The wide range of races and Mayor of Annecy Mayor of Annecy-le-Vieux Deputy Mayor for Sports activities scheduled throughout the weekend will bring together runners of all levels to enjoy an extraordinary trail running experience in a breathtaking natural environment. Our goal: to amaze you before, during, after the race, and as a "finisher"! At Salomon, our mission is to grow the sport of trail running all across the planet. For each local community, we work to encourage participation in trail running and offer "educational" programs to introduce people to the sport and proper trail-running technique. Our partnerships with local trail-running events represent a key component of an approach that educates as much as it promotes. As a result, we have a lot of staff that participates in local races. During the workweek, they are the first to contribute to developing our latest innovations. Of course, at the MaXi-Race, several of them have volunteered to provide you with the best service possible; the Salomon family in action in one of its many favorite playgrounds. Hello, Jean-Marc Pambet - CEO of Salomon Welcome to a MaXi weekend of outdoor sports with beautiful Lake Annecy as the centerpiece. You are among the 8500 athletes and 50 nationalities registered this year to participate in one of many outdoor activities: trail running, the kids’ race, orienteering, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, pirogue racing, and dragon boating. The organizing team and our partners are proud to welcome you. Our goal, 100% participant satisfaction this weekend In 2017, between 85% and 95% of participants were satisfied with their experience. Over the last 10 months, our goal to reach 100% participant satisfaction has been a source of motivation for the Salomon Gore-Tex MaXi-Race organizing team, for Kayakers Without Borders, for the Annecy Orienteering Club, for all of the cities and towns around Lake Annecy, as well for all of our partners, Laurent BLONDEEL Stéphane AGNOLI even if we understand that every individual’s idea of excellence can be very subjective. We continue to innovate. For certain aid stations, we have invested in several new information signs to better guide you (see page 31), we have established new programs for those who prefer public transportation - like taking the train (less CO2 emissions), and with help from Entrepôt du Bricolage (a local hardware store), we have set up a worn-out shoe recycling program. Thanks to Salomon’s involvement, for each pair of worn-out shoes you turn in, Salomon will reward your gesture with a discount voucher. We have many other programs in store for you this weekend. For your safety and to reduce traffic this year, we have set up an overpass to cross the road right before the very last kilometer of the race. As you know, Salomon, alongside Gore-Tex, became the MaXi-Race’s main partner to create the Salomon Gore-Tex MaXi-Race in 2017. In 2018, the dynamic world-renowned brand from Annecy, inspired by CEO Jean-Marc Pambet and his colleagues, continues to move forward to allow us to organize a high-quality event just for you. Since 2017, we have also been working closely with Bauges Mountains Natural Regional Park to allow you to explore the well-preserved and protected natural mountain environment surrounding Lake Annecy, where more than 50% of the race course runs for the MaXi-Race, XL-Race, and R-Race, as well as 80% for the Ultra-Race and XXL-Race. We are excited to be able to provide you with the means to explore this incredible slice of the great outdoors from the shores of the lake to the surrounding mountain tops. The Natural Regional Park you will run through figures among UNESCO’s registered sites, and is home to a sensitive natural ecosystem. The trails the course uses, the start and cutoff times, and the signage have all been carefully studied to limit the race’s impact. Respecting this key provision allowed us from the outset to create the event you now know. As the Mayor highlights, at the Salomon Gore-Tex MaXi-Race, 10 local non-profit clubs and organizations will be working alongside MaXi-Events to ensure that the event meets your expectations. These are not just sports-oriented organizations. "Our Children’s Primary School," for example, works in certain third-world countries to provide girls with an elementary and junior high school education. We also work with local running clubs like "Courrir à Poisy," who will organize on November 17, as part of the the Grenouilles Trail Run, a MaXi-Night race (42km at night as a 2-person team) in addition to the traditional 17km, 10km, and children’s races.. I, alongside Laurent BLONDEEL, co-director of the race, and the 500 people who are an integral part of the organizing team, would like to wish you a truly fantastic weekend. 2 Stéphane AGNOLI - Race Director 3

So, ready to give it a go? About the organizers: The 5 km SHORTY - a fun, technical course The key is to combine endurance, strategy, and technical prowess! Kayak Sans Frontières is a non-profit organization created in 2005, made up mostly of young kayakers. In 2007, the mayor of M’Bao, a fishing village south of Dakar, contacted them to ask for help with his project to clean up the Marigot River, a body of water that serves as the "lifeblood" of the village. The M’Bao project was born. Its goals are: • to clean up and reforrest the banks of the Marigot, a river that runs through the center of the village, and serves as the "lifeblood" of M’Bao, • to raise awareness about environmental conservation in the local community to ensure its sustainability, • to develop M’Bao’s water sports club. They then went to work. Right from the start, with the input from Kayak Sans Frontières members, locals set up their own initiatives to clean up the banks of the Marigot. Today, thanks to everyone’s involvement, local fishermen have started fishing again, and local farmers have started growing crops along the banks upriver. The Marigot in 2014 To celebrate their hard work, 3 international Dragon Boat festivals have been organized in M’Bao, to bring people together through this team sport. The next "Dragon Boat Without Borders" festival will take place in 2018 in M’Bao. The funds raised from the MaXi-Lake will ensure the project’s longterm viability. 10 11
MaXi-Orientation Saturday, May 26, Mt. Semnoz About Annecy Sports Orientation Annecy Sports Orientation is the local orienteering club for Annecy and the surrounding area. It was created 30 years ago as, "an athletic club for all ages and all levels, working together to promote the sport of orienteering, in a friendly and collegial atmosphere." We have 74 members (2017). We practice every Wednesday evening at 18.00, at a variety of locations near Annecy. Every practice is open to anyone who wants to discover and learn more about the amazing sport of orienteering. We organize an orienteering camp for youth ages 10 to 14 on Wednesday afternoons from 14.00 to 16.00. This camp is for the club’s youth as well as other kids who would like to learn orienteering through Annecy’s AESA sports clubs. In 2017, the club performed extremely well in competition: placing 4th at the French National Championships (Division 1), as well as several titles and podium finishes at the European Championships for 3 kids in the club, Cécile, Alina, and Antoine. We also organize 5 "O’Lac d’Annecy" (Lake Annecy Orienteering) events every year to introduce orienteering to more people.
