MENS HEALTH IT has never been more important than now to start taking care of your health. Putting health concerns on the back burner and avoiding going to your GP can be deadly in the long run. THE FUTURE We understand that everyone can do better sustainability-wise, and it is a continuous journey not a destination. Although we have some great sustainability efforts already REDWOOD BRANCH implemented, we are always looking to the future to plan ways that we can improve. ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY CONTINUED OUR SUPPLIERS & THEIR SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO US THAT OUR SUPPLIERS UPHOLD THE SAME VALUES AND STANDARDS AS WE DO. BY BUILDING CLOSE RELATIONSHIPS WITH ALL OUR SUPPLIERS WE CAN CONTINUALLY ENSURE THAT THEY ARE MAKING THE SAME EFFORTS TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY AS WE ARE. Through their sustainability efforts Phillips is aiming to improve the lives of 3 billion people worldwide by 2030. Currently, they have set a goal to use 75% renewable energy in their operations by 2025 and continue their zero- emissions policy. By investing in clean energy sources such as wind farms, Philips has been able to offset a lot of the waste they produce during their operations. Their goal is to embed circular practices across all their sites worldwide to become waste free by 2025. Vynco has taken great strides towards becoming a more sustainable company. Single-use packaging is a big contributor to landfills, so Vynco has decided to change the way they do things. They have implemented new eco-friendly packaging including paper courier bags, pulp packaging, and the new “tea-slip” bags. The “tea-slip” bags are used to replace plastic vacuum-sealed bags, but still protect the products from any damage. While the pulp packaging replaces any plastic-coated cardboard that would’ve been used in the past. Schneider is internationally renowned for their sustainability efforts. They were recently ranked number 1 in the Global 100 index of sustainable businesses, rising from 29th last year. They have an in-depth long-term plan in place to cover all areas of sustainability from climate to equality. As New Zealand’s top electrical cable supplier Nexans implementing green initiatives is a vital part of creating a sustainable supply chain. Currently, they are in the final stages of launching their new Green Drum program. The program includes working with wooden cable drum manufacturers to ensure that the wood the drums are built from is sourced from sustainable forestry. This will coincide with their barrel recycling program which is already in action. Nexans collect any barrels that are damaged or no longer in rotation and send them to a local business in New Plymouth (where they are based) to be turned into wood chips for animal enclosures or gardens. Their production process also requires a large amount of water usage for cooling purposes. To counteract this, they have installed water catchment systems on top of some of their factories to collect the copious amounts of Taranaki rainwater. This allows them to take less water from the town’s water supply, instead opting to use what they have gathered in their production process. They aim to install more catchments on their remaining buildings soon to further increase their sustainability efforts. 14 | REDPATHS.CO.NZ | FEBRUARY-MARCH 2022
DIY RE-PURPOSED Re-purposing materials like WOOD PALLETS wooden pallets is a terrific way to add new features to your home and garden in a sustainable way. You do not always have to spend the big bucks to add cool new décor to your space. PALLET FURNITURE The possibilities are endless when it comes to pallet furniture. Whether your taste is rugged and natural, or something more polished you can easily convert wooden pallets to match. You can find some great ideas on websites like Pinterest to revamp your space in a sustainable way. SOME OF OUR FAVOURITES ARE: - Coffee Tables - Suspended swings - Headboards & Bed Bases - Bookshelves PALLET PLANTERS The most common use for recycled wood pallets is planter boxes. A relatively straightforward process that results in a great space for your plants. There are plenty of tutorials online but all you will need is x2 pallets, wood stain, hammer & nails, measuring tape, a saw, & a staple gun if you are attaching a lining. PALLET POT PLANT WALLS Indoor or outdoor plant walls are an excellent feature to bring more greenery to your space. You can make the project as easy or complex as you like depending on the result that you are trying to achieve. Standing the pallet upright and attaching pot brackets is pretty much the bulk of the process. Get creative with it and adapt it your plant's needs. FEBRUARY-MARCH 2022 | REDPATHS.CO.NZ | 15
