Community Newsletter July 2018 Nepean Hospital REDEVELOPMENT UPDATE The Stage 1 redevelopment at Nepean Hospital is proceeding full steam ahead and the Government has instructed Health Infrastructure to give priority to planning for Stage 2 this year and to continue to deliver across the network of Western Sydney hospitals. This billion dollar investment in Nepean Hospital will give the community and medical staff the facilities needed to support the growing Western Sydney population. Construction on Nepean’s new $26 million multi-storey hospital car park is already underway and the new clinical services building is scheduled for completion in 2021. Included in Stage 1 of the redevelopment is the upgrade of the Cancer Centre. This includes reconfiguring the centre to double the number of chemotherapy treatment spaces from 15 to 30 and expanding the centre to incorporate a second radiation therapy bunker. The planning and design phase is almost complete with works due to commence shortly. Additionally, Stage 1 will provide 200 more beds and a new emergency department and it is also responding to the needs of local young families with expanded maternity and neonatal services. Work underway on GLENBROOK INTERSECTION UPGRADE Improved safety is on the way for motorists at Glenbrook with work underway on the Glenbrook intersection upgrade. The Australian and NSW governments are upgrading the Great Western Highway and Ross Street intersection as part of the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan, a 10 year $3.6 billion road investment program. The Glenbrook intersection upgrade will improve safety and access along the Great Western Highway, while enhancing the primary gateway to Glenbrook Village. The upgrade will involve providing new traffic lights at Ross Street to enable safe right turns onto the Great Western Highway. Hare Street, between Wascoe Street and the Great Western Highway, will be closed to general traffic once the Ross Street lights are switched on to improve safety for motorists. Importantly, emergency vehicles will still be able to access the Great Western Highway from Hare Street with the use of a mountable kerb. For more information visit www.rms.nsw.gov.au/wsip HADLEY PARK LISTED ON THE NSW STATE HERITAGE REGISTER Hadley Park has now been listed on the NSW State Heritage Register, ensuring its rich history is now secured for future Western Sydney generations. The property was once home to Charles Hadley, a pardoned convict who settled in the Castlereagh area and began building his estate within 20 years of the first fleet arriving. It has had a long association with the Hadley family, who until recently occupied the property for around 200 years. The property on the floodplain of the Nepean River is one of Australia’s oldest farming estates and an example of one of the earliest European land grants. PENRITH CONSUMERS WIN WITH GIFT CARD REFORMS I was joined by Matt Kean, Minister for Innovation & Better Regulation to announce that Penrith consumers are now able to enjoy extended expiry dates on gift cards, thanks to nation-leading reforms introduced by the NSW Government. All gift cards sold in NSW must have a minimum three-year expiry date. This move that officially came into force on March 31 will put up to $60 million a year back in the hands of NSW shoppers. For more information about the reforms, visit http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au
