Page 20 of 27 Upcoming Event Flyers City Secretary The Office of the City Secretary is new to providing information in the City Manager’s report. Being new, I thought I’d start with an introduction. My name is Kristin Downs; I am a wife, a mother of two handsome boys, a student, and the Duncanville City Secretary! I am beyond blessed to have the opportunity to serve the City of Duncanville. I moved to Duncanville when I was around six months old, and I am a 2001 Duncanville High School class graduate. Duncanville is very near and dear to my heart! I started my career with the City as a temp and worked my way to become your City Secretary. The previous City Secretary, Mary Jones, hired me to temporarily function as the City's main phone line and front counter support. As I observed Mrs. Jones, I started to think, wow, I can do this; I want to do this! And I knew very early that I wanted to retire here in my City, the City of Champions. I quickly enrolled in the University of North Texas’ Texas Municipal Clerks Certification Program and graduated on July 31, 2020. In March of 2021, I received the Texas Municipal Clerk’s Office Achievement of Excellence Award. Both accomplishments are City of Duncanville • P.O. Page 21 of 27 huge and dear to me; I started my certification when I was eight months pregnant, and to be recognized by my peers for all my hard work and dedication was rewarding! City Secretaries are a crucial part of their local government and help keep the City running. I get to work closely with the City Council, Boards and Commissions, and City Management. My daily responsibilities include preparing City Council agendas, posting notices, recording minutes, Elections, Records Management, Public Information (Open Records), managing the City Council and City Secretary’s budgets, approving Livestock Permits and TABC applications. I genuinely enjoy being the City Secretary for our City and love working with City Council and all my co-workers; we are a great team! Kristin Downs Fire Department Duncanville Fire Department responded to a total of 167 calls this past week (08/11/2021 – 08/18/2021), which included one building fire in Cedar Hill, one cooking fire in Duncanville (small oven fire), 104 medical calls, and 21 motor vehicle accidents.
