This week marked our transition to in person learning for scholars in grade 2-5! Thank you for all of your support to ensure your child is coming to school with their mask on and ready to learn! We are so happy to see our scholars face-to-face. I know that many families are continuing as a part of our school community in remote learning—and we are looking forward to nishing the year strong as one school community!
Timely Updates from Superintendent Dr. Campbell Please be sure to reference Dr. Campbell’s Friday e-Newsletter for the most up-to-date information related to our planning for in-person learning. Important: Please remember to complete the online Health Screening (attestation) Form Required Before Leaving Home It is very important that all families in the hybrid model complete the daily required online health screening (attestation). Daily health screening attestation and temperature checks must be completed every day for all staff and scholars before they leave for school. Parents will receive an e-mail from no-reply@fwps.org. Families can choose to opt into text messaging for the daily online health screening noti cations. Starting rst day of hybrid, for their child, primary guardians will receive daily notices for each child attending school face-to-face. Any parent can ll out the screening via the website or QR code. More information: www.fwps.org/healthscreening Safety is a top priority As we return to in-person learning, here are a few important reminders: All staff and scholars are required to wear masks at ALL times at our school campus and on the bus. If a scholar doesn't comply with wearing a mask, the school principal will call the parent/guardian to come and pick up the child. Social distancing will be practiced in all areas and there will be regular handwashing throughout the day. Visitors will not be allowed on campus in order to minimize the number of people on campus. Click here for Fun Friday! Counselor's Corner Hello Families: Spring Break should be time to rest, rejuvenate, and connect with family, but I know not everyone has Spring Break off… Some of you still have to work! Having an open, unplanned week can actually add stress to the household, rather than feel like a break! So here are a few simple ideas to create some relaxation and fun to your Spring Break, even if you are working… Or even if you are not working! · Have your children write their own Spring Break Daily Schedules! While you work, they can help out a little with chores, then plan a few fun things in their day, too. · Plan a movie night with all the xings – Popcorn, snacks, beverages, blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals! Have your kids set it up while you take a quiet 20 minutes to unwind and relax. · Plan a camping trip in your back yard… Or in your living room! Tell silly or spooky stories, read aloud out of a chapter book, make smores in the oven, gaze at the stars and notice all the different shapes and patterns in the sky. · Go for a nature walk. Have the kids create a scavenger hunt of different plants and bugs. · Lay a blanket out and look at the clouds oating by. Have kids draw pictures of what they see or tell stories about what is happening in the sky. · Allow your kids to do their own thing for awhile, even if it's video games, guilt free! Take that time to relax, watch a favorite show, or do something that brings you peace. When we take care of ourselves, we are more likely to have the energy and mindset to appreciate the simple moments with our kids. I truly hope you are able to nd some simple moments of peace, relaxation, and connection with your families over Spring Break. Battle of the Books Attention 4th and 5th Graders! Our school’s Battle of the Books will be held on Wednesday, May 5th at 3:30. You can join the event by joining Mrs. Lunde’s Zoom link, which can be found on her Canvas page. Students, staff and parents are welcome to join and support our teams. Be sure to mark your calendar! DUE TO SPRING BREAK; NO MEAL SERVICE APRIL 7 Federal Way Public Schools is dedicated to helping ensure scholars are well fed, so they are ready to learn. School meals are distributed every Wednesday. Funded by the USDA, meals are available for FWPS students and children aged 18 or younger at no cost. You are encouraged to apply for Free and or Reduced Meals online at https://www.fwps.org/lunchapplication Our schools receive additional support for those families that qualify. Paper applications are also available in our school o ce. All information is strictly con dential. How does the school meals program work? Meredith Hill pick-up time starts at 12:30 and ends at 2:30. Meal kits now include: 7 breakfasts and 7 lunches. Scholars will have a choice between a microwavable kit or ready to eat kit. Parents may pick up for their children ages 18 or younger. Child does not need to be present. Face Masks Are Required Please be sure to wear your mask when coming to school for any reason. This includes picking up lunches and school supplies. All scholars returning for hybrid (in-person learning) will be required to wear a mask while riding on the school bus and the entire time at school.
Please have your child practice this necessary task. Student Arrival and Dismissal – We need your help! We have been very busy creating a safe plan for all our student’s arrival and departure. Please be sure to mask up and have students masked up before arriving on campus. Please do not arrive before 9:00 or 1:05 If your student is arriving by bus we will be placing a color-coded bracelet on them to assure that they board the same bus to go home! We will help them off the bus where they will then wait in line on marked spots to have their temperatures taken. If you are bringing your student to school in a car please enter the parking lot and stay to the left. Please do not get out of your car. There will be staff in the upper parking lot to greet your student. Students will go down to the play shed where they will stand on marked spots to have their temperatures taken. If you are a preschool parent please park in the lower parking lot. All preschool students will meet their teacher in the front of their classroom before entering the building to have their temperature taken. If your student walks to school they will use the cross walk closer to the bus loop. They will be met by a staff member who will direct them to a marked spot to await entry. If you are walking your student to school we ask that you not cross the yellow line on the cement. Please wait there with your student and a staff member will meet your student. If your student walks to school and arrives in the back they can go straight to the covered shed and line up on a marked spot. If you are walking your student you, can come half way down the long staircase, use the trail to the other staircase and a staff member will be there to meet you and guide your student to the play shed. Thank you for understanding and supporting the plan to keep all our students safe. For departures we ask that you not come early. School is dismissed at 11:35 and 3:40. Please understand that dismissal is staggered so it will be more time consuming. If your student is to be picked up in a car, please meet them in the upper parking lot. There will be staff to assist students to the correct vehicle. Please stay in your car. When your student arrives in your car and they need assistance with their seat belt, when the line moves you can pull off to the buckle area to help them. Please look for direction from a staff member. We ask that the lead car pull all the way forward and then we can help three cars at a time. Please be patient and stay in line. When these three cars have been loaded, we can then help the next three. We have been able to successfully use this plan with a capacity school safely in 10 minutes.
If your student is a walker, please meet them in your designated arrival area behind the yellow line. Thank you for your support! Hybrid Scholars: Daily Required Health Screening Prior to your child leaving home, you are required to take your child/ren’s temperature and ll out the online health screening for each of your children. Daily reminder noti cations are only sent to the primary guardian on le; however, any parent can ll out the screening via a survey link which will be added to this webpage prior to the start of in person learning. The screening asks questions about symptoms and any possible COVID-19 exposure and is kept con dential. If your child shows any new COVID-19 symptoms, they need to stay home. At the end of the screening, it will let you know if your child is eligible to come to school. It will say if your child is certi ed (Ok to attend school), or not certi ed (must stay home). The school is also noti ed whether your child is eligible to come to school. Upon arrival to school, staff will check if the health screening and attestation was completed. If not completed, staff will contact you to complete the attestation before your child can enter the classroom. If your child comes to school but the answer to any of the questions is YES or they have a fever, you will be called to come pick them up.
