 Tue, 29 June Annual Review of 2020 Cases on Legal Profession

                2020 was a bumper year for cases involving the legal profession. Some highlights include:
                  the Court of Appeal's seminal decision in Iskandar, which set out, for the first time, a
                      comprehensive overview of the disciplinary framework, and overturned its previous
                      decision as to whether there was a right of appeal against the High Court's review of
                      Inquiry Committee and Disciplinary Tribunal proceedings;
                  the case involving the will of the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, which led to the suspension of
                      a very senior practitioner;
                  2 separate cases involving the disclosure of information to the media, which led to
                      penalties being imposed on the practitioners who had communicated with the media;
                  the first reported case setting out a procedure for handling legally privileged material
                      seized by the police or investigating authorities; and
                  an application for an injunction against a law firm acting in a suit, when the same law
                      firm had previously acted in a different suit but against the same parties, and had been
                      involved in negotiations that led to the prior suit being settled.
                  Our speaker and panellists will discuss these cases, and the potential pitfalls for unwary
                      practitioners. The focus will be less on the technical rules, and more on practical
                      takeaways for all practitioners.
                 This webinar is particularly suited for the busy practitioner who would appreciate bite-sized
                 insights into the latest developments involving the legal profession, and the resulting dos
                 and don'ts.
