A Letter from the President Welcome to the 2018 Illinois Funeral Directors Association Annual Convention. We are so happy to be back in Peoria at the Peoria Marriott Pere Marquette and the Peoria Civic Center. We would like to thank the Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau for helping make this convention a success. We are very excited about this year’s convention as it provides an opportunity for networking with old acquaintances and making new friends. We hope that this year’s programs and breakout sessions will help both students and licensees gain a better understanding of funeral service and a new perspective on the direction the profession is heading as we move forward. The convention begins on Monday, June 25 with the Early Arrival Meet and Greet from 7:00- 9:00 p.m. at Obed & Isaac’s Micro Brewery and Eatery, just a short walk from the hotel. Free shuttle service will be provided. Tuesday morning begins with our Professional Session and Service of Remembrance. We ask that you attend to support the members serving on the Board of Directors as they are installed into office, and to acknowledge the IFDA members who have been licensed 40, 50, and even 60 years. The Service of Remembrance will immediately follow. This service is where we remember our lost loved ones from the past year. Please remember: This is what our profession is all about. Join us as we remember them. Todd Van Beck is our Keynote Speaker this year and will give presentations on Camp Douglas and the always-popular program “Assassination & Funeral of Abraham Lincoln.” Our other programs and speakers were carefully chosen for content and are experts in their field. Tuesday evening, the Exhibit Floor is open from 5:15 -7:15 p.m. This is the largest funeral service display in Illinois. Please visit and support our vendors who are so important to the success of this convention. Immediately after the exhibits, please join us for the “Member Appreciation Party” in the Cotillion Ballroom at the Marriott Pere Marquette. We will be awarding the first ever Illinois Award of Funeral Service Distinction to those firms that were selected from the entrants. The “Rowdy Jones Band” will provide musical entertainment at the party. Wednesday features many breakout sessions as we try to give attendees as many alternatives for continuing education opportunities as we can. The convention concludes with the popular “Idea Exchange,” where you are able to discuss today’s issues with fellow colleagues and exchange possible solutions, and an embalming lesson on obese and opioid cases. In closing, I want to thank the convention sponsors and exhibitors for their generosity and support of IFDA and the Annual Convention. I also want to thank the Board of Directors, Convention Committee, and the IFDA staff for their hard work to make this convention a huge success. Finally, I would like to thank you, for your tireless care and devotion to the families you serve. I would also like to invite everyone to the 2019 IFDA convention June 24-27, 2019 at the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville, IL. I hope you enjoy the convention. Sincerely, Mark Sherfy Mark D.
