In 1998, then PM Mr Goh Chok Tong urged the Singapore Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (SFCCI) to examine how it could restructure itself to enhance its effectiveness in serving members as well as to better promote Singapore’s national interest. SFCCI proposed the formation of the Singapore Business Federation . The SBF Act was passed by Parliament and became law on 5 Oct 2001. The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) was formed on 1 April 2002.

Working with Large Corporates to Support SMEs Overseas GlobalConnect@SBF Strategic Partnerships Platform SBF initiated the GlobalConnect@SBF Strategic Partnerships platform to partner companies with strong international networks, which could expand the range and depth of expertise available to Singapore SMEs and ease the internationalisation process for Singapore SMEs. SBF inked MOUs with Keppel Land & UOB on 19 February 2021 and is working with other large companies through this platform. The partnership between SBF and UOB will allow Singapore businesses to access networks across Asia through UOB’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Advisory Unit’s 10 FDI centres.
