Santa Fe Springs General Plan Update Community Workshop #3 Summary Date and Time: March 31, 2021; 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Welcome The City of Santa Fe Springs hosted a digital community workshop on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, using Zoom video conferencing. The workshop focused on two General Plan topics: Environmental Justice and Housing. An interpreter was available for Spanish-speaking participants. Participants who participated in the workshop were entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of ten gift cards to local restaurants and retail stores in the City. Approximately 48 participants attended the workshop, including City staff and consultants. Laura Stetson and Jose Rodriguez of MIG facilitated the meeting. Discussion notes are included in Appendix A. The PowerPoint Presentation is included in Appendix B. Presentation and Discussion The meeting began with opening remarks from Wayne Morrell, Director of Planning. The presentation then shifted over to Jose Rodriguez, from MIG, who welcomed participants to the meeting and led introductions. After introductions, Mr. Rodriguez began the presentation by providing an overview of the General Plan update and the overall significance of the Housing and Environmental Justice Elements. The first section of the presentation covered Environmental Justice and Community Needs. The second section of the presentation focused on the Housing Element Update. For Environmental Justice, Mr. Rodriguez identified the disadvantaged communities within the City, providing data and maps reflecting pollution burdens and socio- economic conditions. The presentation, through a series of interactive polling, provided opportunities for participants to prioritize strategies to address community needs, including approaches to minimize pollution burdens, increase walking and Re-Imagine Santa Fe Springs General Plan and Targeted Zoning Code Update Community Workshop #3: Summary Page 1
biking, healthy food access, increase access to parks and active living, community services more community engagement, and expand housing options. The second part of the presentation focused on the Housing Element. Ms. Stetson discussed the Regional Housing Needs Assessment and how the City could accommodate new housing units. She also talked about how different residential densities could be assigned to different affordability levels and where new housing can be built through the proposed Draft Land Use Plan. See the results of the interactive polling on the following pages. 1. What pollution issues concern you the most?/ ¿Qué problemas de contaminación le preocupan más?
