Option 8 ACTIVITIES OFFERED BY OUR ASSOCIATIONS Thanks to you dear volunteers, the City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux counts more than 100 active associations offering services and varied leisure activities to the residents. We wish to thank you and recognize the importance of your work and implication towards the various association partners. We also encourage the residents to get involved in volunteering with the associations to maintain the diversity of leisure opportunities in our community. Thank you to all of you who give your time. The Sports, Recreation and Culture Team HALL RENTALS The City has three halls to rent for parties, exhibitions or seminars, with access to a kitchen if required. The capacity is 250 in the Banquet Hall, 150 in the Reception Hall, and 100 in the Park View Hall, with ample parking and wheelchair accessibility. The rental does not include tableware, tablecloths or catering services. A minimum of one month notice is required to reserve the halls. The chalets in the parks are reserved for use by our associations only. CITY EVENTS Sports, Recreation and Culture Department 2019-2020 REGISTRATION AND INFORMATION NIGHT August 21, 2019, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Banquet Hall, Civic Centre Come and meet the organizers of more than 30 various community groups. They look forward to answering your questions. HALLOWEEN ON ICE Come and skate in your costume and partake in thematic activities. This event is held in October. WINTER CARNIVAL Enjoy the disco on our skating ring and discover our activities on the illuminated paths. Big bonfire to warm you up and taffy on the snow at the rendez-vous! This event is held in February. ECOLOGICAL AND GARDENING DAY Not-to-be missed event for gardeners. Take advantage of our flower sale, various kiosks of information related to the environment and activities for your children. This event is held in May. GIANT YARD SALE Take advantage of your spring cleaning, or discover interesting items for sale at the Civic Centre and throughout the city. The biggest Yard Sale in the West Island. This event is held in May. FÊTE NATIONALE DU QUÉBEC June 23, 2020 Come to dance and celebrate the pride of being a Quebecer. Shows and fireworks to entertain you. Activities offered for the whole family. Thanks to the financial support of the Government of Quebec and the Mouvement national des Québécoises et Québécois. CANADA DAY July 1, 2020 Tons of activities and entertainment for all. Shows and fireworks to entertain you. This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada. FAMILY AFFAIR Come for a picnic and enjoy a fun-filled day for you and your entire family with our food trucks, our community groups and our various activities. This event is held in August. INTERNATIONAL DAY Come and celebrate our community’s cultural diversity with stage performances and food sampling. DOLLARD-DES-ORMEAUX Sports, Recreation and Culture Department PUBLIC LIBRARY 514-684-1496 bibliotheque@ddo.qc.ca Our free services include loans of eBooks, movies, audiobooks, magazines, as well as an impressive collection of comics, novels and documentaries. We also offer access to computers, readers’ suggestions and research help, Wi-Fi and a place to read or study. Furthermore, workshops, conferences and shows for all ages are presented. PUBLIC LIBRARY WEEK In October, we acknowledge Quebec Public Libraries with a breakfast and show for families as well as a variety of activities to celebrate the importance of a library in the community. MARCH BREAK During the School break in March, we propose activities (shows, workshops, movies, etc.) for children 6 to 12 years old every day. Fun guaranteed! LITERARY THURSDAYS In collaboration with the Canada Council of the Arts, we present to the local schools, meet and greet conferences with authors and illustrators. STORY TIME Story Time is offered weekly for children 0 to 5 year olds as well as on Saturdays for 0 to 8 year olds. Story Time is animated by our experienced storytellers allowing children to discover the magic of reading. VOLUNTEER At the library, there are different volunteer opportunities for teens and adults. Our programs such as Homework Helpers, Home Delivery Service, « Générations branchées » and « Lire et faire lire » are possible because of dedicated volunteers. DIGITAL LITERACY We are aiming to provide workshops for all ages and levels in regards to digital literacy. From coding to an introduction to the Internet, the library has it! CULTURAL EVENTS Sports, Recreation and Culture Department 2019-2020 Our events are free of charge and take place in the Banquet Hall of the Dollard-des-Ormeaux Community Centre. Funding for these events is courtesy of the Conseil des arts de Montréal and the program Montréal on tour and Concert nonconcerto. FORESTARE BAROQUE September 29 at 2 p.m. The Forestare Guitar Ensemble presents Vivaldi, Lully and Bach adapted in a modern reinterpretation and beautifully interpreted by twelve guitars and a double bass. True to its habit and with a lot of humor, the Ensemble offers neat presentations that tell the story of the composers of the Baroque period while making a link with our history. A 80-minute concert for an adult audience SOCALLED SINGS DIFROSH AND OTHER YIDDISH SONGS November 10 at 2 p.m. Socalled presents us with a new program of arranged songs for string quartet and voice that includes songs from Yiddish Theater, Hasidic melodies, Klezmer, folk songs, Holocaust songs, Israel and even original songs written by masters of the genre. A 70-minute concert presented in Yiddish and French for an adult audience J.S. BACH’S CHRISTMAS ORATORIO, Cantates 1, 4, 5, 6 December 12 at 7 p.m. The Caprice Ensemble and the Montreal Arts-Québec Vocal Ensemble will perform and sing one of the great masterpieces of Baroque music, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. The Christmas story, told in music by J.S. Bach, will be showcased by a renowned choir and orchestra, recipients of numerous awards. The angelic voices of the soloists and the chorus, as well as the trumpets and timpani of the orchestra under the baton of the chef Matthias Maute set the mood for the Holiday season. A 2-hour concert with intermission. Free passes available on Eventbrite.ca FRAGMENTS February 9 at 2 p.m. The Esca Quartet offers a zigzagging excursion from romantic to contemporary, passing from the melancholy of Chopin to the ardor of Ichmouratov, the whirlwind of Vallières, and the dancing and energetic folklore of Dvorak. This concert promises to leave you on the end of your chairs! A 75-minute concert for an adult audience ANBA TONÈL March 10 at 2 p.m. From the contredanse to the quadrille, including the congo-minuet and the troubadour music the Daniel Bellegarde Ensemble plunges us under the arbor of the dancing melodies played in the 19th Century in the French West Indies.
