ITINERARY 2020 : 26 Nov / 2021 : 28 Jan Feb 12, 25 Day 1 Depart to Lima via Amsterdam Day 2 Lima, Peru Welcome to Lima! Today you will be picked up from the airport and transferred to your hotel. Day 3 Lima, Peru (B/L/D) Your sightseeing tour explores Miraflores and San Isidro, the modern districts of Lima as well as its historic center, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassic movements also reached Peru and a handful of well-preserved buildings offer a glimpse of the blend of past and present that characterizes the capital. One of the best examples included in your tour is the cathedral (16th century) containing the remains of the Spanish conqueror Pizarro. Another stop will be at the Santo Domingo Monastery, where the San Marcos University, the first in South America, was founded in 1551. In addition to its notable Baroque architecture and art pieces the monastery offers a 360-degree city view from its 46-meter bell tower. Today you will be transferred to the restaurant Mangos to have lunch. This is a casual restaurant/lounge bar centrally located in the Larcomar shopping center in Miraflores offering both Peruvian fare and international dishes. The restaurant features three dining areas but our favorite is definitely the terrace overlooking the Pacific Ocean. At lunch time diners can take advantage of the buffet option. In the evening you will be transferred to the restaurant La Cala to have dinner. In 'Cala' sophisticated and creative (not only, but mostly) seafood dishes are served in a magical setting; the restaurant is perched on the ocean’s edge. Attention to detail is not only reflected in the presentation of its contemporary Peruvian food but in the service. (transfers with English speaking guide included) Day 4 Lima - Cusco (B/L/D) Today you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the airport for today´s flight to Cusco. Recommended flight: LA 2075 09:56 Lima 11:23 Cusco In Cusco you will be picked up from the airport and taken to your hotel. You will be transferred to the cosy restaurant Incanto to have lunch. This restaurant features an original Inca as well as a Pre-Inca wall. The cozy atmosphere is highlighted by a typical Cusquenian oven. From your table, you can see how expert chefs work on innovative dishes. The menu includes creative dishes of Peruvian, Italian and international cuisine. The dining room across the small bar is decorated with sepia pictures from Martin Chambi. The images of this pioneer Indian photographer, who is regarded as one of the most important photographers of the last century, depict Cusco’s heritage of highland Indian culture. In the afternoon you walk through the major sites of interest in Cusco. You visit the famous cathedral with its magnificently carved woodwork, ornate altar and many hundreds of canvases from the 17th-century Cusco Painting School. You continue exploring the cultural wealth of Cusco at the Temple of the Sun where we witness the incredible masonry of the Incas, an engineering feat that remains an enigma. Afterwards you walk along Hatunrumiyoc Street named after the 12-angled stone clearly visible in the remaining walls of what used to be Inca Roca’s Palace. You make a last stop in San Blas artisan quarter. Its steeped cobblestone alleys not only offer spectacular views of the city but are lined with workshops and galleries, a great way to soak in Cusco's artistic atmosphere. For dinner you will be transferred to Tunupa Cusco. Choose from a buffet of Peruvian traditional dishes at Tunupa Cusco, before enjoying a live music and folk dancing show at 08:00 pm. Despite there being no proper stage (musicians and dancers perform at the level of the tables) the show offers an insight into Peruvian dance and folklore. We recommend arriving early to get a prime table close to performers. After the show, enjoy an impressive view of Cusco’s illuminated main square featuring the cathedral and La Compania Church.
Day 5 Cusco (B/L/D) This morning you will be transferred from Cusco to Ollanta train station. The train ride takes you through the Sacred Valley of the Incas up to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival a small coach takes you up the steep roads to the entrance of the citadel. For centuries Machu Picchu remained undiscovered by the Spaniards and has only been found in 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham. During a guided tour you will experience the uniqueness of the location and the genius that went into its construction, making this Inca site one of the seven new wonders of the world. You will have lunch at Café Inkaterra. Café Inkaterra is one of the restaurants of Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo and the one for visitors not staying at the hotel. The restaurant, located next to Machu Picchu train station, blends Andean food with contemporary cuisine. Cafe Inkaterra is situated under a traditional Amazonian palm-thatched roof and is decorated with local crafts. The decoration transmits the fusion of the two elements given in this place: Andean, Inca architecture legacy in the cloud forest. Return by train from Aguas Calientes to Ollanta. From Ollanta you will be transferred to your hotel in Cusco. Dinner at Calle del Medio. The menu features contemporary Peruvian cuisine made with local ingredients while the atmosphere vibes a casual chic ambiance. Designed by the renowned architect Jordi Puig, Calle del Medio, has an unbeatable location with views of Cusco's main square and the cathedral. Day 6 Cusco - Santiago (B) Today you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the airport of Cusco for today´s flight to Santiago. . The so-called 'Paris of South America' combines the atmosphere of a former European town with the features of a Latin American capital. Our guide will pick out some of the city's highlights such as Plaza de Mayo, Casa Rosada; Caminito and Recoleta with its cemetery to illustrate the history of Argentina. Moving on to San Telmo, the oldest district in the city, you will walk along ancient cobblestone streets, admiring old colonial houses, churches and famous antique shops and ateliers. You will confirm that no area in the city evokes the old Porteno spirit as the artists' quarter of San Telmo. Lunch at La Parolaccia Trattoria. This popular Italian eatery serves modern Argentinean dishes, home-made pastas and veggie options in different outlets of the chain spread across the city. (transfers with English speaking guide included) Dinner at Café de los Angelitos. Tonight, take part in a can’t miss Buenos Aires tradition – a night out at the tango! Enjoy a three-course dinner at ‘Café de los Angelitos’ - an intimate tango house completes with romantic Parisian architecture and a traditional dining hall. But ‘Angelitos’ also offers one of the best shows in town. Performers in top-notch costumes wow audiences with spectacular athletic leaps, high kicks and dramatic pirouettes backed by an eight-piece orchestra. This converted theater space is well set up and everyone gets a good view (white & red wine as well as still & sparkling water are included). Day 24 Puerto Iguaza (B/L/D) Today you head towards the Argentine side of Iguazu National Park for a day tour. Most of the falls (approx. 80%) are on this side of the park covering an area 550 km². Enjoy a walk along the upper and lower trails. The lower circuit (1400m) has balconies with marvellous bottom-up views of the falls (the same falls that you see from above in the upper circuit). The superior circuit is about 650 m long with low degree of difficulty. This trail has six viewpoints with panoramic views of the falls. Between the two circuits you will find the station to board the ecological train to reach the final station The Devil's Throat. At this point a bridge (2200 m roundtrip) leads out over the Iguazu River and small islands ending at the mighty Devil's Throat. The Devil’s Throat is 150 m (490 ft) wide and the tallest of all the falls having a height of 82 m (270 ft). The bridge goes right out to the head of the falls, so be prepared for plenty of spray. * The upper circuit has a low degree of difficulty and ramps making it suitable for handicapped visitors. The lower circuit requires more physical effort due to its stairs. If you have any physical impairment, we recommend avoiding the last section of this circuit. Lunch at Fortín Cataratas. The restaurant is conveniently located at the junction of the upper and lower trails in Iguazu National Park (Argentine side). The buffet includes both international and local dishes, but the meat that comes from the grill ‘Asado’ is definitely the buffet’s most preferred option. Dinner at Mercure Iguazú - Hotel Irû. Day 25 Puerto Iguazu - Rio De Janeiro (B/L/D) Half-day tour to the Brazilian side of the Iguazu National Park. You wander along the 'Cataratas trail' (distance 1.5 km/1 mile) and enjoy panoramic views of the falls, one of the more beautiful natural landmarks in all of South America. At the end of the trail a catwalk provides breath-taking views of the tallest waterfall, the 'Devils' Throat'. The tour ends at the top of the falls accessed through a panoramic elevator. Lunch at Porto Canoas. Enjoy a buffet lunch from the restaurant’s terrace with views of the Iguazu River and the waterfalls in the distance. The city is divided into a north zone and a south zone by the Serra da Carioca, steep mountains that are part of the Parque Nacional da Tijuca. These mountains descend to the edge of the city center, where both zones meet. Corcovado Christ statue on one of these mountain peaks, offers the best way to become familiar with the city's geography - from there you have views of both zones. The statue Christ the Redeemer with its outstretched arms is after the Sugar Loaf the most famous sight of the city and a favourite motive on Rio's postcards. After lunch at La Mineira Humaita (included) enjoy a sightseeing ride along Rios famous beaches Ipanema and Copacabana before taking a cable car to the top of the Sugar Loaf Mountain where you can get prime views from the city, Baia de Guanabara and the winding coastline.
