The Lincoln Imp Hidden up high on a pillar in the Angel Choir of Lincoln Cathedral you will find a symbol of the city swirling in myth and legend: the Lincoln Imp. One day, as a 14th century legend has it, the Devil decided to let his imps out to play. After causing havoc at Chesterfield by twisting the spire of St Mary and All Saints Church, the wind blew two of them all the way to Lincoln. They were so spellbound by the beauty of Lincoln Cathedral that they were afraid to enter. One imp, plucking up courage, entered Lincoln Cathedral and soon started to cause havoc by tripping up the Lord Bishop, knocking down the Dean and teasing the Vergers and Choir. As he continued his antics by smashing stain glass windows and destroying lights an angel appeared and commanded, “O impious imp, be ye turned to stone!”. The imp was at once turned into stone, and made to sit for evermore in a cleft in the Angel Choir. JHWalter are proud to be hosting the IMP Trail auction in October in conjunction wth Lincoln BIG raising money for St. Barnabas Our front cover image is by kind permission of Lincoln Cathedral.
