The 2019 Recreation Guide has information about citywide events, classes, and available facilities for your family’s special gatherings. No refunds will be processed after the second class. All refunds are subject to a $10 administrative fee. Refunds must be approved by City staff. Residents Rates are set for Woodland residents living within the city limits. Non-Residents* Rates for those living outside the city limits, PO boxes, or those who can’t provide proof of residency are subject to an additional 20% or more for classes. The primary focus of the non-profit Woodland Senior Center Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to Recreation Foundation is to assist, augment, and the betterment of the lives of Woodland Seniors. Senior supplement the Community Services Department and Center Inc. supports events and programs within the Senior other recreational programs in the community. 4 Aquatics All Aquatics programs are held at the Charles Brooks Community Swim Center located at 155 N. West St. Lap Swim and Aqua Aerobics to the swimmer’s handbook at cityofwoodland.org/ $5 per visit, or 10 visit passes for $40, or a monthly pass for wreckers. Register children by what their age will be $50 (calendar month) on June 1, 2019. Seniors 55 and over: $4 per visit, 10 visit passes for $30, or monthly pass for $40 Junior Guard Program Lap swim: Participants may swim laps, water walk, or exercise at their Monday-Thursday; 10:00 am - 12:00 pm own pace. The following equipment is available for use, kick boards, Ages 12-14; $75 per session pull buoys, and noodles. The program provides opportunities to be trained in the basics of water safety with a foundation of Aqua Aerobics: Take advantage of the water’s natural resistance by using lifeguarding skills, physical fitness, education and your own body weight in a low impact environment that requires minimal exposure to aquatic safety. Public Swim Free The pool is open during the summer for recreational swimming. The facility is equipped with diving boards, snack bar, vending machines, picnic areas, showers, and changing rooms. Lap lanes are available most times for lap swimming. Children under the age of 10 are not permitted without an adult. The inflatable obstacle course will be available on Fridays. Schedule subject to change. Mon-Fri 6/10 - 8/16 1:00 - 3:45 pm Sat-Sun 5/25 - 8/18 3:00 - 7:00 pm (Closed June 15, 28, 29, 30, July 20, 21, 27, 28, August 3, 4) Lifeguard Training Saturday, April 20 and Monday-Friday, April 22-26, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Ages 15/older; $160* Get trained to be a certified lifeguard. Participants must be able to swim 300 yards continuously and retrieve a 10-pound brick from 7-feet-deep water. Participants should be prepared to be in the water during the class. All class dates must be attended for certification. This class does not provide the Title 22 certification. Scholarships are available for qualified applicants. Woodland Wreckers - Recreational Swim Team Ages 5-18; $135* The City’s Recreational Swim Team for kids begins practice on April 29. Swimmers must be able to swim one pool length (25 yards) without assistance to participate on the team. For practice times and dates, refer Recreation Guide 2019 *Additional fees apply for non-residents
Aquatics 5 Swim Lessons able to tread water for 1-minute, and swim 25 yards using Group lessons $60*/session (morning), or $72*/session (evening) both freestyle and backstroke. Swimming lessons meet for eight 30-minute sessions, Monday through Thursday for two weeks throughout the summer. This program has Orca - Level Five Stroke Refinement scholarships available for qualified applicants. There will be no class on Average Age 7-14 years old the 4th of July, therefore Session 2 has been prorated. The Orca class focuses on swimmer endurance and the refine- ment of the strokes learned during the dolphin level. Participants will be swimming 100 yards freestyle, backstroke, Spring Session 1 Mon-Thu May 13-23 elementary backstroke, and 25 yards breaststroke and butterfly without stopping. To move to Shark, participants must swim a Session 1 Mon-Thu June 17-27 minimum of 50 yards with the front and back-crawl strokes, 25 yards of breaststroke, elementary backstroke and butterfly. Session 2 Mon-Wed / Mon-Thu July 1-11 Summer Session 3 Mon-Thu July 15-25 Shark - Level Six Fitness Swimmer Average Age 10-18 years old Session 4 Mon-Thu July 29-August 8 The Shark class is the final level for stroke refinement and Session 5 Mon-Thu August 12-22 further development of swimming endurance. Toddler Time Thursdays; 9:30 - 10:30 am Community & Senior Center, 2001 East St. Ages 1/up; $20*/month (first four Thursdays) In this weekly class, toddlers are introduced to new experiences and activities including arts and crafts, local adventures, music, and socialization. Youth 9 Dynamic Dancing with Yvette Community & Senior Center, 2001 East St. Offering an affordable year round dance program for children 2.5+, teens, adults, and Seniors, with classes in Ballet, Bellydance, Creative Movement, Hip Hop, Jazz, Stretch/Strength, Tap and our exercise dance class “Get UP and Dance!” Join the teachers of Dynamic Dancing, Yvette Corvo Misner, Elise Curteman, Kathy Daily, and Anja Dingman, for creativity, musicality, technique, choreography, exercise, brain building, and plain ole’ movin’ and groovin’! Cello International Tennis Academy City Park Tennis Courts, 629 Cleveland St. Instructor: Michael Kwong, CITA Woodland & Sunny Mallison Sign up for tennis lessons taught by head professional Michael Kwong or Sunny Mallison. Michael is a Level 2 Advanced Coach from Tennis Coaches Australia (TCA) and was the Division 1 team captain and No 1 player for Sydney University. Michael has a passion for teaching tennis to players of all levels and specializes in developing junior players into successful high school and college team players. Teens 11 Summertime Fun Club Volunteer Program Mandatory training dates Saturday & Sunday June 1 & 2; 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Volunteer with Summertime Fun Club June 10 - August 16 Entering 9-12 Grades; $25* for summer (includes t-shirt) Be a volunteer for the Summertime Fun Club and gain valuable experience. Mandatory training occurs June 1 & 2 and prepares volunteers for assisting program staff with activities in the Summertime Fun Club during the summer. Parks included Ferns, Pioneer, and Woodside. All volunteers will be fingerprinted prior to starting at the park. 8th graders may sign up if they participated in Teens Helping Seniors as a 7th grader. Volunteer opportunities will consist of 3-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday during summer. Supervised by program staff, participants go to senior’s homes to perform light housework, yard-work, and other household projects. Eligible volunteers earn a day-trip to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. All volunteers participating in this program will be fingerprinted. Internet Driver Education Ages 15/up; $40*/course Driver education is a California-required course for teens to receive a driver’s license. It is the first step that must be taken so the teen can receive a driver’s permit. DMV-accepted certificates issued upon successful completion of the course. Class does not include behind-the-wheel driving. Summer at City Hall Monday-Friday, June 10 - June 28; 9:00 am - 4:00 pm Entering Grades 11-12; Free This program is a partnership between the City of Woodland and Woodland Joint Unified School District. Summer at City Hall exposes youth to how local government works, positive approaches to influence decision- making, and democracy. Participants will tour City and County departments, receive lessons on civics, participate in job shadowing of City of Woodland personnel, and participate in an advocacy project, which will lead to a Mock City Council meeting. 22 Parks & Facilities Park Permits Parks shade structures are available for exclusive use with a reservation. Reservations are available from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm on a first-come, first-served basis. Park reservations are taken up to one year in advance. Reservations can be made in person at the Woodland Community & Senior Center, 2001 East St.; or online on the CSD website. Reserve a park online, find photos of specific parks, and get more information by visiting our website at cityofwoodland.org/CSD. No reservations November 1 - February 29. Fees are listed for local non-profit and private group use. Groups up to 75: $40/hour for residents, $80/hour for non-residents. Fees apply for any changes to permits. Athletic Field Reservation Procedures All groups or teams who want to play league or tournament games on the fields, or any groups who want to use the athletic fields, should proceed with the reservation process.
