About This Documentation
This documentation describes the Installation of Prinect Color Toolbox Version 2021.
What you should already know
We assume that you are familiar with the Windows® operating systems that are supported.
Further Documentation

Symbols and Styles
The following typographical conventions are used in this manual:
• References to other chapters and sections are blue (on the screen) and underlined.
Example: See section "Symbols and Styles", page 5.
• Quotation marks are used to indicate menus, folders, functions, hardware conditions, switch
settings, system messages, etc.
Example: Set the switch to "off".
• Menus, functions and sub-functions are separated by ">".
Example: Select "File > Open...".
• A plus sign is used to indicate that several keys have to be pressed at the same time.

Program Scope
Prinect Color Toolbox contains the following programs or options:
• Quality Monitor: Program for the analysis and quality control of color standards for printing and
proofing based on color measurements
• Profile Tool: Program for creating ICC press and proof profiles for CMYK and Multicolor
• HD Proof Tuner: Program for subjective tuning of proofs that are within the proof tolerance and
iterated.

Note: The applications can be used only as licensed. Some features are not available if you

did not enable all of the components.
Prerequisites
System Prerequisites
• Operating systems:
· Windows 10 Professional 64-bit (recommended)
· Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit (supported, but not recommended)
· Windows Server 2012 R2 (supported, but not recommended)
· Windows Server 2016 (supported, but not recommended)
· Windows Server 2019 (recommended server operating system))
• PC + RAM: CPU i3 class with at least 2 GHz clock, at least 4 GB RAM
• Disk space: 1.8 GB for applications, data and documentation
• 2x USB or serial port for the colorimeter
To be able to play the video tutorials, Windows Media Player as of version 12 must be installed.
Downloading installation packages via the Prinect Mainte-
nance Center
By default, the installation packages are made available via the Prinect Maintenance Center (PMC).
You will find more information in the following documents:
• Installation - Prinect Maintenance Center (describes initial installation and commissioning)

After installing and setting up the PMC, you can download the desired software packages under "View
> Product Installations" and extract the ZIP file on your target computer.

Note: The index at the beginning of the file name indicates the order in which the software
packages must be installed. For example, if you want to install Color Toolbox and Calibra-
tion Manager on the same computer, install the Color Toolbox first, then the Calibration
Manager.
Notes on licensing
• Use the Prinect License Manager to license your software on the Prinect License Server.
• License Server and License Manager are installed together with the Prinect Maintenance Center.
Normally, the PMC computer also serves as a license server.
• If you want to operate the License Server on another computer, download the "Prinect License
Server" installation package. The License Server must always be installed on a Windows com-

puter. A description how to install the Prinect Licensing software is available in the "Heidelberg
Prinect Licensing - User's Guide", chapter "Installation".
• For some applications, the option to install both the License Server and the application on the
same computer is offered during installation (only applies to Windows computers).
Notes on Installation
Permissions
All installation operations require that the user logged in on the local computer has local administra-
tor permissions (do not use the domain administrator for domains!).
If at all possible, you should not cancel installation operations once they are running (canceling is not
a problem, however, before the installation operations are compiled together). During installation,
entries are also made to the Windows Registry. If installation is canceled, entries may not be fully
removed from the Registry and cause problems if installation is repeated or when uninstalling the pro-
gram.
Virus scanner
Before you install the software, check whether any virus scanner may be active. You must disable this
first to avoid problems during the software installation.
Adobe Reader
Some of the documentation shipped with Prinect Color Tools is available as PDFs. To be able to read
these, you need an Adobe Reader version or an Acrobat full version. You can download the Adobe
Reader from the Adobe homepage (www.adobe.com) free of charge. On the referenced Adobe home-
page, you can switch to a regional site matching your region. There you can download a version of
the Adobe Reader software in that language.
HD Environment
In a full installation, a "Heidelberg Standard Environment" is installed first of all. This is supported by
all the Prinect applications and is to simplify the serviceability of Prinect products.
HD Environment is always created by the Prinect application that is installed first. Whenever another
Prinect application is added, the setup program first checks whether a HD Environment already exists
or not. If HD Environment exists, its installation is skipped and it also does not display in the instal-
lation progress.

General Information about the Setup Program
• "Next" button
Use this button to go to the next dialog in each case.
• "Back" button
This lets you go back one step in the installation to verify or edit settings.
• "Cancel" button
This lets you terminate the installation.
Installing the Prinect Color Toolbox
If not already installed on your computer, the "Prinect License Manager" and drivers for the dongle
and colorimeters are also installed during the setup of "Prinect Color Toolbox".
In addition, a link is created on the desktop for easy access to the Prinect Maintenance Center.
You will be guided step-by-step through the installation.
Procedure
1. In the extracted zip file, double-click "ColorToolboxSetup.exe" in the "Prinect Color Toolbox >
HD_ColorToolbox-Installer" directory.
A dialog displays where you can select the language for the setup.

Note: The selected language only refers to texts displayed during installation.

2. Select the language in which you want to run the setup and confirm it by clicking "OK".
The "InstallShield Wizard" for the setup starts.
This installation wizard will guide you through the various steps of the installation.
3. Click "Next" in the first dialog.
The License Agreement window appears.
4. Read the licensing agreement carefully and accept it by clicking "I accept the terms of the licens-
ing agreement".
5. Click "Next".

Note: At this point, the "Heidelberg Application Environment" is installed. The subsequent

windows do no display if it is already installed. In this case, the next step is to select the
License Server.

Carefully read the information in the window that follows and then click "Next ".
6. This is where you define a user account for the Heidelberg support. Leave the default as it is and
click "New User Information".
7. Assign a password in the "Specify Heidelberg Support user account" dialog and retype this pass-
word in the text box. Then click "OK".
The following window appears again.
8. Click "Next".
This window displays the suggested location for the user data. You can modify the path in this
box.
9. Check that the path is correct and click "Next".
10. Check that the path for the temporary files is correct and click "Next".
The folder for the support files is specified in the next step. If possible, the drive with the greatest
amount of available memory and on which the operating system is not installed is suggested
automatically. In the case of external storage drives (e.g. USB hard disks), you must confirm
whether the data are really to be filed there.
11. Check that the path is correct and click "Next".

Note: At this point, the "Heidelberg Application Environment" is now installed and means

that the PC is prepared for installation of other Heidelberg Prinect applications.
12. Select the License Server in the next window:

• "Local"
Select this option if you wish to install the License Server locally on this PC.
• "External"
Normally, the licenses are managed via the License Server, which is installed together with the
Prinect Maintenance Center.
After you click "Next", a window displays where you must type in the host name of the computer
on which the License Server is installed.
In both cases, when you select the License Server, you have to enter the license key for Prinect Color
Toolbox using "Heidelberg Prinect License Manager".

Note: Floating licenses can be used.

13. Click "Next".
In the next window you can once again review all paths/folders you specified.
14. Click "Next".
The installation is started.
A window showing the installation progress appears soon after.

Note: Follow any instructions that may appear during installation.

Caution: If you install to a Prinect system with a Supervisor, the "InstallShield Wizard Com-
pleted" window shows you a message, telling you that the Prinect system must be restarted.
This is necessary to be able to load new process standards from the MDS. The option is dis-
abled by default because it also impacts other applications connected to this Prinect system
(e.g. Prinect Cockpits). If you are not sure, ask your system administrator when the system
can be restarted.
15. Click "Finish" to conclude installation.
The window closes and installation is concluded.
Licensing / Demo Mode
To use all of the Prinect Color Tools functions, you must correctly license the software after installa-
tion. If you do not, the non-licensed program parts will run in the demo mode. For example, in "Color
Toolbox", you would not be able to save the color data files and ICC profiles, use the analysis func-
tions and print the reports.

12 Version 2021Installation Uninstall Prinect Color Toolbox Use the Windows uninstall function to remove single software modules. The steps for invoking it differ slightly depending on the Windows version you use. Below we will describe how to uninstall "Prinect Color Toolbox" on a PC with a Windows 10 operating system. Procedure 1. Invoke the "Settings" using the Windows Start button. 2. In "Settings", mark the software you wish to uninstall (Heidelberg Prinect Calibration Tool / Cal- ibration Manager) and click "Uninstall". The "InstallShield Wizard" starts. 3. Then click "Next" in the "Remove program" window. Prinect Color Toolbox – Installation 13
Installation 4. Select whether you also want to remove Prinect Licensing. It is possible that Prinect Licensing is also used by other Prinect applications. (5). Enable "Remove program" only if you are sure that the licensing is no longer needed. 6. Click "Next". 7. Check the uninstall settings and start uninstalling the software by clicking "Next". The software is now uninstalled. We recommend rebooting your computer after uninstalling the soft- ware. 8. Click "Finish". After the reboot, the uninstall process of the program is complete. If necessary, the Prinect Service Tools must be uninstalled separately. 14 Version 2021
