Other places to get alcoholic bubble teas, if you cbf to queue for Heytea January 31, 2019 Editorial XINDOTS Best of Lists No Comments It seems as though we will never run out of things to spend on, because some of these business operators are smooth operators. We’ve seen the gimmicky Rainbow Works’ Flaming Unicorn ($10), festive Old Chang Kee’s Hainan Chicken Rice curry pu s; now, alcohol and bubble tea? Who would have thought?! For the bubble tea a cionados, closet alcoholics and novelty-seekers, here’s a new one for y’all. Plus four other places to hit up, if you know you won’t be able to stand long queues at Heytea. Also, it most certainly looks like we’ll never run out of ways to hybridise our bubble tea. Next up— legalised marijuana? COTTON DREAMS
A kitschy cutesy little joint in Scape, Cotton Dreams is pretty much an all-in-one. Apart from cotton candy and unicorn cakes, get your ll of their Vodka Bubble Tea. Cotton Dreams’ creations are the most pared-back concoctions compared to the rest of those on the list. So don’t rock up expecting amboyant mixes, there will be none of that. But hey, at least here, the you’ll be assured of all the avours and textures expected of a traditional bubble tea. One of its no-frills fruity tea option is the Lychee Green Tea with a dousing of Vodka ($11.90). 2 Orchard Link; daily, 11am – 2pm, closed on Mon. HEYTEA Props to the branding team over at Heytea, who’s created an almost cult-like following for its rst store in Ion; and props to them for frenzied media coverage of its Clarke Quay opening promo (BOGO!!!). Although we must admit that Singaporeans love queuing for anything novel. It’s always interesting to see businesses pivot, and now you can grab yourselves some real elevated BBT served in fancy glasses. Exclusively sold in Singapore are two blends—Royal’s Romance ($22) and Scarlet’s Heart ($16). The rst sees a dousing of vodka in an otherwise innocent mix of Osmanthus oolong, grape juice and mangosteen pulp. The second skews more oral and fruity with cognac, fruit pulp and jasmine tea.
3 River Valley Rd., daily 10am – 10pm. THE LOCAL BOX The Local Box, a hyperlocal food joint in the CBD has quietly earned its chops as one of the rst few stalls in Singapore selling alcoholic bubble tea. Probably because it doubles up as a restaurant which actually has a veritable food menu, the alcoholic drinks have been sorely overlooked, until now. On a languid day—cheat-day—go for the Nutella Baileys Milk Tea ($11). For something lighter, Taro Tequila Milk Tea ($12). Yes, you may add pearls for an extra ($0.50) and you can also request for siu dai or ga dai. Our only grip, the curt menu of only three choices. 8 Enggor St., #01-05; 11am- 2 pm, closed on weekends. LOOF
Loof is one reason we stay back in the concrete jungle of the CBD after work. The menu is a thoughtful curation of drinks that pays a strong homage to Southeast Asian avours, ie. think Kaya Lumpur ($19), a cocktail of pineapple rum and kaya. The team at Loof also plays fast and loose with their three alcoholic bubble teas, each concoction increasingly more complex than the last. Take the Agave Bubble Tea ($20) with tequila, cherry liqueur, grapefruit, homemade ginger beer and tapioca. For something a bit tarty, there’s Loof’s namesake Bubble Tea ($21) a heady mix of orange liqueur, sour plum, passion fruit, calamansi and vodka, gin, rum. Cheers. Odeon Towers Extension Rooftop, 331 North Bridge Rd., #03-07; Thurs- Sat 5pm – 2am, Wed 12 – 1am and 5pm -12am.
Yes you get to keep the oat. So if that cute girl you were hitting on didn’t leave her number after a drink, at least you’ve got a memento of that dratted night. North Wing, 3 Temasek Blvd., #01-434.
