NEW MEMBER Kerry Kishbaugh He enjoys driving and having fun with Corvettes. FYI… Most Corvettes really ARE Red Since 1954, when Chevrolet introduced red as a color choice, it often was the customers’ favorite. This year (1984) was no different with nearly a third of the cars (6,956) delivered painted in Bright Red and another 10 percent (2,353) in Dark Red Metallic. White and black ended the year in a virtual photo finish for second and third at 4,872 and 4,759, respectively. Competition Yellow proved the least popular color (278) despite its selection as one of two colors for the 80 “Indy Festival” commemoratives Chevrolet produced. The other Festival choice, Turquoise Metallic, sold twice as well, at 589 copies. 14
2019 LVCA Championship Drag Racing Series - Final Round The last drag race of the season for the LVCA Championship Drag Racing Series was held at The Strip on Saturday, September 26th, 2019. In addition to the racers, new member, Mike Mankin came out to cheerlead and take photos. The temperatures were great with a nice 85 degrees; however, the winds were very brisk at 35 to 40 mph. The winds were no problems for the Corvettes, but the super-fast light weight cars were restricted to 1/8 mile during com- petition. After two practice time trial runs down the track, the serious racing started. Ken and Gary showed up in the finals. Gary brought out his shinny white C7 Z06 and posted an 11.46 second ET bracket time on his rear window. Ken brought out his older and slower blue C5 and posted a 13.40 second ET bracket times. After the burn out smoke settled and staging ended, Ken got a 2.06 second head start. Gary was charging fast to catch Ken, but he came up just bit short. Ken was crowned champion for the final round of the 2019 LVCA Drag Racing Series. During the drag racing series 10 LVCA members competed for the championship. After five drag racing events of intense competition throughout the spring, summer, and fall the championship points (best 4 of 5 events) have been complied. The 2019 LVCA Drag Racing Champion will be announced at the 2020 LVCA Awards Banquet. I want to thank all of the LVCA members that attended the drag racing series this year as racers, spectators, and cheerleaders. 2020 will start LVCA’s 16th year of championship drag racing. Hope to see even more racers next year. 15

“Vette-Together at the Winery” Sunday September 29th, 2019 The “Vette-Together” started at the Rounder’s on Blue Diamond Road with a total of 25 Corvettes of various generations. Our group assembled and upon paying the community ser- vice donation of $5 were given a bottle of water with a commemorative label on it. A total of $320 was raised for the Las Vegas Rescue Mission, Thank-You All! We went through our driver’s meeting and set-up two groups for our caravan to the winery. Before departing we assembled the group of 52 attendees together for a photograph. The drive to the winery was very pleasant as the day was sunny but a little breezy…no bother as the convertibles still braved it and had their tops down for the cruise. Once at the winery the cars were parked along both sides of the winery front row. 17
Our host Jack Sanders had set-up a room for our group with a beautiful display of his wines. Jack did a great job describing each of the wines we were tasting along with several antidotes along the way. The tasting concluded with the presenting of a Certifi- cate of Appreciation from the Las Vegas Corvette Asso- ciation to Jack and the crew at the winery for a job well done. 18
2019 RE #3 MTT 10/13/19 Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Metro Lot By Marvin Maize Photos by Ken Rees This was our third Racers Edge MTT event for the year. We were back again at the Speedway Metro Lot but on the east end this time. The weather was clear and dry and warmed up but was not hot for a great day of racing. The setup crew had designed a challenging course about .9 mile in length and it flowed well making a great course for Corvettes. Even though it flowed well, I went off course my first two runs until course workers pointed out my error and I got it right. It can happen to anyone and entrants are eager to help others. If you want you can ride with others or have them ride with you. We had 3 LVCA RE entrants out of the total 94 entries. There were 8 official runs with 4 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. We had one C5 driver and two C7s. Again the times were so very close with less than a tenth of a second for the maximum MTT difference. Results are as follows: Diff. Points Best 1. Jerry Cline 0.003 12 Points 56.317 2. Marvin Maize 0.091 11 Points 53.369 3. Ken Rees 0.095 10 Points 58.842 We have 2 more Racer's Edge MTT events left this year. Come on out and play with us. 19
Story & Photos: Gino and Scarlett Montoya We had 40 of our club members participate in the Gino and Scarlett's Ely ghost train ride. It was a memorable and spooktacular experience for all those who participated! Our caravan with 15 Corvettes departed Moe's Race Cafe at 9:00 am. The drive to Ely brought back fond racing memories for those members that have experienced the Silver State races. After a few quick stops along the route we arrived around 2:00 pm, then it was social time at the hotel's parking lot. The first night's dinner at the Jailhouse restaurant was a big success! Ken Rees invited a special guest Bunny Hill, who is the SSCC Executive Director to join us. She gave everyone in the group a special "cool" scarf. Af- ter a delicious dinner many club members went across the street to Mr. Gino’s bar for karaoke. The next day many club members explored the town of Ely, including the railroad museum and other local businesses and establishments. 20
The second evening we gathered at Mr. Gino‘s for an early dinner as we were all anxiously awaiting the ride on the ghost train. Dinner was hosted by our own Mr. Gino, a.k.a. Gino Montoya. Costumes were optional, however a lot of members participated by dressing up and looking fantastic! Then it was on to the Ely train station. It was dark and spooky with a chill in the air as we waited outside to board our train car. We were soon met by our conductor who shouted "all aboard." A few minutes after we departed the station we viewed aliens and a UFO, a headless horseman, hitchhiking ghosts, haunted tunnels, creepy campfires and ghastly ghosts right along the trains tracks! Several members even thought they saw Sasquatch! It was chills and thrills the entire train ride for all of our LVCA members! 21
