ACSS Totem News June 25, 2020 Dream, Believe, Achieve Please visit our website www.acsstotems.ca for more information. Stay Safe! Stay Healthy! Dear Students and Families: As another year comes to a close, I reflect on what a year it has been. In many ways it was another fantastic year! Amidst the global pandemic, and as we’ve adapted to our “new reality,” I have been so impressed with our staff, students and families; the resilience, grit, compassion, care and community building that I’ve seen is nothing short of inspiring. Especially throughout the last couple of months we have seen the ACSS community come together to celebrate learning, build community and celebrate the many successes of our students, even if we had to do it in unique and different ways. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank the students, staff, parents and community members who have helped to make ACSS a fabulous place to work and learn together. THANK YOU! As we say goodbye to the end of another school year, we also say goodbye to some of our staff members. As many of you already know, we have several staff members who are moving on to other opportunities: Ms. Alison Anania – Hairdressing Train in Trades Teacher Ms. Kyla Bartley – Learning Support Services, SEA Ms. Eva Choi – International Student Program, EA Mr. Brock Foerster – Social Studies / English, Teacher Ms. Debbie French – Learning Support Services, SEA Ms. Brenda Gough – Languages, Teacher Ms. Alicia Kear – Home Economics, Teacher Ms. Julia Lichti – Learning Support Services, Teacher Mr. Jason Malo – Vice Principal Ms. Kari Poole – Learning Support Services, Child & Youth Care Worker Ms. Vera Sutton – English, Teacher Ms. Stefanie Yuzdepski – Learning Support Services, Teacher Thank you to all of you for your dedication to students and your commitment to ACSS. We wish you well on your next adventure! Looking forward to next year, we are looking to hire several new staff members. We have already added some and will continue to add more throughout the summer. We will make more staffing announcements as we fill positions in August and early September. On a personal note, I couldn’t be more proud of ACSS and our school community. The way our students, staff and community come together to support and celebrate our students and our school is second to none! I am extremely fortunate and proud to be the Principal of our school and I am excited about what the future holds for our students and our community. Enjoy a restful and safe summer; and we will see you in September! Sincerely, J. Lyndon Proud Principal Aldergrove Community Secondary School ACSS Office Summer Hours 9:00 am—2:00 pm 26850—29th Avenue, Aldergrove, BC V4W 3C1 Phone: 604-856-2521 Fax: 604-856-9648

Student Post-Secondary Institution (PSI) Selections – July 10 To support their PSI admissions, Grade 12 and adult students are encouraged to visit the StudentTranscripts Service before July 10, 2020 to authorize release of their transcript data to their PSI selections. The Ministry of Education distributes transcript information to post-secondary institutions (PSIs) following the student’s selections on that website. For Students: StudentTranscripts Service Students can access the StudentTranscripts Service at: www.studenttranscripts.gov.bc.ca/. To get started, they must first create a Basic BCeID account to access their transcript information. Help videos, including “Registering for a BCeID and Accessing the StudentTranscripts Service” and “How to order/send a transcript to a Post–Secondary Institution,” are available on the website along with other help documentation. Students need only complete their PSI selections once in the current school year but may add to their selections at any time up to July 10, 2020. Students may make up to 25 selections free of charge within six months after completing their last course. After six months, students will be charged $10 per transcript on the StudentTranscripts Service. Distribution of Transcripts PSIs receive student transcripts through a variety of methods including XML data transfer, electronic batch files, printed transcripts by mail and more. PSIs with the new XML data transfer capability* receive transcript information throughout the year. For PSIs on the electronic batch process, interim transcript information was sent by the Ministry in early May, and final year-end transcript information will be distributed in late July. Unless the student needs to send their printed transcript now, the student should leave the default option to allow the PSI to accept transcript information as it becomes available. XML Transcript Information PSI Student Selection Deadline: Any time year round Student selects “Send my transcript now and allow this Post Secondary Institution to request transcript updates until the date specified” (the default), and transcript information is then available to the PSI throughout the year PSIs are able to request updates to interim marks and final marks as required PSIs will then have 12 months after authorization to request updated transcripts (Note: If the student selects “Send my printed transcript electronically now,” the PSI will not be able to receive updates to transcript information made through the year) *Currently available for students selecting any of the following PSIs: Dogwood Diplomas (Graduation Diplomas) The official Dogwood Diplomas from the Ministry of Education will be available from the main office at the end of October, 2020. Students are asked to come to the ACSS office to pick them up after that time.

MESSAGE FROM COUNSELLING Counselling support for students continues to be available with Mr. Silzer (A-L) and Mr. Orchard (M-Z) throughout this time of change in our school. However, the way we connect with students has to be adapted. We will now be using an online booking system (directions to follow), which will enable students to register and book a time with the counsellors. At this stage, we will only be talking with students by phone. We look forward to connecting with our students who may need to access our services. Students must create an account in order to access this schedule. https://acss.counsellorappointments.com/ Registration Click on the “Register” tab and fill in the registration form to create an account. Once students have successfully registered, they can log into the system and register by name. If you need further help with booking an appointment, please contact the school at 604-856-2521.
