“Painting Where the Wild Things Are” Welcome to the 4th Annual “Painting Where the Wild Things Are” Art Exhibit, the first part of a three-part event that includes a Gala Reception and Auction and a Plein Air Event to benefit the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. Artists entered paintings, sculpture, and ceramic works of the American River Parkway, and the wild things found there, to this open, juried art show at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center. Artists entered up to three art works. Not all artists had work accepted. All art work is for sale at the Auction and Gala. If you wish to purchase one at this exhibit you may pay a “Buy it Now” price of 150% of stated price. One half or more of the sale price benefits American River Natural History Association who operates the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. The juror for acceptance and awards was Maria Winkler. Second Saturday Reception is May 11, 2013. At the close of show, all unsold paintings will be moved to the Effie Yeaw Nature Center and displayed for the Gala and Auction, June 8, 2013, 5-8 PM. All the paintings will be be sold at live and silent auctions during the Gala at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. The third part will be a Plein Aire Paint, Show and Sell Event. Artists will paint beginning at 9 am. They will paint in the nature preserve and in Hoffman Park until 1pm, at which time the artists will prepare work to be displayed at the Gala to be offered for sale, one half of which benefit EYNC. The Effie Yeaw Nature Center has been operating since June of 2010 without County funding. This event is a major fund raiser for the Nature Center. A purchase from this exhibit or at the Gala will directly support ARNHA which now operates the Effie Yeaw Nature Center, as well as the artist. Contact the office to make a purchase. Judges Statement I am grateful for the invitation to participate and judge the work in this year's "Painting Where the Wild Things Are". The volume of work that was brought to the Sacramento Fine Arts Center is inspiring. It is a reflection of our growing, healthy and active arts community. I was impressed with the range of works submitted for the show; it's good to see many artists pursuing diverse directions. It was difficult choosing a final selection from 142 works representing different media. I tried to select works that went beyond good composition, competence and skill, but that also exhibited original content and personal interpretation. For those whose work was not selected this year, I apologize for any disappointment. Whether selected or not, we hope you are ready to come celebrate with us at the opening reception, 2nd Saturday Reception on May 11, 2013, 5:30-8:30pm, at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center. This art show is a preview of the Gala and Art Auction to be held at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center on June 8, 2013.
