The Technological University Dublin, Blanchardstown Campus (TU Dublin), is delighted to welcome you to study at our beautiful Dublin campus for a 16-day cultural immersion in the Summer of 2019. Our International Summer School offers a range of courses taught by expert educators and industry partners providing a rich and engaging international educational experience for students. This years programme has four pathways to choose from. C M During your stay you will have time to explore vibrant Dublin City, Y a small capital with a huge reputation. Dublin has so much to CM offer, from the great outdoors and historic walking tours to its MY cobbled streets and classic pubs. CY CMY All you have to do is turn up. K Programmes & Pathways Our exciting credit bearing programmes equip students with a thorough grounding in their chosen subject. Each pathway is taught by academic and industry experts and delivered through a combination of seminars, workshops and action-based learning activities. All programmes also have a field trip allowing students experience their learning in a practical setting. There are four different programme pathways for students to choose from: Social Innovation Science Pathway Business Computing Pathway Pathway Entrepreneurship Pathway Supervision in & Business European Sales Cyber Security Community, Youth Start-up & Childcare Services
Internationally Summer School European Brochure.pdf 6 26/02/2019 00:16 Innovation Pathway: Entrepreneurship and Business Startup This pathway will expose participants to thinking like an entrepreneur, building on their capacity to identify opportunities, assess the commercial feasibility of opportunities, develop, share and communicate ideas and increase their creative confidence. They will also learn how to develop out a business concept from idea through to business plan and beyond. These creative problem solving skills will be of immense benefit to those who wish to pursue a business idea as well as those who wish to enter the workforce, equipped with all of these in-demand skills. Course participants will learn to: • Ideate and use design thinking principles to generate concepts • Identify and critically evaluate business ideas • Validate their concepts with customers, with the market and financially • Learn to develop business models and revenue models • Communicate concepts in a compelling way • Grow community, network and build a team Pathway participants will be facilitated by industry experts, entrepreneurs and a range of business professionals who will use tools, methods and action-based learning approaches to put their newly-developed innovation skills to work quickly. C M Y CM MY Business Pathway: CY CMY European Sales K This pathway will expose participants to the field of European Business, equipping students with the necessary knowledge and understanding to apply for roles in companies that do business in Europe. Areas covered include European market entry strategies, understanding the range of markets, the cultural practices, trade rules and tariff’s and the financial and regulatory requirements involved in selling into the European market. Upon successful completion of the programme participants will be able to: • Describe the regulatory and jurisdictional environments that exist in Europe • Explain the various market entry and market penetration approaches in a European context • Understand a range of influencing cultural factors that apply to selling in Europe • Demonstrate the application of intercultural skills and techniques employed when preparing a market penetration plan for a European market Pathway participants will be uniquely advantaged by the inclusion of this highly useful and relevant programme on their resumes upon programme completion. This programme is facilitated by a panel of industry experts and leading academics.
Internationally Summer School European Brochure.pdf 7 26/02/2019 00:16 Computing Pathway: Cyber Security This pathway will deliver a comprehensive introduction to Cyber Security covering the essential practice of assessing risk to business continuity posed by cyber threats and the practical application of building a strategic defensive posture to manage these risks. Areas addressed will include awareness, preparedness, resilience, standards and use of automation. This will be coupled with a hands-on application of alternative role play as a hacker and as a system defender. On successful completion of this module the participant will be able to: • Describe Cyber Security concepts, definitions, standard models and practices • Identify the cyber security threats and methodology of hackers • Design and implement best practices for protecting information assets, i.e. risk assessment and management • Describe legal requirements such as data protection and cybercrime laws Key areas to be studied include: Cyber Risk Assessment and Management, Cyber Threats and Hacker Attack Methodology and the various legal issues that impact on cyber security around the world. With a global skills shortage in the area of cyber security, this programme will prepare C participants for entry-level roles in this lucrative industry. M Y Social Science Pathway: CM Supervising People in Community, MY CY CMY Youth and Childcare Settings K This pathway will provide an overview of the various issues and challenges that arise when supervising staff in settings that are people orientated such as social care, community, youth and early childhood, in Ireland and within the European landscape. On successful completion of this programme students will be able to: • Explain the roles, responsibilities and tasks of supervisors within a people orientated setting • Understand supervision and management theory and practice in context • Demonstrate effective supervision tools and capacities learned for use in a people orientated setting • Describe and understand how conflict impacts professional practice • Use key motivational approaches to supervising staff This pathway will prepare participants for roles which require supervisory capacities and will be a useful addition to their primary qualification. Awards & Credits Students will receive 5 ECTS (European Credits) on successful completion of their course awarded by TU Dublin.

During your free time in the evenings and on Sundays you are free to explore with your new friends and sample the delights that Ireland has to offer. Accommodation for students will be provided in nearby campus accommodation in Maynooth, which is a 20 minute shuttle ride from the TU Dublin campus. The first part of your stay will be in the historic St. Patrick’s Campus in single bedroom accommodation with shared washroom facilities. For the second part of your stay you will stay in the apartment-style village within a 4 or 5 bedroom apartment and share 2 washrooms with C your flatmates. Each apartment has a furnished kitchen and living room area. Free shuttle M buses will transfer students from accommodation to their studies and activities daily. Please liaise with the International Office in your home University to see if there are funding schemes or supports available to assist with the cost. For summer 2019 TU Dublin have a €350 bursary in place for students from European Universities. International Summer School Fee €3,750 C TU Dublin Bursary €350 M Payable by Student €3,400 Y CM A deposit of €350 of the fee is required to secure your place. Once your deposit is in MY place you will receive formal registration information. The outstanding balance can be CY paid in instalments before the programme commences.
