WELCOME! CAMPUS VISIT The veterinarian profession is in the throes of profound changes. In addition to the scientific knowledge that forms its basis, it also requires knowledge in marketing, finance, communication and human resources – this is what we call practice management in Royal Canin. We are therefore organising a symposium to allow colleagues from across 21 22 the world to compare their experiences, both scientific and managerial, and to share their successes. PROGRAMME The meeting will take place in Montpellier, in March 2017, and more than 570 delegates from 68 countries are expected to attend. Finally, we very much hope that you will enjoy the social aspects of this two-day meeting, and that we may share our knowledge and experience for the benefits of cats. SPEAKERS The organizing team.

In the Laboratory, you will discover several examples where nutritional precision is used to develop diets that ensure a maximal health benefits for dogs and cats. Royal Canin Research & Development is housed on our “Campus”. In our kennel & cattery, you can meet our 180 dogs of 40 breeds and 180 cats Important notices: of 20 breeds and discover why Royal Canin’s diets are so palatable. For the factory visit, you must wear flat shoes (open toed shoes and heels are not allowed), and trousers (skirts and dresses are not allowed). SPEAKERS SPEAKER FOR THE SCIENTIFIC TOPICS VINCENT BIOURGE DVM, PhD, Dip ACVN&ECVCN Dr. Biourge graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Liège University (Belgium) in 1985. He stayed on as an assistant in the nutrition department for 2 more years before moving to the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, USA) and later to the Teaching Hospital of the University of California (Davis, USA) as a PhD/resident in Clinical nutrition. In 1993, he obtained his PhD in Nutrition from the University of California and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition. In 1994, he joined the Royal Canin Research Center in Aimargues (France) as nutritionist and head of scientific communication. From 1999 to 2007, he was in charge of managing Royal Canin’s nutritional research programs. In January 2008, he was appointed Health & Nutrition Scientific Director. Vincent’s special interests include feline and canine nutrition, growth, obesity and lower urinary tract diseases. SPEAKERS SPEAKER FOR THE SCIENTIFIC TOPICS NATHALIE DOWGRAY Nathalie Dowgray graduated from Massey University, New Zealand, in 2002. Following a few years in mixed practice she moved to the UK and started working predominantly in Companion Animal Practice. Feline Medicine has always been a strong interest for Nathalie who went to work in the Feline only shelter practice for Cat Protection in 2010. During this time, she sat the Membership exams for the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Feline Medicine and subsequently become a member of the ISFM academy and a RCVS advanced Practitioner in Feline Medicine. Nathalie moved to the Royal Veterinary College in 2014 and was involved in the development of the Shelter Medicine Rotation for final year vet students. Population medicine has also always been a strong interest for Nathalie and she is now at Liverpool University doing a PhD in the health and welfare of ageing Cats and establishing a senior cat clinic for data collection on physical, metabolic and behaviour changes associated with ageing. During the last 10 years Nathalie has provided a retirement home for successive geriatric rescue cats; her current cat Max has been with her for 3 years and is now 17 years old but still going strong. SPEAKERS SPEAKER FOR THE SCIENTIFIC TOPICS REBECCA GEDDES MA VetMB GPCert(FelP) PhD MRCVS Rebecca Geddes graduated in 2007 from the Cambridge University, UK. She worked for 3 years in small animal first opinion practice, during which time she developed a passion for feline medicine, in particular geriatric feline medicine and she completed an ESVPS certificate in feline practice. In 2010, she moved to the Royal Veterinary College, London, where she completed a PhD exploring calcium-phosphate homeostasis in feline chronic kidney disease, and subsequently a small animal rotating internship. Rebecca is currently a Resident in small animal internal medicine at the Royal Veterinary College, and is due to complete the programme in 2018. SPEAKERS SPEAKER FOR THE SCIENTIFIC TOPICS ALEX GERMAN BVSc (Hons), PhD, CertSAM, DipECVIM-CA, MRCVS Alex German holds the position of Royal Canin Reader in Small Animal Medicine at the University of Liverpool. He is a 1994 graduate of Bristol University and, after spending two years in mixed practice, returned to Bristol to undertake a PhD in mucosal immunology, and then a residency in small animal internal medicine. He is a Diplo- mate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and also a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Recognised Specialist in Internal Medicine. His clinical and research interests include comparative obesity bio- logy, ageing, preventing chronic disease, gastroenterology, and evidence-based veterinary medicine. SPEAKERS SPEAKER FOR THE SCIENTIFIC TOPICS SARAH HEATH BVSc, DECAWBM(BM), CCAB, MRCVS Behavioural Productions, United Kingdom Sarah qualified from Bristol University and spent four years in mixed general practice before setting up a behavioural medicine referral practice in 1992. She is an External Lecturer in small animal behavioural medicine at Liverpool University and a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist under the ASAB accreditation scheme. In 2002, Sarah became a Founding Diplomate of the European College of Animal Welfare and Behavioural Medicine (formerly the ECVBM-CA) and served as President from 2002 to 2008. She is currently Treasurer of the College. Sarah has a special interest in the interplay between behaviour and physical illness in dogs and cats and particularly in the role of pain. Her specific feline interests include the interplay between feline stress and disease, the importance of appropriate early rearing of kittens, and the role of behavioural factors in feline obesity, lower urinary tract disease, cognitive dysfunction, and infectious disease. She lectures extensively at home and abroad on behavioural topics and is an author and co-editor of the recently published Feline Behavioral Health and Welfare book published by Elsevier. SPEAKERS SPEAKER FOR THE SCIENTIFIC TOPICS YANN QUÉAU DVM, Dip. ACVN Yann Quéau graduated from the National Veterinary School of Toulouse (France) in 2007 after completing a veterinary thesis on the effect of aging on glomerular filtration rate in dogs. Following graduation, he completed an internship in Renal Medicine and Hemodialysis, and a residency in Small Animal Clinical Nutrition at the University of California, Davis. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition in 2011, and now works at the Royal Canin Research Centre in France. SPEAKERS 21 22 CAMPUS PROGRAMME VISIT
SPEAKERS SPEAKER FOR THE SCIENTIFIC TOPICS FABIA SCARAMPELLA Fabia Scarampella graduated in 1982 from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Milan, Italy and has been a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Dermatology (ECVD) since 2000. In 2007, she obtained her Master’s degree on Evidence Based Medicine. She is the author of several articles in Italian and international journals and co-author of book chapters on small animal skin diseases. Dr. Scarampella is a former president of the Italian Society of Veterinary Dermatology (SIDEV) and works in referral practice at the StudioDermatologicoVeterinario, in Milan, Italy. Her main interests are comparative dermatology and diagnostic methods. The application of dermoscopy in Veterinary Dermatology is currently her main topic. SPEAKERS 21 22 CAMPUS PROGRAMME VISIT
SPEAKERS SPEAKER FOR THE SCIENTIFIC TOPICS MARGIE SCHERK DVM Dip ABVP (feline practice) Margie is a 1982 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College and has maintained Feline species certification by the ABVP since 1995. She is fascinated by integrative aspects of physiology, anatomy, behaviour, nutrition and well-being in cats, has published studies and guidelines and written numerous book chapters on topics concerning gastroenterology, nutrition, analgesia, vaccination, hyperthyroidism and feline environmental wellness. She co-edits the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, and has served on many organisations including as President of AAFP. SPEAKERS 21 22 CAMPUS PROGRAMME VISIT
SPEAKERS SPEAKER FOR THE PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TOPICS PHILIPPE BARALON DVM, MBA A graduate of Veterinary Medicine and Business Administration, Philippe founded his own consulting group 'Phylum' in 1990. As the founder of Vetkom, a company dedicated to educating vets and nurses on practice management, she has given lectures, seminars and workshops in over 16 countries worldwide. His company (Veterinary Management Studies, VMS) analyses economic data from more than 600 Spanish clinics and he is a founding member of the board of the Spanish veterinary practice management association (AGESVET).
