Opening Hymn: 480 He’s Risen, He’s Risen
      1 He’s risen, He’s risen, Christ Jesus, the Lord;
          He opened death’s prison, the_incarnate, true Word.
          Break forth, hosts of heaven, in jubilant song
          And earth, sea, and mountain their praises prolong.
         2 The foe was triumphant when on Calvary
                The Lord of creation was nailed to the tree.
                In Satan’s domain did the hosts shout and jeer,
                For Jesus was slain, whom the evil ones fear.
         3 But short was their triumph; the Savior arose,
                And death, hell, and Satan He vanquished, His foes.
                The conquering Lord lifts His banner on high;
                He lives, yes, He lives, and will nevermore die.
         4      O, where is your sting, death? We fear you no more;
                Christ rose, and now open is fair Eden’s door.
                For all our transgressions His blood does atone;
                Redeemed and forgiven, we now are His own.
        D 5     Then sing your hosannas and raise your glad voice;
                Proclaim the blest tidings that all may rejoice.
                Laud, honor, and praise to the Lamb that was slain:
                With Father and Spirit He ever shall reign.

                let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise.
                For the Lord is a great God
                and a great king above all gods.
                The deep places of the earth are in His hand;
                the strength of the hills is His also.
The sea is His, for He made it,
              and His hand formed the dry land.
              O come, let us worship and bow down,
              let us kneel before the Lord, our maker.
              For He is our God,
              and we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand.
              Glory be to the Father and to the Son
              and to the Holy Spirit;
              as it was in the beginning,
              is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Office Hymn: 487 Come, You Faithful, Raise the Strain
       1 Come, you faithful, raise the 2 ’Tis the spring of souls today:

             Of triumphant gladness! And from three days’ sleep in
          God has brought His Israel death
             Into joy from sadness,                     As a sun has risen;
          Loosed from Pharaoh’s bitter All the winter of our sins,
          yoke Long and dark, is flying
             Jacob’s sons and daughters, From His light, to whom is giv’n

       3 Now the queen of seasons, bright 4 For today among His own
                With the day of splendor, Christ appeared, bestowing
              With the royal feast of feasts His deep peace, which evermore
                Comes its joy to render; Passes human knowing.
              Comes to gladden faithful hearts Neither could the gates of death
                Which with true affection Nor the tomb’s dark portal
              Welcome in unwearied strain Nor the watchers nor the seal
                Jesus’ resurrection! Hold Him as a mortal.

       5      Alleluia! Now we cry
                To our King immortal,
              Who, triumphant, burst the bars
                Of the tomb’s dark portal.
              Come, you faithful, raise the strain
                Of triumphant gladness!
              God has brought His Israel
                Into joy from sadness!

First Reading                                                                                Acts 4:32–35
          32
           The full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of
      the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. 33And with great
      power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great
      grace was upon them all. 34There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were
      owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35and laid it at the
      apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.
      A O Lord, have mercy on us.
      C        Thanks be to God.
Epistle Reading                                                                               1 John 1:1—2:2
          1
           That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes,
      which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2the life
      was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life,
      which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3that which we have seen and heard we
      proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is
      with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4And we are writing these things so that our joy may
      be complete.
         5
           This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him
      is no darkness at all. 6If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie
      and do not practice the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship
      with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8If we say we have no
      sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just
      to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say we have not sinned,
      we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
         1
           My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does
      sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2He is the propitiation for our
      sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
      A O Lord, have mercy on us.
      C        Thanks be to God.
Gospel Reading                                                                               John 20:19–31
          19
            On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the
      disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be
      with you.” 20When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples
      were glad when they saw the Lord. 21Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father
      has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22And when he had said this, he breathed on them and
      said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive the sins of anyone, they are forgiven; if
      you withhold forgiveness from anyone, it is withheld.”
         24
            Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25So
      the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his
      hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into
      his side, I will never believe.”
         26
            Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the
      doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27Then he
      said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in
      my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”
29
          Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have
        not seen and yet have believed.”
           30
              Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this
        book; 31but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and
        that by believing you may have life in his name.
        A O Lord, have mercy on us.
        C    Thanks be to God.

Sermon Hymn: 472 These Things Did Thomas Count as Real
      1 These things did Thomas count as 3 His reasoned certainties denied
             real: That one could live when one had
             The warmth of blood, the chill of died,
             steel, Until his fingers read like braille
             The grain of wood, the heft of stone, The markings of the spear and
             The last frail twitch of flesh and nail.

Creedal Hymn: 941 We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God
      1 We praise You and acknowledge You, O God, to be the Lord,
          The Father everlasting, by all the earth adored.
            To You all angel powers cry aloud, the heavens sing,
            The cherubim and seraphim their praises to You bring:
          “O holy, holy, holy Lord God of Sabaoth;
          Your majesty and glory fill the heavens and the earth!”
2      The band of the apostles in glory sing Your praise;
               The fellowship of prophets their deathless voices raise.
                 The martyrs of Your kingdom, a great and noble throng,
                 Sing with the holy Church throughout all the world this song:
               “O all-majestic Father, Your true and only Son,
               And Holy Spirit, Comforter—forever Three in One!”
        3 You, Christ, are King of glory, the everlasting Son,
               Yet You, with boundless love, sought to rescue ev’ryone:
                 You laid aside Your glory, were born of virgin’s womb,
                 Were crucified for us and were placed into a tomb;
               Then by Your resurrection You won for us reprieve—
               You opened heaven’s kingdom to all who would believe.
        4 You sit in splendid glory, enthroned at God’s right hand,
               Upholding earth and heaven by forces You command.
                  We know that You will come as our Judge that final day,
                  So help Your servants You have redeemed by blood, we pray;
               May we with saints be numbered where praises never end,
               In glory everlasting. Amen, O Lord, amen!

Lord’s Prayer
       C Our Father who art in heaven,

Collect of the Day
       Almighty God, grant that we who have celebrated the Lord’s resurrection may by Your grace
       confess in our life and conversation that Jesus is Lord and God; through the same Jesus
       Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and

    our own High Priest. Gather us together from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all
    the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end.
    Graciously receive our prayers, deliver and preserve us, for to You alone we give all
    glory, honor, and worship, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C   Amen.

            doings, being ordered by Your governance, may be righteous in Your sight; through

Hymn to Depart: 464 The Strife Is O’er, the Battle Done
      ref Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
        1      The strife is o’er, the battle done;
               Now is the victor’s triumph won;
               Now be the song of praise begun.
                 Alleluia!
        2 The pow’rs of death have done their worst,
               But Christ their legions hath dispersed.
               Let shouts of holy joy outburst.
                 Alleluia!
        3 The three sad days have quickly sped,
               He rises glorious from the dead.
               All glory to our risen Head!
                 Alleluia!
        4      He broke the age-bound chains of hell;
               The bars from heav’n’s high portals fell.
               Let hymns of praise His triumph tell.
                 Alleluia!
        5 Lord, by the stripes which wounded Thee,
               From death’s dread sting Thy servants free
               That we may live and sing to Thee.
                 Alleluia! Refrain
