Storytelling ~ $20 per adult-child pair, $8 for each additional child
This June holidays the museums come alive after dark as storytellers take you through galleries and
regale you with stories! Be enchanted by majestic birds, royal celebrations, and mischief makers.
Listen to tales of characters that fought fires, travelled far and wide on a quest and those who met
with an epic chase!

Explore the museums at night and discover the artefacts that inspired the storytelling. Continue the
story character’s experiences with a glow-in-the-dark craft activity and take home a memento of
your visit to the museum.

Join us on an experimental workshop to explore how “bacteria and viruses” react with soap.
While you are at it, create a psychedelic print which you can bring home!

The session will begin with a facilitated tour through Hope from Chaos: Pandemic Reflections
exhibition. As we ponder on the ways to stop the spread, the workshop will include a demonstration
on what soap does to germs through the phenomena of surface tension. Lastly, create a print from
these experiments that aims to remind us to keep germs at bay by washing the right way.

Venture into the world of art and technology this holiday at ArtScience Museum. A half-day camp
with an interactive workshop and immersive play awaits you!

In the workshop, participants will be introduced to the world of programming and learn more about
the basic concepts of coding! On top of that, participants will join a facilitated visit to Future World:
Where Art Meets Science where they will discover the many different ways to engage with the digital
artworks in the exhibition.

Making Art in Pandemic Times

Living in a time of a pandemic, how do you deflate any pent-up emotions at hand? Translate your
personal experience into visual works of art.

Art can help. Across the weekend from 11 – 12 June, participate in a series of masterclasses and
workshops where you can express yourself through cartooning, playmaking with materials, crafting a
creative zine-journal and designing a nature-inspired illustration.

Learn the basics of cartooning from Joseph Chiang which includes a sharing of his comic Chronicles
of a Circuit Breaker. Craft a zine-journal with Mary Bernadette Lee through collaging and draw your
emotions by responding to music. Explore your relationship with nature and create a nature-inspired
illustration by Darel Seow. Together with Weng Pixin, make a funky felt mask and create your own
versions of viruses using plasticine.

A simple act of taking part and spending time on creative pursuits can help boost positive moods.
Find moments to connect with yourself as you clear your mind and make better sense of your
emotions through creative expression.

Basics of Cartooning with Joseph Chiang

Suitable for 12 years old and above
Have you ever wondered how to make your own comic? Or simply having a fascination in narrative art
and how you can tell your own story about the pandemic through comics?

In this 2.5-hour masterclass, cartoonist Joseph Chiang will share more about his comic Chronicles
of a Circuit Breaker, a collection of comics that recorded life during the circuit breaker in 2020. He
will demonstrate ways on basic cartooning such as drawing of characters and the fundamentals of
comics. At the end, you will be able to create your comic and put it all together from concept to
completion.

Joseph is interested in comics and graphic novels, specifically in the form as a memoir or
autobiography. During the circuit breaker in 2020, he started a journal to record the daily happenings
to document his life during the semi-lockdown. This became the inspiration for Chronicles of a Circuit
Breaker.

Make A Funky Face Mask with Weng Pixin

Hey kids! Do you enjoy exploring different forms of art and making crafts? Join us as you will learn
basic sewing techniques and create a funky face mask using felt.

The workshop takes inspiration from The Mask Project by Nonzuzo Gxekwa and Pierre Le Riche,
featured featured in Hope from Chaos: Pandemic Reflections. In this 1-hour workshop, Weng Pixin will
guide you in making a funky face mask with easy-to-follow steps.

This masterclass is offered as part of our education programme for Hope from Chaos: Pandemic
Reflections during the mid-year school holidays.

Sculpt and Make Stories with Plasticine with Weng Pixin

Calling all kids! Do you fancy playing with plasticine and then making a funny story out of your
characters? We are letting our hands guide us in this plasticine-and-storymaking workshop!

We will be referencing Luke Jerram’s glass sculptures of viruses featured in Hope from Chaos:
Pandemic Reflections. In this 1-hour workshop by comic artist Weng Pixin, you will create your own
versions of viruses using plasticine, followed by a round of storymaking made by you!

Create a Nature-Inspired Illustration with Darel Seow

As the human world came to a standstill during the pandemic, nature flourished in many forms,
whether wild spaces rejuvenating or an ever-growing collection of plants adorning our homes.

During this 2-hour workshop led by Darel Seow, you will explore what your relationship with nature
is like and how it might have changed during the last two years, before capturing these ideas in a
character-based illustration.

Drop-in Activity: Postcards from the Heart

Suitable for Everyone
Do you have stories to tell but have little means to do so? If you could express yourself on a blank
postcard, how would it look like?

While tapping on your feelings and emotions, join our drop-in activity where you can design the
cover of the postcard through scribbling, colouring, or freestyle drawing. You can include a message
to someone you have been wanting to share your feelings to, or pen down your thoughts for another
stranger to read. At the end, you can choose to display your card or alternatively, you can keep it
tucked away, for the memories.

We hope to extend a channel of hope for visitors to share their stories of sadness, confusion, humour
through art. What is your story? Come, share with us!

Bucky in Space is a first-of-its-kind tabletop game that brings the architecture, art, science and
design of space exploration to curious adventurers.

Conducted as an immersive audio-visual-spatial learning experience, the game re-adapts the genius
of famous architect and futurist Buckminster Fuller for a time where space exploration is being
increasingly realised as an emerging frontier for the future of humanity.

Participants will develop their creativity and motor skills through 3D model-making, while
appreciating how space architecture is an essential foundation for building civilisation on exciting
worlds such as the Moon and Mars.

out what items can be reused and how we can help sort them out. You can explore ways to upcycle
take-out containers, like Sally, and make your own shrink art using recycled plastic #6. Discover how
plastics are so versatile and tap into your creativity while still being environmentally friendly.

With increasing awareness of the detrimental environmental effects from single-use plastics, there is
a constant search for various ways to reduce our plastic footprint.

One of the ways is to upcycle! What is that? Why is it important?

You will find out more through a series of activities and a crafting workshop to create your own
upcycled pouch, made up of PVC sheets taken from our promotional banners around the museum.

The NUS Museum and NUS Baba House present Be an Archaeologist for a Day, a 2-hour programme
for children to role-play as archaeologists. Through the process of examining a small excavation
site specially designed by the museum, participants will work together with their guardians to
dig, reconstruct broken fragments, make inferences, and uncover the histories of various sites.
In the process, they will go through the steps professional archaeologists typically take in their
work including excavation, documentation, object identification, and presenting their findings to
an audience. Inspired by actual archaeological sites in Singapore which are represented in the
NUS Museum’s Archaeology Library and NUS Baba House, participants will also learn more about
Singapore’s pre-colonial and colonial histories along the way.

- Each child must be accompanied by an adult (aged 21 years and above) who will participate
in the full duration of the programme.
- The Be an Archaeologist for a Day programmes held at the NUS Museum and the NUS Baba
House are largely similar. You are encouraged to sign-up for only one of the two sessions.
- Each session has limited capacity. You will be put on a waitlist once maximum capacity

Equivalent Unit container) passing through every year. At any one time, there are about 1,000 vessels
in the port, arriving around the clock.
