PIV IMAGING TREND REPORT MULTICOPTERS CONTINUE ON AN UPDRAFT Current Market Development According to the Imaging Association (PIV), multicopters (popularly known as „photo drones“) are still in vogue. According to Tractica, the number of multicopters sold worldwide is set to increase more than 10-fold to $ 67.9 million between 2015 and 2021. Legal certainty has had a positive effect on the market. The Drone Ordinance of 2017 created security through a standardized national framework and simplified the conditions for professional copter pilots. An EU regulation will ensure European standardization in 2018. The market segments for private and commercial use are becoming increasingly separated. In the meantime, the activation of special functions is only being offered to commercial users. According to the Federal Association of Copter Pilots (BVCP), this is due to illustrative photo and video recordings for marketing purposes in addition to surveying, construction documentation and technical inspection, which play an important role. Special cameras with thermal imaging or gas leak functions, expand the range of applications. Innovations • Dynamic technical advances: increasing image q uality thanks to higher resolution and 4K image capture in an increasingly compact housing. • Additional modes such as „selfie“ and „dronie“ (self-portrait short video) as well as obstacle detection simplify the operation for private users. • The convenient control via smartphones makes separate remote controls superfluous. Gestures from a hand or arm make steering even easier. Lifting a hand, for example, makes the copter fly higher, whereas a downward movement initiates descent. • Autonomous flying and recording with the help of AI: dynamic target tracking is now possible through image recognition. Outlook / Forecast Growth is expected in both B2B and B2C, more likely in the commercial sector. The increasing simplification in operations is made possible through AI, especially with regard to tracking people and objects. In combination with more compact, low-cost housings, the attractiveness of multicopter photography is increasing. Improvement in airport security and other security areas is to be expected. Economies of scale can also reduce the cost of production for multicopters when larger volume delivery copters are used and production runs in higher volumes. Flight time, which is still less than 30 minutes in the amateur sector, offers a potential area for development as well as the volume. 16.08.2018 © Photoindustrie-Verband e.V. ∙ Mainzer Landstraße 55 ∙ 60329 Frankfurt am Main ∙ presse@piv-imaging.com ∙ www.piv-imaging.com

Also content, which goes live “on the air” is becoming increasingly popular: the streaming market will develop rapidly in the coming years. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is simplifying and accelerating video production clearly and fueling the number of videos. The trend towards 4K and the time benefits of crop flexibility encourages video producers to film with higher resolutions. This means that many of them must purchase new equipment. An additional trend theme is the increasingly cheaper professional video conferencing technology including services which saves time and money through a decrease in traveling. 8K is already recognizable on the horizon and will be available in the medium term to provide further growth impulses because it will offer more quality and flexibility in cropping. 19.7.2018∙ ©Photoindustrie-Verband (PIV) ∙ Mainzer Landstraße 55 ∙ 60329 Frankfurt am Main ∙ info@piv-imaging.com ∙ www.piv-imaging.com
PIV IMAGING TREND REPORT THE MARKET FOR PHOTO SERVICES IS BOOMING Current market development After successfully digitizing, the photo services market has entered a new decade called Smart Imaging, according to PIV. The photo book business is developing steadily. Photo merchandise is growing strongly – web orders and home deliveries are increasing 70,8% significantly. Additional market impetus comes from the explosive growth in photographing and presenting images on smartphones. Through connectivity and as a touch point for imaging services they continue to gain in importance as the direct source of images. The younger generation is currently fueling these positive market impulses. They increasingly enjoy their haptic picture experiences. User requests for even more intuitive and smarter of all photo merchandise orders are „web-to-home“, user experience require new services, such as those which will be ordered from a computer or smartphone presented at photokina (26 to 29 September 2018) in Cologne. and delivered to the home. Forecast / Predictions Video technology for the security sector will remain a growth market in the long term. Network camera sales alone are expected to exceed US$ 3 billion by 2020, representing an annual growth rate of 9.7 percent (Markets and Markets). The development focus is on further improving video analytics using AI algorithms. In the process, image pattern recognition is increasingly shifting to the cloud. This creates a platform that will establish safety cameras even more as an optic nerve for the web-based automation of building technology. As a result, a high level of cybersecurity is becoming a feature that enables providers to secure their customers‘ trust and differentiate themselves from the competition. ∙ ©Photoindustrie-Verband (PIV) ∙ Mainzer Landstraße 55 ∙ 60329 Frankfurt am Main ∙ info@piv-imaging.com ∙ www.piv-imaging.com 14.06.2018
PIV IMAGING TREND REPORT THE CLOUD IS BECOMING INTELLIGENT Current Market Development The cloud’s importance for data storage and processing will continue to rise in the next few years, according to PIV. Forrester Research expects an average annual growth rate of 22 percent for the overall market. A volume of $236 billion is forecast for 2020. This is not surprising con- 27% sidering the many benefits of professionally managed clouds, which are always up-to-date in terms of technology and data protection. Each in billions of dollars * Forecast Forrester Research SOURCE: FORRESTER RESEARCH View/Forecast Intelligent additional services will provide a further obvious push for cloud services: AI currently represents just 1 percent of the cloud market, ACCA predicts a growth rate of 52 percent. As early as 2025, 10 percent of cloud revenue is expected to be generated by AI. Experts predict an intensive market penetration, because the benefits for consumers are both evident and numerous. Data protection concerns, reservations about AI and the lack of broad- band deployment in Germany could delay development in this country. The spread of the Internet of Things is expected to bring further growth momentum to the cloud. Once quantum computers are available, a quantum leap in Artificial Intelligence is expected. 7.5.2018 ∙ © Photoindustrie-Verband (PIV) ∙ Mainzer Landstraße 55 ∙ 60329 Frankfurt am Main ∙ info@piv-imaging.com ∙ www.piv-imaging.com
