BUZZ NEXTGEN AI SERIES INDICES US Sentiment Leaders - April 2020 Monthly Index Rebalance STOCK SPOTLIGHT Work From Home After experiencing one of the most volatile months in the history of the stock markets, it was no surprise this month to see the BUZZ Index go through some big changes. Stocks which saw the biggest increase in investor sentiment were predominantly defensive COVID-19 names. Zoom Video (NASDAQ: ZM), makers of the extremely popular cloud meeting software, had a large jump in sentiment, pushing it into the Index with a 2.35% weight. Other “work from home” names such as Docusign (NASDAQ: DOCU), the online signature service, and Teladoc (NYSE: TDOC), which provides online medical consultations and prescriptions likewise saw big increase in investor sentiment. However, the biggest change to the Index this month was in the number one weighted name, which had been dominated by Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) for many months. This month, the top spot belongs to Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ: GILD), as the company’s drug Remdesivir has shown promise of potentially being able to treat COVID-19. Transportation Stocks As investors flocked to the defensive stocks amid the market panic last month, it was interesting to see large investor sentiment jumps in two extremely beaten down names, Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Carnival Cruises (NYSE: CCL). Undoubtedly one of the sectors hit the hardest by COVID-19 has been the transportation sector, specifically airlines and cruises, as people are locked down at home. Over the last 2 months, BA stock dropped as much as 70%, and CCL plummeted over 80%. The declines have been so severe that value-oriented investors have begun to turn positive on the names, even amid the crisis. They may be betting on support from the government or the fact that these once-giants will recover in the long run after the crisis is over. Regardless the reason, sentiment is telling us that investors believe these stocks are too cheap to pass up, and could soon be due for a large relief rally.
