WELCOME The National Gallery of Victoria is a place for everyone and FREE EXHIBITION FOR KIDS warmly welcomes children, teenagers and families. Part of NGV Triennial, artist Misaki Kawai presents Moja Moja Life: Misaki Kawai for Kids, an indoor playground featuring a display This year, the NGV Kids Summer Festival presents nine days of colourful furry sculptures of dogs and a puppet studio. With a of activities to enjoy in the Gallery or from the comfort of your love of mimetic word pairings spoken in the Japanese language, home. Top Arts 2020 celebrates the exceptional and thought-provoking work of VCE Art and VCE Studio Arts students from across Victoria. Marking Time: Indigenous Art from the NGV explores drawings and markings of figures, signs or text made on public surfaces across Indigenous Australia. TIWI celebrates the unique art and culture of the Tiwi people of Melville and Bathurst Islands and explores the dynamic trajectory of Tiwi art across time and across media, from 1911 to now. ARTIST Cassie Leatham Cassie Leatham is a Taungurung artist, dancer, weaver and educator with a passion for sharing Indigenous people’s cultures. She has exhibited widely and her artworks have been acquired by the NGV, Koorie Heritage Trust Collection and Magistrate’s Court of Victoria. Learn how to use everyday household materials to create a puppet and a vibrant scene with a free downloadable NGV Kids activity sheet. ARTIST Misaki Kawai Misaki Kawai’s exhibitions immerse the viewer in colourful environments. Her bold, colourful artworks reflect an approach to art-making described as ‘heta-uma’ – a Japanese term used to refer to a good idea combined with little attention to technique. ONLINE EVENT: FAMILY MEDITATION WITH LITTLE WARRIORS YOGA Little Warriors Yoga lead children and families in a guided yoga and meditation session to reflect, relax and explore the calming effect of nature, inspired by Lee Ufan’s Dialogue, 2017, and Kengo Kuma and Geoff Nees’s Botanical Pavillion, 2020, in the NGV Triennial. Children can cut, collage and create their own animal face using a free printable NGV activity template designed with Troy. ARTIST Troy Emery Troy Emery is an artist based in Melbourne whose practice includes sculpture using textiles, painting, and drawing. Troy’s work is held in various private and public collections. SPEAKER Adam Briggs, aka Briggs Briggs is a rapper, writer, presenter and actor. He established a solo career before co-founding the hip hop duo A.B.Original. He has written for the Netflix animated series Disenchantment from the creators of The Simpsons, written and performed on the sketch comedy series Black Comedy, and featured in a number of television series including Cleverman, The Other Guy, and The Weekly with Charlie Pickering. Briggs was named the GQ Agenda Setter of the Year in 2017. ONLINE EVENT: UNDER 5S: COLOUR WITH DANIELLE BRUSTMAN Melbourne interior designer Danielle Brustman leads a journey to discover her exhibition designs for Spectrum: An Exploration of Colour and installation for NGV Triennial in a live interactive online event for children aged 2–5 years and their parents or carers. Young artists can watch a colour inspired art- making demonstration to try at home using an NGV Kids activity sheet. DESIGNER Danielle Brustman Danielle established her interior design studio in 2012 and has presented her installations and work nationally and internationally. Recently she has transformed The Brighton Street Early Learning Centre into a vibrant wonderland for children. With Melbourne artist Tai Snaith, discover environmentally conscious ways to create animal habitats using recycled materials, inspired by the NGV Triennial theme of Conservation. Tai will demonstrate collage techniques to create an artistic habitat. ARTIST Tai Snaith Tai Snaith is an artist, writer and broadcaster. She writes and illustrates picture books for children, makes ceramics and produces paintings and collages as well as larger public projects. Tai exhibits in both artist-run and commercial spaces since graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts. NGV TEENS: WHAT IS? In this series of live interactive events teens can ask questions and unpack concepts from art and design with industry leaders. Developed especially for teens aged 13–18 years, this series provides an opportunity to connect with contemporary artists and designers to explore ideas and discover new art-making processes to try at home. The NGV Teens program is supported by The Truby and Florence Williams Charitable Trust, managed by Equity Trustees, The Ullmer Family Foundation, Beatrice Moignard and The JTM Foundation. Inspired by her installation for the NGV Triennial, Melbourne interior designer Danielle Brustman leads teens in an interactive online event exploring the role of colour within interior design. Teens can engage in a hands-on design activity using everyday materials and objects from around the home. Ever wondered what it’s like working in the fashion industry? Jade Sarita Arnott of local womenswear label Arnsdorf leads teens in a workshop exploring sustainable approaches in the fashion industry. Hear about Arnsdorf’s progression towards sustainability, pose questions and engage in a making activity using unwanted textiles. DESIGNER Jade Sarita Arnott Jade Sarita Arnott is the designer and founder of Arnsdorf, a modern fashion brand that is working to bring about a new level of accountability to the fashion industry. For NGV Triennial, artist collective Tromarama have created a mural-sized LED curtain using a computer program commonly used in video game platforms. Teens will investigate the relationship between the virtual and physical world with Tromarama before engaging in an activity inspired by their artwork. ARTISTS Tromarama Tromarama is an Indonesian artist collective founded by Febie Babyrose, Herbert Hans and Ruddy Hatumena. Engaging with the notion of hyperreality in the digital age, the artists explore the interrelationship between the virtual and the physical world. The collective often combines video, installations, computer programming and public participation. AT THE GALLERY: NGV TEENS: MAKE A MEME Art inspires us! It can shift our thinking, move us emotionally and at times amuse us. When visiting the NGV look out for the Make a Meme digital interactive on screens in the Gallery Kitchen and Levels 1 and 2. With a smartphone camera, scan the QR code, then select one of the images of artworks from the NGV’s historical collections and capture your thoughts with a caption. A selection of submitted memes will be screened in the Gallery during the NGV Triennial.
