Scenario
Big investments has been made to improve the logistics ecosystem in the Northern
Italy: Gottardo Tunnel, Terzo Valico, Sempione Tunnel, Brennero Tunnel,
Passage of Luino, Passage of Tarvisio, etc.
As a consequence of these investments:
- In the first 90 days since the launch of Gottardo Tunnel the freight trains were
6.200, with an increase of number of trains from 180 to 210 for day.
- Increasing and wider opportunities for Swiss and Italian Shippers/Freight
Forwarders coming from the new logistics services of Northern Europe.
=> Mutually at a major volume of traffic thanks the new Infrastructures, there is the
need of new «Digitals Corridors», where all types of informations, documents
and customs procedures can be shared by each actors within of Supply Chain
with a full digital approach

International Fast Trade Lanes:
main issues and objectives
Main issues:
• The transport and logistic industry is still highly based on paper-based
exchanges;
• Different standards are currently implemented by the IT systems of the
stakeholder involved in the intermodal corridors.
Main objectives:
• Raising visibility on the entire logistics process thanks to interoperability
platforms in order to share all relevant logistics information with the
stakeholder involved in the intermodal corridors;
• proactive management and possibility of reaction in case of unexpected
events thank to reliable and timely information;

MILOS allows shippers monitoring goods along international logistics

One concrete example
IKEA during 2014 launched the “banchina lunghissima”
project to reduce the «complex procedures and documents» to
be managed in the import process from extra EU countries to
the IKEA logistics hub located in Piacenza.
Circle, as technological partner, supported IKEA
implementing:
• five truck fast corridors from Genoa and
La Spezia ports to IKEA logistics hub in
Piacenza;
• an intermodal fast corridor from Genoa to
Rivalta Scrivia by rail (with contribution of
Rivalta Terminal Europa, another client
supported by Circle), and from Rivalta Scrivia
to the IKEA logistics hub in Piacenza by road
(logistics service provided by Autamarocchi).
• Export evolute Customs procedures are
ongoing.
The increased volume of container
shipped during 2016 using this procedure
was of 80%

Other significant examples
Noberasco founded in 1908, is the leader in the Italian
market of dry fruits.
Circle, as technological partner, supported Noberasco in
the implementation of a Logistics Platform for monitoring
the import process thanks to the integration with a vessel
tracking system (AIS systems) and with its Freight
Forwarders and Inland Carriers
Circle, as technological partner, supported Sogemar,
the Multimodal Transport Operator of rhe Contship
Group, in the digitalization of a “Rail Customs
Corridor” and a “Intermodal Customs Corridor”
procedures, for speeding up connections with the port
of La Spezia for two of its main clients (a
multinational company of sports products and
multinational company of confectionery products).
