SCHOLARSHIPS (February 2023 - Updated) FEBRUARY Deadlines Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan Sponsor: Community Foundation Amount: Multiple Awards - Various Closing Date: February 15, 2023 – Deadline to Register for Portal Description: One application for numerous scholarships. Beginning November 15th, students can register in the scholarship portal and apply to any scholarship for which they are eligible. The deadline to register for the scholarship portal is February 15, 2023 and deadline for application is March 15, 2023. Contact the Program Officer at the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, at scholarships@cfsem.org with questions. Apply at: https://cfsem.org/scholarships/ Detroit Economic Club Scholarship Sponsor: Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan Amount: Two renewable awards: $2,000 Closing Date: February 15, 2023 to access the application; March 15, 2023 to apply A $2,000, renewable, scholarship will be awarded to a qualified student from Detroit, Macomb, Oakland and/or Wayne counties who will be entering college as a freshman in the fall. Special consideration will be given to students who have overcome specific hardships to achieve their personal and educational goals. Student must demonstrate financial need by completion of the FAFSA (www.fafsa.gov) Apply at: https://cfsem.org/scholarships/scholarship-opportunities/ Miguel Cabrera Family Scholarship Fund Sponsor: Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan Amount: $1,000 Closing Date: February 15, 2023 to access the application; March 15, 2023 to apply Description: A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a qualified student from Detroit, Macomb, Oakland and/or Wayne counties who will be entering college as a freshman in the fall. Eligible candidates will be in good academic standing (2.5 or above) and be full first-generation college students (“first generation” meaning that student and/or their siblings are the first in their family line that will attend, or with respect to a sibling, have graduated from a university) or are from historically underrepresented student populations. Apply at: https://cfsem.org/scholarships/scholarship-opportunities/ MEA Scholarship Sponsor: Michigan Education Association (MEA) Amount: Variable Closing Date: February 16, 2023 Description: Several scholarships will be awarded to young men and women that are a dependent of MEA member or MEA-Retired member in good standing and a graduate of a Michigan public high school or private high school that has an MEA bargaining unit. Student must have plans to attend an undergraduate program of a Michigan public community/junior college, four-year degree-granting institution, or vocational training institution that grants a degree, certification or license. Those attending the following private institutions ONLY are also eligible: Baker College-Flint/Owosso; University of Detroit–Mercy; Adrian College; Finlandia University; and Albion College. (The aforementioned private institutions are existing local MEA affiliates.) Priority is given on the basis of: Academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, school and community service, and students from lower income households. (NEW/LOCAL) Community Choice Foundation Scholarship for Graduating Seniors Sponsor: Community Choice Foundation Amount: Fifteen $5,000 awards Closing Date: February 28, 2023 @ 5:00 PM Description: Community Choice Foundation believes that learning is a life-long process and are proud to offer 15 scholarships to students who have the desire to attend college in Michigan. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, have a strong record of Giving Big to the community through volunteerism or public service, must be accepted at a two- or four-year Michigan college or university and have a desire to live and work in Michigan after attaining a college degree. Closing Date: March 1, 2023 Description: This scholarship is available to a current part-time or full-time Meijer Team Member with an employment start date prior to March 1, 2019 and/or a dependent child of a former Meijer Team Member whose employment was terminated due to death, retirement or permanent disability. Student must be attending a college, university or technical school full time in the fall 2023. Student can apply for no more that two scholarships listed on application with each scholarship having their own separate requirements. Student must be a graduating HS senior with a 2.5 GPA or higher, reside in Shelby Twp. and attend public school. Donovan graduated from Benjamin O. Davis Aerospace & Technical High School, attended Henry Ford Community College, and was attending Ohio Technical College as a full time student and only had 9 months to completion of his education as an Automotive Technician when his life was cut short. The committee receives the applications and each application is reviewed on many facets including Community Service, Academic Achievement, Financial Needs.
