UPDATES LOGGING: BACK UP Remember our logging industry update in the August newsletter? Log export was tumbling due to a combined negative impact: oversupply (those naughty beetles in Europe!) and a non-responsive NZ market lead to prices dropping as China could take it’s pick. The situation has started to improve though – and this article https://oilintel.co.nz/newsletters/ NZTreeGrower.pdf explains the changes in the market eloquently: PARIS In October, Reuben was invited to join the Total Lubricants Distributors Seminar 2019 in Paris. This was a two-day event organised by TOTAL HQ to thank key distributors globally for their continuous support. Oil Intel were presented an award celebrating 20 years in business also our contribution to the Asia Pacific area. The program was fully booked with site visits and meals including soup with real gold in it (poor Reuben!) One of the big features of the event was the presentation of the new retail packaging. A bulletin was released recently advising of the first lot of changes. https://oilintel.co.nz/newsletters/ PureProjectUpdate.pdf We will be launching these new retail packs in our magazine and online advertising over the coming months (more to come). STATS AND HOLIDAYS Everyone should have requested their leave for the Christmas period in Bamboo. If you haven’t, then please do this ASAP. After checking in with our manager’s that this was a good idea and something that our people would appreciate, we have decided to have our first holiday ‘closedown’. We will be officially closed two days - Friday 27th December and Friday 3rd January. This means everyone is required to take annual leave for those two days (again please add to Bamboo). What about our customers? So we can continue to service our customers if they desperately need it, one person per branch will be on call for each of those days. That person will not be required to take leave for that day (paid as normal). If they receive a call from a customer and have to go into the branch they will receive a day in lieu (extra days leave). All our customers will be notified ahead of time. The stat holidays are – 25th and 26th December and 1st and 2nd of January. Happy holidays! 3 THE SCOOP

SHARNI SPEAKS ABOUT MHAW Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) commenced on the 23rd of September, with this year’s theme as "Explore Your Way to Wellbeing". The week kicked off with a message from Reuben, we thought it was particularly important for him to talk about his experience with mental health, being our Managing Director, and someone we all go to for guidance. Reuben got out of his comfort zone (he hates being on camera) to answer questions about how he manages his mental health. He explained the stress of travelling and keeping those around him happy, and that exercising is a way for him to clear his head and get ready to tackle the day. After the gym in the morning, he finds himself ‘in a better position to face the day’. Each day of the week, we were provided with information on exploring the way to well-being. ‘Pay It Forward’ was an excellent example of getting those feel- good hormones. The Pataka Kai – Free Open Street Pantry was a great example of this. Not only does a good deed make the other person feel fantastic, but it makes you feel this way too. Winner of the MHAW was Bernie, who got up early and did a rather spiritually sounding ‘Walk into the Light’ as the sun rose (see photo). The benefits of being active was another important aspect we spoke about during MHAW. Studies show that exercise can treat mild to moderate depression, and a recent study tells us that running for 15 minutes a day, or walking for an hour, reduces the risk of major depression by 26%! (So keep smiling while climbing that mountain). 7 THE SCOOP

SPONSORSHIP SPEED ALL-ROUND It has been a whirlwind of events for our sponsor-friends, in various disciplines. Magpies Having punched one of their best seasons ever, the Hawke’s Bay Magpies made it to the final in Rotorua on the 25th October against the Bay of Plenty Steamers. The Magpies gave it their best, but the Steamers took away a 12-7 win.
