NZQA Role and Responsibilities NZQA's role in the education sector is to ensure that New Zealand qualifications are accepted as credible and robust, nationally and internationally, in order to help learners succeed in their chosen endeavours and to contribute to New Zealand society. NZQA is responsible for: • managing the New Zealand Qualifications Framework • administering the secondary school assessment system • independent quality assurance of non-university tertiary education providers • qualifications recognition and standard-setting for some specified unit standards.
Tertiary Entrance Verification This application is in use between NZQA, New Zealand Universities and Australian Tertiary Admission Centres and Universities. It is a digital means for the institutions to check that New Zealand candidates meet the entrance criteria to courses they want to undertake. It is highly unlikely the service will extend outside of Australia and New Zealand due to the low numbers of New Zealand students enrolling elsewhere.

This system has students results for years 12 and 13 and goes back to 2004. Results are stable for previous years but are subject to change for the current year in focus until March the following year. This system is likely to be replaced by APIs over time, we have 1 university in NZ developing an application that aids on boarding students with minimum effort using APIs to extract the required data. Changes to the Privacy Act in 2020 also make sharing data outside of New Zealand difficult at the moment until such time as the recipient country can demonstrate their Privacy Laws are comparable with New Zealand’s. Our law is largely comparable with those in the European Union. 4

NZROA Generally learners will already have registered as there results are delivered to them via this mechanism 14

NZROA Learners are able to customise the content of the transcript is they wish to. This is limited to deselecting achievement they do not wish to include. There will be a statement at the end of the transcript if they omit any achievement, this will be shown in a later slide. Learner will generally omit older achievement or achievement that isn’t relevant to what they are using the transcript for. Often they will omit school or lower level achievement when applying for jobs. 16
NZROA We advise learners to use Google Chrome when generating these files, our experience is the documents created via Chrome are the most stable for verification purposes. 17
NZROA 18
NZROA A time/Date stamp is added at the end of each transcript along with the verification URL and other useful URLs regarding New Zealand qualifications. 19
NZROA Text is added at the end of the transcript if any achievement is omitted by the Learner. 20
NZROA NZQA uses the drop file method of verification. Digital signatures was explored but this functionality was too expensive for a service that is offered free of charge. 21
