Dublin Tel: 01 516 5441 Mobile: 086 1595334 email: ambientarchitecture@yahoo.com www.ambient-architecture.ie Double height dining space The dining space with ceiling pendant is in elegant double height, connecting the downstairs with the upper level. Double height entrance hall The wide hall is a double height space. High level windows give great light in the bedrooms. First floor landing The landing is designed as a play area for the 3 children of the house. It is open to the dining and hall side. The new house follows the pattern of development in the estate of 1.5 storey double pitched detached houses by being parallel to neighbouring buildings with the gable wall facing the road. Due to the angular plot size at the road frontage, the building was split up into 2 halves of monopitch volumes, staggered in plan and height. Entrance F1 Nutgrove Office Park, The building is constructed in a single leaf of concrete blocks, with external highly efficient insulation. Rathfarnham, Dublin 14 One side is then rendered and the other cladded in brickslips. While giving a traditional appearance of render and bricks, this method reduces all cold bridges as otherwise associated with traditional cavity wall construction. This 1930´s semi detached property was extended to the side and to the rear and fully renovated. The front side extension with dormer window is finished in the same pebble dash as the main house. The site has a strong fall from left to right, therefore the neigh- bours house is at a lower level. The ridge height of the extension roof was dropped to mitigate the drop in roof line to the neighbours. Due to the steep fall in levels and to achieve adequate parking space, the front garden was excavated and small retaining walls put in place to keep up the higher garden levels. The natural slates were salvaged and used on the front main house and extension to side. The plinth band was carried around the side extension. The window is framed in an acrylic band. The detail of exposed rafters of the main house is carried over in the side extension. bespoke building solutions Understanding energy solutions Building for reduced mobility STAIRCASE A classic staircase was chosen with turned spindles and walnut cladded threads and hand- rail. The stairs are curved thanks to skilled craftsmen. On entering the rear extension the vast garden becomes apparent due to the full height glaz- ing screen. On the left is a elevated living area, to the right the kitchen and dining space. ‘It’s reassuring to talk to a contractor who understood our architect’s vision and worked with them to deliver, what is, our dream home.” Glasnevin homeowner 61 Carlingford Road, Drumcondra, Dublin 9. www.dac.ie contact Paul or David Cashin 0862603225 15

He previously worked for several international firms, where his flare for design across all areas blossomed and enticed him to set up his own business and carve out a path of his own. Estab- lishing Teicniuil Priory Consulting Engineers’ in 2003, Matt committed his vision and skill to improving the lives of the people that walked through his office door and created a highly tal- ented and dedicated team. And with the firm’s workload increasing each year, and the number of clients on their client-list growing, it cannot be denied that Birmingham, U.K. original, suc- ceeded in breaking the mould. “We help clients through design con- cepts,” Matt Revealed. “A client will come to us with a design, an archi- tectural aspect more difficult than the rest or a project half-built with a structural problem- and we listen to them. We take their wants and wishes and design around them- we understand that our clients are com- ing to us with the biggest financial investment of their lives and we want them to enjoy the process and the end-product. We want them to benefit from choosing us, and to trust us and our way forward- as if there is no trust, there will be no clients.” Aiming to provide a product, a building or home that goes beyond their clients’ expectations- Te- icniuil Priory Consulting Engineers have pio- neered many engineering and architectural rem- edies over the years and intend on continuing to inspire and innovate across Ireland and the U.K. Boasting a wide and varied portfolio, the firm be- lieves that there is no problem too big or small, too complicated conquer.
