At last! By the time this newsletter hits your mailbox, OneCoast's first storage
container should be on site at the Transfer Station. To celebrate we will hold an
"Open Container" viewing at 2pm on Easter Sunday. You can come and look at
our lovely space, which will no doubt soon be filled with offerings, and help us
erect the shelving which has been so generously donated by both Bunnings and
Mitre 10. Please note that at this stage we will not be selling goods until we
have built up our resources and have a rostered group of trained volunteers
ready to undertake the different tasks involved in running a re-use store. Also at
this stage we will not be able to be on site all the hours that the Transfer Station
is open. They will still be operating their "free-cycle" Rural Rummage Shed so

Have you seen the water supply petition for residents of Waikouaiti,
Karitane and Hawksbury Village around town? It is clear that there is a
lot of dissatisfaction with our drinking water supply. This petition will
provide an indication of community preference for water to be supplied
from the DCC Mt Grand reservoir (Dunedin supply) rather than from the
                                     Waikouaiti River.
At the public meeting on 10 March 2021, our questions were mostly
answered but at no stage have we been asked about our preferences

opportunity for change but that was not evident at the meeting.

                           WAIKOUAITI EMERGENCY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Most communities have a Civil Defence Centre or community hub, where locals can come together during and after an
emergency to support each other. In an emergency, centres will be opened and run by communities so people can
come together to help their community during and after an emergency.
New Zealand Response Teams work alongside and support civil defence, emergency services and other responding
agencies. Teams are located throughout New Zealand, and we have one in Karitane and one in Waikouaiti already
established. Our Community Response Team maintain a database of people who are happy to be contacted for
assistance in the event of an emergency. We're looking for volunteers to fulfill a range of roles during emergencies,
including: - Community Coordination - Welfare - Logistics - Practical Tasks - and much more
Devoting your time to volunteering during an emergency can be both rewarding and challenging. If this sounds like
something you, or someone you know, can help with, or if you simply want more information, please fill in the volunteer
sign up form in this newsletter issue.

                WAIKOUAITI BOWLING CLUB
Our outdoor bowling season at the club finishes this month on
Thursday 8th April. Hopefully the weather will be good enough for us
to have a roll-up and we will bring a plate for afternoon tea. It’s been a
good season for us as our numbers have continued to grow and the
club is thriving. We have now played the last of our club Ties
including the Mixed Pairs which were won by Mick Bird and Wendy
MacLeod. There remains only the Drawing Button which is an
enjoyable fun competition usually played on our last day.

Last year in the ‘off’ season a considerable amount of work was
carried out on and around the green by our dedicated greenkeeper
and several willing helpers all of whom generously donated their time from POWA
to this task. The other part of this process is planned for the coming
months.

Although we won’t be playing again until September, we will still have
our monthly meeting in May and our Annual General Meeting in June.
