McElrea Finishes on High Millar McElrea has just finished a stella athletics season at the Interprovincial Grade 12 and 13 meet at Christchurch over Easter. Competitors from across New Zealand gathered to test their skills against their peers. Millar named team captain for his Otago team of 35 plus athletes competed in four events over two days. Millar has been going from strength to strength this athletics season and finished on a high literally this season. Millar placed first in the 13 boys High Jump breaking the Otago record, in doing so jumping 1.75m. Keeping his cool and in the zone Millar outclassed his opposition jumping 1.75m on his first try at this height. This adds to his Otago Long Jump record he secured earlier in the season. Millar placed 4th in the Long Jump and 7th in both the 400m and 800m. The event is a team event where athletes are awarded points similar to the decathlon. Millar placed third overall on points for the 13 year old boys and third overall for the whole meet. Otago placed 7th in the event out of 12 provinces. Milton Garden Club On Monday 8 April members travelled to Balclutha. The community Garden was the first stop for the day. With twenty plus garden beds planted out in potatoes, carrots, lettuce, cabbages, brocolli, pumpkins, herbs and tomatoes. This is a real asset to the town. The next visit was to the Wake Robin nursery and garden. This is a very interesting garden to visit and a nursery full of many unusual plants, most of us came away with a treasure or two. A leisurely lunch at Cafe 55 was enjoyed by all. A Warehouse visit saw a few more plants in the van then it was on to Garvan. We had a lovely look around the grounds there. With magnificent old trees and shrubs it all makes this a delightful place to visit. I think we all enjoyed our leisurely and interesting day out. Raffle winners- Isobel Robinson and Trevor Hight.
