AFTER SCHOOL HOURS ON CCU CAMPUS
Please be reminded, no SA student is allowed to stay on the CCU
campus after 3:00 without Administration approval. Students must
have written parent permission (an email is fine) to stay on campus
that has been approved before the end of the school day (2:15).
For attendance at performances or cultural events, please make
sure these are done in plenty of time for us to receive clearance for
students to attend. If you have questions, please contact Mr.
McQueen. You may refer to the SA Student Guide for Success for
more details.
MORNING DROP OFF
Parents are asked to not do U Turns from the drop-off line in the
mornings. Cars should proceed to the stop sign, take a left and go to the
red light. This is causing traffic issues and CCU Public Safety will begin
monitoring next week.

Juniors and Seniors are reminded there is paperwork to fill out if
you plan to take a college visit and have the absence excused.
Juniors may have 1 excused day and Seniors are allowed 2. More
information is located in the Guidance Section of our website.

STEM SIGNING DAY
South Carolina STEM Signing Day celebrates high school seniors who
choose to pursue STEM related careers at technical programs, two-
and four-year colleges, and universities. All high school seniors from
South Carolina who plan to attend a two-year or four-year college or
university and pursue a STEM related degree or program are eligible
to apply via Tallo. Click here to watch a video going over the exact
application process.
What's in it for students? Well, all 2022 STEM Signing Day Honorees
will be invited to join the Boeing Mentorship Program -- an exclusive
mentorship program powered by the Tallo Community that pairs students
with Boeing professionals from all over the country to support them as they
enter their first year of college. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity! Don't

LOCKHEED MARTIN CODE QUEST
Each year, Lockheed Martin hosts Code Quest, an annual computer programming competition
where teams of two to three high school students work together to solve problems by using JAVA,
Python, C#, and/or C++ programming to complete the “quest.” The problem set consists of 20 to
30 challenging problems created by Lockheed Martin engineers and computer programmers.
The Lockheed Martin Code Quest® Competition will be held virtually in 2022. For Code Quest
2021, 15 combined Lockheed Martin locations around the world virtually hosted more than 1,800
students. We’re looking forward to an even bigger event in 2022!

15th Annual Race for the Inlet
The 15th Annual Race for the Inlet will begin at Morse Park Landing. The race will
be a 5K Fun Run. Both runners and walkers of all ages are encouraged to
participate. The Race for the Inlet is a family-friendly staple for the Inlet. Visitors
and locals alike enjoy the scenery and comradery all why supporting our local
Community. Registration is now open and includes entry into the race with a
chipped bib, a swag bag full of goodies from our sponsors, an official race t-shirt,
and breakfast provided by Campbell Catering Company. An awards ceremony will
follow the event at Morse Park. Proceeds from the event benefit Murrells Inlet
2020, a community revitalization organization focused on the conservation of our
natural environment while fostering local community and commerce.

Spring Tide 2022: A Day for the Inlet. Join us in doing your part to help us clean-up
the Inlet! The 30th Annual Spring Tide Community Clean-Up is scheduled for
Sunday, May 1st, 2022 at 10AM at Morse Park! Clean up then chowder down. All
volunteers will be treated to free BBQ and chowder following! #Lovewhereyoulive

HCHEC SCHOLARSHIP
Please see the note below regarding Horry County Higher Education
Commission Scholarships for students who have been accepted and
are planning to attend CCU in the fall. These scholarships are
important opportunities for our future Chanticleers, and it is
imperative that they know how to apply. As students confirm their
decisions, please make sure that those who are committing to CCU
know about these scholarships and take the time to apply.

Waccamaw Community Foundation offers
students many different scholarship opportunities.
When completing the 2021 Scholarship Program
application, students are asked to indicate each
program for which they are eligible and wish to be
considered. Read below for full criteria to apply for
different scholarships at WCF and links to
scholarship applications. All applications must besubmitted by 3:00 PM on Friday, April 29,
2022.
• The applications will be open from March 4 to April 29,
2022.
• Recipients will be notified toward the end of May 2022.

The Edsel J. “Coupe” DeVille Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created by the Surfside Area
Rotary Club in honor of Edsel J. “Coupe” DeVille, a
retired Air Force Colonel and the co-founder of
Right Flight, an organization that inspired high
school students to become future pilots, engineers,
and soldiers in the military. Through his work with
Right Flight and the Rotary Club, DeVille’s mission
was to change lives through the access of
education.
Criteria
• Applicants must be graduating seniors from St. James High
School or Socastee High School. Horry County students
who have family who are members of Surfside Area Rotary
Club are also eligible to apply.• Students should have demonstrated involvement in extra-
curriculars or community activities and financial need.
• This scholarship is not necessarily for “A” students, as
academic performance is evaluated on an individual basis
in relationship with the student’s full application.
John M. Draughn and Trena B. Draughn Scholarship
This scholarship, in an amount up to $2,000, is
awarded to a North Myrtle Beach High School
Senior who maintains high moral principles, is
trustworthy, and exhibits leadership qualities.
Applicants should contact their Guidance
Counselor with any questions pertaining to the
scholarship process.
Criteria
• Applicant must be accepted and attend either Coastal
Carolina University (CCU) or Horry Georgetown Technical
College (HGTC).
• A GPA above 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale is required.
• Applicant must show financial need.
• An essay of 200 words or less is required telling why you
feel you should receive the scholarship.
• An official transcript must be included.
• Major in a business related field of study.
• Preference is given to students with some work history in the
past two years.
• Nominations must be received through the guidance
department at the applicant’s high school.
Sue’s Hope Scholarship
This is an annual scholarship in the amount of
$1,000.00 to be awarded to a North Myrtle BeachHigh School or North Myrtle Beach Christian
Academy Senior.
Criteria
• Submit an essay, “Vision For My Future Education,” of no
more than 500 words. Student essay should demonstrate:
o A sense of “hope” despite obstacles in student’s life,
examples of challenges or obstacles student has
overcome, and how student is trying to (or has
already achieved) turning his or her life around.
o His or her potential, and his or her desire to succeed.
• School transcript with GPA of 2.5 or higher, on a 4.0
scale. (Note: This scholarship is not intended for the top
performing academic student, but rather for the student
who would be “left behind” because of finances, for not
being the top performing academic student, or for some
other obstacle.)
• Community service record from teacher in charge of all
community service hours for graduating students.
• Official record of clubs, organizations, and individual
achievements.
• Nominations must be received through the North Myrtle
Beach High School Guidance Department or through the
North Myrtle Beach Christian Academy Guidance
Department.
Thomas W. Jones Memorial Scholarship
This renewable scholarship is to be awarded to a
graduating high school senior or current student at
the University of South Carolina’s School of
Engineering.
Criteria
• Applicant must attend the University of South Carolina
enrolled in the School of Engineering.• A GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale is required.
• Applicant must have ties to either Georgetown or Horry
County.
GFOASC SCHOLARSHIP
The Government Finance Officers Association of SC (GFOASC)offers a
scholarship every year to high school students.
The Presidents Scholarship is a $750 scholarship available to high school
students that meet the following criteria:
• be a resident of South Carolina,
• be a high school senior,
• attending a South Carolina technical college or university working
towards a certificate, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree in
Accounting, Finance, or Business related field,
• have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

We are pleased to provide you with the application for your students to participate in this
summer’s AHEC Health Careers camp. This is a 1-week, non-residential, regional, live and virtual
hybrid program for rising 9th graders through graduated high school seniors. The summer
program will provide students with professional soft skills, educational planning, clinical career
knowledge, and shadowing opportunities.
The attachment is in PDF format, and contains a live link to the application (Google Forms). Please

etc.) or share via email with students and parents. All students are encouraged to apply.

It is our great pleasure to invite you and your students to the 2022 Texas A&M Physics
and Engineering Festival! This year, the festival will be offered both in-person AND
virtually — which means students from all across the country can attend! We are planning
a live-streamed event starting at 9:30 AM CST showcasing exciting, interactive science
demonstrations, talks by prominent scientists, and, of course, Q&A. We believe this
festival will help engage your students in the classroom by entertaining them with science
learning outside of it. On top of that, it’s free! The Festival will be April 2, 2022. More
updates will be posted on the Festival website at physicsfestival.tamu.edu and on social
media.
We expect several thousand people from all over the US to join us. Dozens of interactive
science exhibits for scientists of all ages will be run by our faculty and students and
streamed online with your students, who are encouraged to participate in Q&A. Some of
these demonstrations can be previewed on the Festival webpage and here at Real
Physics Live. Your students are welcome to submit questions about these demonstrations
and to the speakers in advance, and the best questions, announced with your school
name, will be live-streamed. Additionally, students can enter for a chance to win a box of
science goodies, and teachers and school administrators can enter to win goodies in a
giveaway exclusively for schools!
The 2022 Physics and Engineering Festival will feature public talks by popular science
writer and award-winning author Richard Panek, and professor of astronomy and winner
of the 2004 Carl Sagan Prize for Science Popularization Alex Filippenko. We’ll also have a
Texas-sized depth charge with five barrels and 1,000 plastic balls! Here is a promotional
video you can share with your students and their families.
