our furry family members too. Browse our amazing packages featuring products from incredible animal loving companies including KONG, Monica Rich Kosann, Lucy & Co., The Surpreme Paw Supply and much more. Also featured for the art and animal lover is several custom pet portraits. 5K We are thrilled to be introducing a 5K for our Walk & Wag runners! Participants who raise a minimum of $250 and share proof of their run using the Wooftrax app (or other fitness app of choice), will receive a special Team Animal League running singlet. 3
Fundr e v e l s aising Prize L Challenge yourself and earn prizes for reaching fundraising milestones. Individual participants who meet fundraising levels of $100, $500, or $1,000 qualify. All prizes are cumulative. In addition to these prizes 5K runners also receive a Team Animal League singlet when they make their $250 goal. Boost Your Fundraising Want to raise more funds to help homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens? See below for some helpful tips and fundraising ideas. TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL ONLINE FUNDRAISING Utilize social media to share stories about the special animals in your life and why raising funds for North Shore Animal League America’s no-kill mission is so important to you. Link your fundraising page with Facebook. This is easy to do from your participant center and helps you reach your goal while sharing your story. If you need help linking your fundraising page through your participant center, email events@animalleague.org Use photos and videos as online fundraising tools - images are a great way to attract interest. Download the NSALA App to easily update and monitor your fundraising page. You can also track emails you’ve sent and view contributions to your walk page. Visit your app store and search NSALA Fundraising to download! FUN FUNDRAISING IDEAS: Send letters out to friends, family and co-workers and ask them to contribute on behalf of your dog or cat. Livestream one of your walks! Ask everyone who views to donate. Make your fundraising walks more fun by participating in our activities, scavenger hunt, and fundraising contests. Or, start your own contest with your family and friends and see who can raise the most money in a 24 hour period or can walk the longest distance. Print out a copy of the Why I Walk & Wag sign and proudly display it on your front window or door so people know that you are participating! You can also take a photo with it and post it on social media using the hashtag #walkandwag2021 and tag @animalleague. Ask your company if they have a matching gift program. A company will sometimes match a gift when an employee makes a donation. Matching gifts can make a huge impact in fundraising totals! 5
I'm a Team Captain....now what? As a Team Captain, your role is to: Form your team and create a team name, make fund- raising goals, motivate your team and HAVE FUN! STEP 1: Recruit Your Team Members • Teams should consist of 3 or more members. • Ask potential team members to register by emailing them the registration link once you have created your team. • Ask family and friends who share a love for saving the lives of dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens! • Involve your company and employer. Ask your co-workers who share your love of animals to join your virtual team and invite your boss to engage your company. This is a great activity to keep co-workers connected if they are working from home. Sponsorships are also available, for more information email events@animalleague.org. STEP 2: Tips for Team Captains • Set a team goal of at least $500 and help individual team members to set their own goals. • Make sure all of your team members are aware of the fundraising prize levels to help keep them motivated. • Share your passion for rescuing animals, your love for pets, and your enthusiasm to raise funds for a cause you feel strongly about! • Highlight your team’s progress through email alerts, community or company newsletters, your Facebook group, or memos to employees and managers. • Make it a challenge to see who can raise the most money - everyone loves a little friendly competition! • Encourage your team to download the Walk & Wag app. You can download this app by visiting your app store and searching NSALA Fundraising. STEP 3: After Your Walk • Congratulate your team for fundraising and joining your team. • Thank all of your team members and donors for their support and dedication to saving lives. • Celebrate your team – acknowledge your top fundraiser, or the person who walked the longest distance.
