FTBOA.COM OBS Carrying Momentum Into Spring Sale BY BROCK SHERIDAN The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company will take the good momentum generated from their suc- cessful March Sale into their second juvenile sale of the year beginning Tuesday with the an- nual Spring Sale of Two Year Olds in Training. The Spring Sale, which is recognized as the world-wide monarch sale of 2-year-olds in train- ing, will be conducted four days through Friday with each session staring at 10:30 a.m. Hips 1 through 304 will sell Tuesday while Wednesday’s action will offer Hips 305 – 608. Thursday will offer Hips 609 – 912 and Friday’s finale will auction off Hips 913 – 1217. “The April sale has become the go to sale for 2-year-old buyers,” OBS president Tom Ventura said. “I think based on what happened in March, we are looking forward to picking up where we left off. I think going into the April sale we will have participation at all levels.” The success of the March Sale is not the only apparent catalyst for enthusiasm from sale officials, consignors and buyers. OBS graduates are generating notable stakes wins at tracks throughout the country this year. The top-rated turf horse in North America currently is Colonel Liam, a graduate of the OBS/SERITA HULT PHOTO 2019 OBS Spring Sale where he was consigned by Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables. Collusion Illusion, who is by Twirling Candy out of the First Dude mare Natalie Grace, became a Grade 1 winner in September with a victory in the Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar that also capped a three-race winning streak. The Bing Crosby followed a three-and-a-quarter-length victory in the Grade 3 Laz Barrera Stakes at Santa Anita in June and a second-condition, $62,500 optional claiming, also at Santa Anita on May 17. Collusion Illusion was a $300,000 purchase by Mark Glatt as an agent from the Mayberry Farm consignment at the 2019 Spring Sale. He has won five of nine career starts with earnings of $458,751 and was bred by Donald R. Dizney LLC. Mischevious Alex, who was offered at this sale in 2019 by Barry Eisaman’s Eisaman Equine, is multiple graded winner of $614,730 and won Grade 1 Carter Handicap by five-and-a-half-lengths at Aqueduct on April 3 for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. and Cash in King LLC and LC Racing. That was his second graded stakes win of the year having also won the Grade 3 Gulfstream Park Sprint on Feb. 13 by three-and-a-half-lengths. Mischevious Alex is by Into Mischief out of White Pants Night, by Speightstown and is undefeated in three starts this year and has seven wins from 12 starts overall. The series for 2-year-olds begins July 31 with the FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes Dr. Fager for colts and geldings and the FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes Desert Vixen, both of which offer a purse of $100,000 and are run at six fur- longs. The series continues Aug. 28 with the $200,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes Affirmed for 2-year-old males and the $200,000 FTBOA Susan’s Girl for fillies, both carded at seven furlongs. The series concludes on Sept. 25 with the $400,000 FTBOA Florida Sire In Reality for colts and geldings and the $400,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes My Dear Girl for fillies, both at a mile-and-one-six- teenth.
