PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Spring is right around the corner. Everyone is more than ready to spend longer hours and warmer days on the golf course or the courts. During the last twelve months, we were fortunate to have golf, racquet sports, and the pool as “approved outdoor activities”. In addition, we devised a unique outdoor casual dining option with the adaptation of the tented patio area. Over the summer and well into the fall, this option became increasingly popular. With the success of the tented patio dining, coupled with the continued uncertainty of ongoing Covid restrictions, the Board has approved the purchase of our very own food trailer. This trailer will allow us to continue to offer the ambience of a casual outdoor dining option while ensuring that we would finally be in total compliance with NC kitchen safety guidelines. Kiki Matthews The Board views the food trailer as an investment to “bridge” us over to a more permanent outdoor casual dining solution. As such, the Building & Grounds Committee has asked an initial group of Board members to lay out the preliminary design/ scope to this potential long range project. These participants are: Chuck Borman, Nathan Kennedy, Will Buie (committee chair), and Kiki Matthews. We are very excited about and look forward to the continued improvements and investments towards the enhancement of the HCC experience for each of us. PGA JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE Signups are open for our PGA Junior League. This online registration is available for children 13 years old and under. We had 38 juniors last year. You will need an access code to complete online registration. MANAGER’S MESSAGE It is almost pool season! Well, it’s a couple months away but we are already getting excited about opening the pool. We’ve been in touch with all of last year’s staff and we already know a majority of the lifeguards will be returning. We plan to open Friday, May 21. Yes, it’s true. We have purchased a FOOD TRUCK! Technically, it’s a trailer. It’s being custom made for us and it will be delivered in late April. We will park it behind the Main Clubhouse near the tent, toward the chipping green. Remember last year when we operated a temporary kitchen downstairs in the Main Clubhouse? That temporary kitchen was assembled from equipment borrowed from the Grill (which was shut down at the time). The temporary kitchen was marginally safe and definitely illegal. At the time we thought Covid was going to be a 3-4 month problem. It ended up that we really, really enjoyed using the outdoor space behind the Clubhouse Anthony Chelena and we started thinking about how to serve that area more permanently. The board has appointed a committee to work with an architect to design ideas that might serve that outdoor space on a permanent basis. The food truck is a temporary solution- maybe a year or two or three. The food truck will serve as a small, safe, temporary, sanitary and legal, tent-side kitchen until we either abandon the concept or commit to a more permanent solution. Is the idea of ordering and picking up food from a truck window unappealing to you? The Grill will also be open and ready with full service. Have you tried the Beyond Meat Burger on the menu at the Grill? I recently topped one with Swiss Cheese, Salsa Verde, and a couple strong shakes of hot sauce. Oh boy, it was tasty. Before now, I’ve never had even one vegetarian patty that I thought was satisfying, but this plant based Beyond Meat product hit the bullseye. SWIDT? Maybe it was just good because of the hot sauce and Salsa Verde! You tell me. I’ve had many recent conversations with parents of school-aged children about what the past year has been like for their families. While I appreciate that children are often more resilient than adults, I am amazed that any student could prosper socially and/or academically while attending school through a computer. We hope we have served your family in this difficult year. And we recognize that junior tennis, junior golf and the pool operation have had a greater importance in the past year. Let us know what we can do for you.
