TRANSFORMING THE WAY WE DELIVER INFORMATION. As a mission-based organization, it is incumbent upon us to provide you with the tools that you need to help ensure that people and property are protected from harm everywhere. We have heard from you that a physical code book or a static digital version of a book are not the best means to help solve problems on a real-time basis. You want information faster, on different devices— phones, tablets, and laptops—and in different languages. We also heard that you don’t want only the text of a code or standard. You want context and insights to help understand problems and develop solutions. Our shift to fulfill this need is clearly underway. You are increasingly seeing us deliver information in different and more digital ways. That is just the beginning. With increasing speed, technology is changing the way we all work, and our business is changing too… for the better. NFPA® is striving to be more global, more connected, and more digital. We recently announced the launch of NFPA LiNK™. NFPA LiNK™ is a major component in how we will fundamentally transform the way we deliver information going forward. NFPA LiNK™, now in its infancy, will deliver intuitive, seamless, situational and code-based information on demand. Once at full development, NFPA LiNK™ will learn as you use it and adapt its content to fit your needs. You will have greater access to a wider array of material than you have today, and you will have it at your fingertips. Effective starting with 2020 releases, NFPA will no longer offer PDFs for new editions of codes and standards, handbooks, or other reference titles such as pocket guides, including new titles available through the National Fire Codes® Subscription Service (NFCSS™). Titles previously published in PDF will remain in-market and will still be available in the digital access version of NFCSS. Our chief objective in shifting the way we deliver content to you is to help all of you do your job better. These changes help our mission in other ways, too. NFPA is a self-funded non-profit. This means that all the critical mission work we do—facilitating the development of codes and standards, research, public education, and wildfire mitigation outreach—relies on NFPA generating revenue from the sale of codes and standards, training materials, and the certifications we create. We have seen, with greater frequency, the distribution of unauthorized copies of NFPA codes and standards. Put together with poor quality and often riddled with inaccurate and misleading information, these unauthorized copies can compromise our fundamental mission of safety and put us all at risk. Couple this with ongoing challenges to copyright protection, and it is time for us to do our work differently. In doing so we will maintain our essential collaboration with all of you to make the world a safer place. Sincerely, Jim Pauley President and CEO, NFPA NFPA members save 10% 3
