This Week in Our World… This week the focus of ‘Our World’ is the Chinese Space Rocket that exploded as it returned to Earth. Parts of the Chinese rocket have plummeted back to Earth, landing in the Indian Ocean near the Maldives.
Chinese Rocket The story so far… The Tianhe module - which means 'heavenly harmony' - blasted off from Hainan, in southern China last month. It is also known as the Long March-5b and was the first of 11 missions into space to create China's permanent space station. The country hopes to have it completed by the end of 2022. The rocket was unmanned so did not have any people onboard.
Chinese Rocket What happened? The rocket's debris re-entered the atmosphere at 10:24 Beijing time (02:24 GMT) on Sunday 9 May according to Chinese state-run media, and the majority of the rocket's remains were destroyed when they re-entered the Earth's atmosphere. At 18 tonnes - the weight of three African bush elephants - it is one of the largest items in years to dive back into the atmosphere without control.
Chinese Rocket What happened? US and European tracking sites had been monitoring the uncontrolled fall of the Long March-5b vehicle and predicted it would burn up when it made its final plunge through the atmosphere. However, there was always a possibility that metals with high melting points, and other materials, could survive to reach the Earth's surface. Fortunately, none of the debris landed on land and no one was injured or hurt.

The International Day of Families is a UN day to remember the importance of families to people all over the world.
Articles of the Week Articles 9 and 20 Article 9: Separation from parents All children have the right to live with a family who cares for them. A child or young person must not be separated from their parents unless it is in their best interests (for example if a parent is hurting or neglecting a child). Children whose parents have separated have the right to stay in contact with both parents unless this could cause them harm.
Articles of the Week Articles 9 and 20 Article 20: Children unable to live with their family If a child or young person cannot be looked after by their immediate family the government must give them special protection and assistance. This includes making sure the child is provided with alternative care that is continuous and respects the child’s culture, language and religion. Activity: Draw around your hand. On each finger write one thing you have learned from or love about your parents or carers.
