Thanks to all our sponsors and supporters Convenor’s Welcome It gives me great pleasure to welcome players, parents, coaches and friends to the seventh Glasgow International Youth Badminton Championships. The organising committee have worked tirelessly to ensure that you, once again, enjoy a great sporting event which will showcase junior badminton talent. I, personally, would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the managing and running of this event. I wouldn’t want to single anyone out but you all know who you are! I very much look forward to Friday’s Team Competition where 8 teams in the U13 and 12 teams in the U15 age group take part in a highly competitive tournament. On Saturday and Sunday the individual competitions will be played with 204 competitors from 13 participating nations in this unique International experience. The inclusion of our event in the Badminton Europe list for seeding at the 2020 European Junior Championships for Under 15 players has also been a nice accolade for the organisers and will provide some exciting competition as players strive to gain selection for their respective countries. An event of this kind offers a unique opportunity to develop the knowledge base that we have in the city to take our coaches, officials, volunteers and, most importantly, our young competitors to the next level as they aspire to develop. Finally, on behalf of the Glasgow & North Strathclyde Group, Glasgow School of Sport and Glasgow Sport, I wish you all an enjoyable and rewarding stay here in Glasgow. All the very best to all competitors. Gillian Allan Convenor of Glasgow & North Strathclyde Group www.glasgowbadminton.btck.co.uk
