There is no status quo. Every day we shake it up. Make things better. Best part of that kind of culture? It benefits our co-workers and our clients. Every morning as the sun rises over buildings we’re proud to have built, we raise the bar and start again.
Welcome to Dear Friends: Finally! After all the hardships of the last few years, I’m delighted to welcome you to our celebration of life’s joyful moments. Those moments seem even more precious this evening, don’t they? On behalf of our amazing team at Atrium Medical Center, thank you for your remarkably generous outpouring of support for our patients and staff during our relentless COVID-19 battle. Without you, our jobs would be so much harder. Your presence tonight helps make our gala our biggest fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit the Joy of Movement campaign to enhance orthopedic services at Atrium, including new technologies, equipment, and services for orthopedic and spine surgery, as well as for rehabilitation after surgery or injury. Thanks in part to years of support from generous donors like you, Atrium continues to win recognition from leading national organizations for our laser focus on high quality care. For 2021-22, U.S. News & World Report named us among its Best Hospitals – Rehabilitation and High Performing Hospitals for heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, and maternity. We earned additional accolades from Healthgrades, Healogics, Anthem, and Chime Digital Health. I’m proud that Atrium continues to excel in bringing advanced care to our patients, close to home. It’s an honor to be with you tonight. Enjoy! Gratefully, Keith D. Bricking, MD President, Atrium Medical Center Joie De Vivre 2022 Gala 1
It’s Time to Celebrate! Who could have predicted a delay of two years for our gala – or the many challenges we have all faced during the pandemic? That’s why I’m especially excited to welcome you to Joie de Vivre, an evening to celebrate life’s joyful moments. It’s only fitting that we come together to honor all of the effort and sacrifices we’ve made – and to rejoice that we’ve come this far. Who doesn’t know someone who suffers from bone, joint, or muscle pain? Luckily for us, Atrium Medical Center offers outstanding orthopedic care to help patients regain function and keep moving. Funds raised this evening will benefit the Joy of Movement campaign to ensure that Atrium stays on the leading edge of orthopedic and spine care. We’ll also recognize some long-time supporters for their leadership and dedication: Dr. Raymond Kiefhaber, physician hero, and Dr. Bruce and Neila Barnes, community heroes. I’m proud to call them my friends. Producing an event like this requires a creative, committed team. I extend a heartfelt thank you to our long-serving steering committee that planned every detail and to everyone who worked with them. This hospital has been an integral part of my life since I started volunteering as a teenager. My late husband, Bob, also was committed to its growth and excellence. Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand the difference that your generosity can make for patients and families. Thank you for supporting Atrium Medical Center Foundation with your presence tonight. Sincerely, Patricia Miller Gage, Gala Chair

PHYSICIAN HERO Raymond Kiefhaber, MD Dr. Raymond Kiefhaber, known to family and friends as “Senator,” is Atrium Medical Center Foundation’s physician hero. He not only witnessed much of the hospital’s growth firsthand, he also helped make it happen. A pioneering orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Kiefhaber practiced in Middletown from 1960 until his retirement in 2010. Over the years, he worked alongside five hospital presidents. He was a trustee on the board of Middletown Regional Hospital for 27 years and served as chief of staff from 1971 to 1973. He and Jean Anne, his wife of more than 60 years, were ardent supporters of the new Atrium Medical Center campus. Dr. Kiefhaber was among a group of Middletown leaders who in 1984 established Atrium Medical Center Foundation. He currently serves on the Foundation board, as he has done a number of times in the past. 4 Atrium Medical Center
COMMUNITY HEROES Dr. Bruce and Neila Barnes Atrium Medical Center Foundation’s community heroes, Dr. Bruce and Neila Barnes, have lived in the Middletown area for more than 60 years. Both Dr. and Mrs. Barnes have made their mark on the hospital and the Foundation. Mrs. Barnes’ volunteer work includes chairing the Middletown Area Federation of Women’s Clubs’ Charity Ball in 1978 and serving on the Foundation’s gala committee since the first event in 2007. Dr. Barnes is a long-time member of the Middletown Fine Arts Center board, where he garnered two service awards. He also served as president of the Butler County Dental Society. In 2003, the Foundation’s board of directors asked Dr. and Mrs. Barnes to co-chair a new initiative called the Heritage Society, composed of supporters who include Atrium Medical Center Foundation in their estate plans. A two-year term turned into more than 16 years. Under their stewardship, the Heritage Society has grown to more than 100 members. Joie De Vivre 2022 Gala 5
The Joy of Movement THE CAMPAIGN FOR ORTHOPEDIC CARE AT ATRIUM Being mobile and pain free is a great blessing – one that means even more if you’ve suffered debilitating bone and joint pain. Injuries from athletic pursuits, physically demanding work, house and yard chores – not to mention the inevitable wear and tear of aging – mean few of us escape some level of bone, muscle, and joint pain. Regaining the precious movement of an active life is at the heart of the Joy of Movement fundraising campaign. Proceeds from tonight’s event support enhanced orthopedic care at Atrium Medical Center. Our surgeons deliver top-quality care every day, including joint replacements and other orthopedic and spine procedures, close to home. The surgical and therapy teams do everything they can to relieve pain and get patients back to the lives they love. However, we can greatly enhance that experience for our patients with your help through the Joy of Movement campaign. 6 Atrium Medical Center Foundation
Here’s what donor support through the campaign can make possible: • New surgical technology so patients continue to benefit from advanced surgical techniques that can improve outcomes. • New rehabilitation equipment for inpatients and outpatients to rehabilitate with less pain, improve balance, build strength and endurance, and more quickly restore quality of life after surgery or an injury. • Endowments for advanced orthopedic and surgical care now and into the future. The income endowments generate guarantees that donors can influence the course of care for years to come. • Assistance for patients in need. To regain strength and mobility, patients must follow through on care after they leave the hospital. When patients can’t afford prescriptions, medical equipment, or transportation to medical visits, Atrium social workers will have funds available to help. Our campaign goal is $500,000, with a stretch goal of $750,000 to $1 million. On behalf of the patients whose lives you will help to change, thank you for your support this evening. Joie De Vivre 2022 Gala 7
Magnifying the Power of Kindness Atrium Medical Center Foundation welcomes you to our fifth joyful gala. Since 1984, we’ve been magnifying the power of kindness as we fulfill our mission of building healthier communities. Our first event in 2007 celebrated the opening of Atrium Medical Center on our new campus. However, Southwest Ohio residents have counted on our hospital for outstanding care, close to home, since 1917, when Middletown Hospital was founded. For more than a century, our hospital has evolved and expanded to stay on the leading edge of care. Since the beginning, donors have given generously Thomas P. Farrell so patients and families receive the care and support they need. As a nonprofit hospital, Atrium relies on financial support from the Foundation to bridge the gap between hospital revenue and our community’s needs. Your tax-deductible gifts stay local, funding lifesaving new technology, facilities, and services for you, your family, and friends. Your partnership allows us to provide excellent care now and well into the future, through endowments and planned gifts. Michael D. Stautberg 8 Atrium Medical Center
