OTWorld 2018: new products for healthy feet
Trade show for innovations in the sector showcases new international
products and innovative technology for orthopaedic footwear technology

3D printed inserts, new technology for gait analysis, fashionable therapeutic
shoes or innovative equipment for workshops – multiple new products for
orthopaedic footwear technology are showcased between May 15th and 18th
2018 at OTWorld. Once more the International Trade Show and World
Congress provide comprehensive and unique insights in all segments of
orthopaedic footwear technology and adjoining areas.

All information is based on details provided by the manufacturers. Leipziger Messe
accepts no liability for the functional adequacy or safety of the products described.
All photos are the property of the manufacturers and may be used only in
connection with media reports relating to news of the manufacturer concerned; the
manufacturer's name should be mentioned in the credits at all times. Where there is
a requirement to include additional information, this will be indicated in each
individual case.

AFT International GmbH:
MAS 900 – clean air with new extraction technology

AFT (Wuppertal – Germany) will be exhibiting their latest development
in relation to centralised air-extraction technology at OTWorld – the
MAS 900. With it, the company completes their line in extraction units,
which is already well known throughout the sector. A new drawer unit
for two-metre-long sheet materials will also be on display. Moreover,
with their Highflex and Elastoflex, AFT now have two extremely
resilient EVA materials in their range, which are highly resilient and
quick to return to their original shape. They are particularly
appropriate for intermediate soles or covering material; or they can be
used in blanks that can then be milled and shaped to fit.

Bauerfeind AG:
Cushioning diabetes inserts, therapeutic compression and slender braces

Bauerfeind (Zeulenroda-Triebes, Germany) will be coming to
OTWorld with a whole array of new products. The new Ergopad
Soft Diabetes Insert offers long-lasting protection for sensitive
feet. It ensures an indication-driven cushioning of the foot for
diabetes sufferers in risk classes 0 to II. The multi-layered, long-
soled soft-cushioned construction, with various grades of
firmness, guarantees a cushioning effect tailored to the
individual. Thanks to its excellent ability to remould and regain its
shape, the visco-elastic soft memory foam, Vepur, continues to
absorb shocks and stresses for a particularly long time.

For patients in DFS risk classes II to VII, Bauerfeind have also
included the ErgoPad ID:Diabetes in their range, a malleable insert
capable of providing cushioning for the foot that is especially
suitable for diabetic conditions. Here too, a multi-layered, long-
soled, soft cushioning construction with Vepur helps absorb the
load, distribute the pressure evenly and relieve individual pressure
points. Web-based technology serves to establish the exact shape
of the insert, using a Bodytronic ID:CAM, and a specially
developed algorithm is brought to bear, to ensure an ideal
pressure distribution. The orthopaedic footwear technician can
then individually select the requisite densities of soft cushioning,
together with layers of different degrees of hardness, for the
specific requirements of the case in hand.

With the VenoTrain cocoon, Bauerfeind are also bringing out a
medical compression stocking with integrated skin-care agents.
The lipophilic compound strengthens the protective barrier
provided by the cornified layer of the skin. As a result, it protects
the dry, sensitive skin of the wearer from flaking and itching and
the treatment maintains the natural balance of moisture in the
skin. The company is the first manufacturer to use an innovative
fibre composed of cotton and cellulose for the knitted fabric.
Because cellulose is a natural material that has a matrix-like
structure with naturally occurring voids, it is good for storing the skincare product.
Accordingly, the cellulose element in the fibre is impregnated with the lipophilic care
compounds and the fibre is integrated on the inner surface of the stocking, thus
providing maximum contact with the skin. VenoTrain cocoon is available as opaque
knee-length hosiery, compression class 2, for both men and women, and can be
obtained in red, blue, black and silk.

For the first time, Bauerfeind will, moreover, be
introducing wholesalers, retailers and technicians to
their new slim-fit ankle braces: the MalleoLoc L and
MalleoLoc L3 complete the range of treatments for
OTWorld 2018: new products for healthy feet
functional instability. They protect the foot from turning over suddenly in everyday
movement, whilst, at the same time, combatting excessive supination and forward
movement of the talus. The special feature of these orthoses is that they provide
lateral stabilisation by means of an L-shaped moulding with fixing straps, designed
to adapt to the anatomical features of the wearer. The brace is designed to stabilise
the joint from one side, and this permits very flat contours and a slim fit. Thus, these
orthoses can be worn inside sports shoes and business wear alike.

Modell MalleoLoc L also has provision for a small plantar pad to be attached with
Velcro, intended to stimulate the muscles that help lift the foot, as well as providing
positive support for the ankle. MalleoLoc L3, in turn, combines an L-shaped
moulding and straps with a compression bandage, that encourages activation of the
muscles. This can be removed progressively, thus providing variable stabilisation for
various levels of therapy, as well as for patients with chronic pathologies.

carelogic GmbH:
cashOne cash-register system – perfect for the awinta AT1 terminal

Specialists in process automation and sector-specific
software, carelogic (Emmering, Germany), will be
presenting their cashOne cash-register system at OTWorld.
As the first and only supplier in the sector, the company
has optimised its software perfectly for the awinta AT1
terminal. AT1 is the most usual terminal to be used in
pharmacies and chemist’s shops. The combination of the
two systems makes handling decidedly easier at the point of sale: it is only
necessary to pass the paper through the machine once either to scan or to print
prescriptions. Moreover, the till receipt printer and the customer terminal are also
integrated into the multi-functional cash-register system.
OTWorld 2018: new products for healthy feet
The cash-register software is complemented by products such as dokuFlow. This
mobile tool allows field sales staff to process and exchange documents – so as to
facilitate seamless internal communications within the company.

FLEXOR footbeds & pads:
Extremely thin Resiflex kits from FLEXOR

The Spanish company, FLEXOR (Barcelona, Spain)
are introducing some brand-new Resiflex kits, with
soles and pads for individual orthopaedic inserts,
shaped in a heat process. These inserts are
extremely thin and suitable for almost any kind of
shoe. They have been designed to treat commonly
occurring pathologies in a cost-effective manner.
They come with latex-gel pads that have been
developed so as to save fitting time with the patient.

As an alternative to the usual hardness levels in grey and green, not to mention the
more established red version, FLEXOR have now added a very new, softer line of
salmon-coloured latex pads to the range, which offer additional cushioning if
needed.

And finally, FLEXOR are introducing a home-grown, digital analytical system, that is
supported by a digital footprint platform and a 3-D scanner.
OTWorld 2018: new products for healthy feet
FLEXOR heads a small group of companies, who, since 1963, have devoted
themselves to the development of concepts and solutions for soles and components
to be used in orthopaedic inserts. Their products are exported all over the world.

Future-Shape GmbH:
Mobile or on site – convenient gait assessment with SensFloor® Gait

                                                         In their SensFloor® Gait,
                                                         Future-Shape (Höhenkirchen-
                                                         Siegertsbrunn, Germany)
                                                         have developed a simple and
                                                         cost-effective measurement
                                                         system for assessing a
                                                         patient’s gait. In contrast to
other methods, the measurements are taken completely unnoticed by the patient. As
a result, they relax and walk with their characteristic gait pattern. Hidden in the floor
are sensors that measure the steps and calculate the body’s centre of gravity.
Seconds later the gait pattern has been processed and appears in visual form on
the computer screen.

With the help of the gait pattern, specialists in rehabilitation, neurological conditions
and/or geriatrics can assess and document the degree of impairment that has
resulted from the relevant illness. Then, in the course of treatment, changes in
symmetry and lateral stability can be established. That way, for instance, the effects
of physiotherapy or medication can be quantified and assessed.

SensFloor® Gait is available both as a fixed installation and – very recently – in a
mobile version.

GANTER Shoes GmbH:
GANTER AKTIV – relaxation and stimulation

The new GANTER AKTIV shoes from the GANTER company
(Taufkirchen/Pram, Austria) create their beneficial effect with
specially designed pressure points to provide stimulation to
the body. The shoe is constructed so as to recreate a natural
walking motion. It provides relief for both back and joints,
improves posture and tones muscles. The attractive design
and the removable cushion sole mean that the shoe can be
used to treat a variety of conditions.

go-tec GmbH:
Trying shoes on before the last is made: 3D printing for orthopaedic footwear
technology

Go-tec GmbH (Münster, Germany) will be providing details at
OTWorld of their completely digital manufacturing process for
orthopaedic footwear technology – including 3D printing. To
start with, measurements are taken with the help of a 3D
scanner and the shoe last is then designed in the CAD
programme, including all corrective features. That way the shoe
can be ‘tried on’ before the last is made – quite the reverse of
                    the procedure used hitherto.

An integrated onboard slicer makes for a user-friendly,
automated printing process. The slicer, which is essential
software for 3D printing, splits 3D objects into numerous thin
slices, which are then printed layer by layer. Integrated dryers
ensure continuity and stability in the printing with a consistent
end result. This is monitored via a smartphone. When the
product is ready, an email message is sent.

To make trial shoes and lasts, a specially developed material is used. This material
has properties that make it particularly easy to bend, shape and stick. The trial shoe
is almost transparent. Manufacturing the trial shoe before making the last saves
time. The GP manager stores the individual steps all together and collates the
customer’s data. The company’s motto is: ‘One-stop guarantee – including
materials’.

HEIKAUS Interior GmbH:
Room concepts for healthcare institutions

Heikaus (Mundelsheim, Germany) have applied modern
approaches to furnishings and equipment, in order to
optimise work flows in healthcare institutions. The aim is,
moreover, to improve efficiency. Rehab centres,
healthcare supplies retailers and surgical stores, as well
as orthopaedic technicians and orthopaedic footwear
technicians are provided with contemporary sales and
consultation rooms in which both customers and staff feel comfortable. In their
designs, Heikaus take their cue both from the locality and physical space they are
given to work with and from the requirements of the particular sector involved.

Invent Medical Group s.r.o.:
Orthotic and prosthetic products from the 3D printer

The high-tech start-up, Invent Medical (Ostrava, Czech
Republic) will be presenting 3D-printed orthotic and
prosthetic products at OTWorld – such as, for instance,
inserts tailored to the needs of individual customers,
cranial orthoses for helmet therapy and dynamic lower-
                           leg braces.

The design process is based on interactive online configuration software. This
enables every orthopaedic technician to record digital data (2D & 3D scans) and to
design a medical aid in just a few minutes, ready for the 3D printer. And this can be
done without any knowledge of CAD software relating to orthotics and prosthetics.

The advantage of the solution offered by Invent Medical lies in its advanced
algorithms, which automatically process the data that has been entered and prepare
the preliminary design for a tailor-made orthosis. This design can then be validated
and subsequently manufactured using a 3D printer.

Klaveness Footwear AS:
Klaveness Ice Sole protects against falls in winter

Every winter, there are significant risks in Scandinavia of
slipping on the ice and snow. This results in 300,000 people
ending up in hospital as a result of a fall. One well-known
solution is to wear shoe spikes or snow chains specially
designed for footwear. These are, however, not allowed in
shops, as the spikes damage the flooring. As a result, the
Norwegian company Klaveness (Sandefjord, Norway), in
collaboration with Nsize, have researched and developed a
patented reversible-spike sole, which can be hooked under the
sole of the shoe and fastened at the back. This makes it a
simple matter to swap between spikes and normal soles
without the need for any tools.

The new Klaveness Ice Sole will be on show at OTWorld. It can be adapted for
individual orders and to suit various styles.

Neskrid 4Allfeet b.v.:
Made-to-measure orthopaedic safety shoes for the workplace

From one-handed fastening to lighter, significantly
broader toecaps and new colour combinations:
NESKRID 4AllFeet (Alphen, Netherlands) will be coming
to OTWorld with a range of new products in the field of
made-to-measure, orthopaedic safety work shoes. This
is the first time that the company has been represented
as an exhibitor. They will be presenting some extremely
lightweight orthopaedic work shoes, amongst other things. Making the shoes to
measure reduces the weight of previously available models by about half. The
company is also adding a waterproof Sympatex lining to their range of linings for
diabetes sufferers.

New to their range of products are also some particularly lightweight moulded soles,
with a design based on blotting paper, as well as a coarse, non-slip design for soles
that are built up by hand. In accordance with their individual orthopaedic, anatomical
and biomechanical condition and in line with the current EU guidelines, orthopaedic
shoemakers are thus able to kit their patients out for their respective jobs. The range
is completed with a line of off-the-shelf, semi-orthopaedic shoes. A new addition,
here, is a transparent shoe, which is supposed to help the orthopaedic shoemaker
with the choice of fitting. And, last but not least, there will be a new and simplified
online ordering system on display at the show.

novel GmbH:
loadsol® – the mobile loading sensor

The loadsol® load-measurement sole from novel
(Munich, Germany) returns precise details of the normal
plantar forces at work between foot and shoe, both
standing and in free movement. And it will do so,
irrespective of which part of the foot is bearing the load.
Sensitivity at the foot is not affected. The load-
measurement sole that is to be presented at OTWorld
uses sensors that cover the entire surface of the foot. A
system of miniaturised electronics records the data and transmits it to a smartphone.

The loadsol® app that goes with it provides direct bio-feedback for the forces acting
on the foot. By taking measurements over a period of time, any instability can be
assessed, together with data indicating whether or not prescribed load limits are
being adhered to, as would be the case after an operation, for instance.

The app has been developed - in collaboration with a number of large rehab
centres - for use in rehabilitation procedures. It allows various individual gait
OTWorld 2018: new products for healthy feet
parameters to be assessed and facilitates the transfer of the data to a PC or hospital
server. The data can then be examined and assessed in more detail using the
loadpad® analytical software for PC.

The loadsol® sole is especially suitable for applications where the important thing is
the total load that is exerted on the foot and joints and not the local load distribution.

OrthoTECH GmbH:
Orthotech Aktiv-Plus for diabetes and rheumatism sufferers

The new Orthotech Aktiv-Plus, which Orthotech
                              (Gauting-Stockdorf, Germany) are exhibiting at
OTWorld, meets all the requirements of a prophylactic
shoe. The sport and leisure shoe is designed for
patients with diabetes or rheumatism. The larger volume
at the front of the shoe protects against pressure points
whilst, at the same time, offering the necessary grip and
support for the loads generated in sporting activities. Its construction relies on high-
quality materials and the consistent avoidance of seams. Inner and outer soles
encourage correct foot roll-off, so as to protect joints. The aim of this type of
prophylactic shoe is, for instance, to avoid pressure points for diabetes sufferers and
to prevent consequent damage, such as diabetic foot syndrome.

ideas at once on the Perpedes stand (Kirchheim/Teck,
Germany), at this year’s OTWorld. Their latest ranges of
therapeutic shoes, for instance, go by the names of
Lissabon light, Modena light and Ravenna light.
Altogether, the company has twelve new products in its
current portfolio, from airy sandals for hot summer days
to colourful, lightweight trainers.

Equally, the third generation of the comfortable UXGO Hallux Valgus
Sneaker now appears in an updated, fashionable design. The
possibility of customising the various composite fibre materials with
individual motifs or logos makes for a product that strikes a more
                personal note.

Solor GmbH:
High-quality sockets and basic components for orthopaedic shoemakers

The new ‘Raffael’ socket from Solor (Pirmasens, Germany)
combines suede leather and printed fabric. Thanks to the
possibility of individual printing of the material, there are hardly
any limits to artistic design. Because of the few seams it uses,
this model is particularly suitable for diabetics, as pressure
                      points are, therefore, avoided.

The socket is one of the 100 new developments of which the company will be
providing details in Leipzig. The Solor name stands for ‘reliable orthopaedics’; their
expertise lies in producing high-quality sockets. In addition, the company offers
everyone else the requisite basic components for individualised shoe manufacture.
Altogether, their current catalogue lists over 600 models of socket.

STEP-ON – European Orthopaedic Centre:
AFO ‘off the shelf’ with tailored functionality

These serially produced ankle and foot
orthoses with tailored functionality are on offer
at OTWorld from the European Orthopaedic
Centre (Athens, Greece), with their STEP-ON
brace. All these products belong to a range of
new-style AFOs for the treatment of patients
with weak dorsiflexion (also known as ‘drop foot
                                      syndrome’).

There are three Step-On AFO products.
The Step-On 100 LH afo is suitable for most cases of weak dorsiflexion. The Step-
On 100 MH afo has been developed for patients with non-correctable varus
deformity and a protruding outer ankle bone. The Step-On 200 DH afo is indicated
as a treatment for drop foot syndrome with excessive, correctable varus / valgus
deformity (supination / pronation) of the foot.

Amongst the characteristic features of these off-the-shelf AFOs is the adjustable
dorsiflexion support they give. Equally, they are, as the company point out,
extremely light in weight and are made of an exceptionally versatile polypropylene
that can be easily cut and shaped to fit by the clinician. Whilst allowing essential
movements during the gait cycle, the Step-On AFOs provide all the control that
individual patients need and will need in each of the various phases of their
rehabilitation programme. The degree of dorsiflexion can be easily adjusted with an
Allen key, which increases or decreases the spring tension in the hinge.

Streifeneder ortho.production GmbH:
Komet relief shoes and other highlights

                               Streifeneder ortho.production (Emmering, Munich,
Germany) have prepared a range of newly developed
orthotic and prosthetic products for OTWorld. One focus,
in the field of orthotics, is on the pressure relief shoe,
Komet. This therapeutic shoe is designed for the
outdoors and includes features such as an antibacterial

Moreover, the company have announced some groundbreaking innovations,
especially in the field of prosthetics. Nor are orthopaedic technicians ignored in the
mix: in the live workshop, the staff at the Streifeneder training centre, ortho.training,
will be providing practical tips and processing information.

T&T medilogic Medizintechnik GmbH:
Freely configurable: the NX configurable wifi-linked pressure measuring
plates from medilogic

With their NX wifi-linked pressure measuring plates, medilogic (Schoenefeld,
Germany) will be launching onto the market their first freely configurable model,
based on capacitive sensor technology. This new development enables users to
decide for themselves the size and disposition of the measuring plates. Each
individual plate is linked to what they call a ‘head’, where all the measurement data
are brought together and sent to a PC via wifi. Both static and dynamic
measurements of individual steps can be recorded.

The number of plates can be extended at any time as required, by means of a plug-
in system. Up to 25 plates can be arranged, so as to create a long pathway or a
surface to walk on. The system of plates on show in Leipzig, enables medilogic, for
the first time, to record a continuous series of steps for the purposes of gait analysis
and to come to conclusions about, for instance, the rhythm and stability of the gait
cycle. Amongst other things, the software offers the possibility of recording data for
individual steps, assessing the line of travel over time and calculating maximum and
mean pressure values, as well as measuring balance when standing.

Versoteq 3D-Solutions:
VersoCore by Versoteq 3D-Solutions – the future of 3D processing / finishing

Versoteq (Espoo, Finland) will be introducing at
OTWorld their new VersoCore online platform for
                               automatic 3D modelling. VersoCore prepare
models on the basis of 3D scan data. These can
then be printed in 3D or checked and revised in
virtual space. The basic functions include interfaces
for integration purposes, extrusion of the processed
3D data and the manual or automatic establishment of the cutting line. Functionality
can be extended, using the VersoCore ‘library’. With this platform, it is possible to
produce tailor-made medical products, based on specific biometric information.
