The Kansas Promise Scholarship was created during the 2021 Kansas Legislative Session to assist students attending Kansas community colleges, technical colleges, Washburn Institute of Technology and certain private postsecondary educational institutions and enrolled in specified programs of study, generally in the fields of (1) information technology and security, (2) mental and physical health care, (3) advanced manufacturing and building Kansas Promise Scholarship—NEW SCHOLARSHIP trades, or (4) early childhood education and development. Your college also has one other eligible program area. Talk with your college about other eligible areas of study that may qualify for this scholarship. This scholarship may be used toward tuition, required fees, books, and required program materials. Your educational institution will determine the amount of your Promise Scholarship award based on information from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) along with other financial aid that you may be receiving. The Minuteman Scholarship covers full tuition and fees (uncapped) or $10,000 per year toward room and board at any college or university served by an Army (ROTC) program. Scholarship recipients also receive a yearly book allowance of $1,200 and a monthly stipend of $420 while attending school enrolled in the ROTC program. Minuteman Scholarship recipients must serve in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP), in which they participate in an Army Reserve unit’s monthly drills and a 14-day annual training for which they are paid as a E-5/Sergeant. After graduation and commissioning, Minuteman Scholarship recipients are guaranteed placement in the Army Reserve. As the largest single source of Navy and Marine Corps officers, the Navy ROTC Scholarship Program plays an important role in preparing mature young men and women for leadership and management positions in an increasingly technical Navy and Marine Corps. Selected applicants for the Navy ROTC Scholarship Program are awarded scholarships through a highly competitive national selection process, and receive full tuition, books stipend, educational fees and other financial benefits at many of the country's leading colleges and universities. Upon graduation, midshipmen are commissioned as officers in the unrestricted line Naval Reserve or Marine Corps Reserve. Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps The Navy ROTC Scholarship Program is available to qualified students who graduate from high school before August 1 of the year they intend to start college. Students selected for the Navy ROTC Scholarship Program make their own arrangements for college enrollment and room and board, and take the normal course load required by the college or university for degree completion. Additionally, scholarship midshipmen are required to follow specific academic guidelines. One hundred scholarships of $4,000 each are available to encourage students who seek competence through career and technical education (1 or 2-year programs) at the following schools in Northwest Kansas: North Central Kansas Technical College (Beloit and Hays), Colby Community College, Northwest Kansas Technical College, Academy of Hair Design (Hays and Salina), Cloud County Community College, Salina Area Technical College, Fort Hays State University (2-year program), or Kansas State Polytechnic (2-year program). The Career and Technical Education Scholarships carry a stipend of $4,000 and are renewable for one additional year, providing the recipient has achieved at least a 3.00 GPA at the college level. With one renewal, the scholarship will be $8,000 over the two-year period. Students seeking a 4-year degree are not eligible. Students may obtain application forms from high school principals or counselors. These forms must be completed and received by the Foundation office by October 22, 2021. Opportunities NCK Tech’s Commercial Driver License (CDL) program utilizes state-of-the-art simulation training, classroom instruction and on-the-road driving time to prepare students for the Department of Motor Vehicles Commercial Driver’s License Examination. Coursework prepares students for all three license classes (A, B and C), as well as endorsement Ongoing Dates NCK Tech CDL Classes - Hays Campus for tanks, doubles and triples, hazardous materials and passenger and school buses. The program also provides tax advantages under both state and federal law. The Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) is an interstate initiative established by the Midwestern Higher Education Commission (MHEC) to increase interstate educational opportunities for students in its members states. This tuition discount program, includes the nine participating states of Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Midwest Exchange Program Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin. The Midwest Student Exchange Program seeks to provide more affordable educational opportunities for students to attend out-of-state institutions. It also strives to facilitate enrollment efficiency in those institutions which have excess capacity in existing programs.
