MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 RULES AND PROCEDURE The MUS Involvement Package contains information about and applications for all appointed portfolio and club positions under the MUS for the 2020-2021 year. ● There is no limit to how many positions you can apply ● Please submit one application form per position that you are interested in ● Submit applications at http://mus.mcgill.ca/involvement by Tuesday, October 21st, 2020 at 11:59PM ● You will be contacted by the respective committee head within two weeks of the deadline POSITION SEARCH ON THE APPLICATION FORM If you cannot find the position you would like to apply for in the drop-down list at http://mus.mcgill.ca/involvement, search for the position by typing its name under “What position are you applying for?”. MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 PRESIDENT PORTFOLIO Position Available: MUS Presidential Assistant (1) ** [Y] ● The MUS Presidential Assistant is responsible for handling tasks related to the office of the MUS President. If you are interested in either the governance or operations of the MUS, this role is for you. ● Job requirements include but are not limited to: o Taking minutes at and scheduling executive and board meetings o Reviewing presidential correspondence o Providing general office support MUS Involvement Package 2020-21 | Page 4 of 16
MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 VP ACADEMIC PORTFOLIO Position Available: Director of Workshops to Youth (1)** ● Develop the content for and lead discussions on sustainable business in CEGEPS, to show students opportunities for involvement at University and in their careers ● Coordinate with environmental student groups and members of administration from CEGEPS to organize discussions Position Available: Campaign Coordinator (1)** ● Researching and compiling names of sustainability minded professors in business schools ● Supporting the recruitment and coordination of campaign ambassadors ● Outreach to professors in business schools across the country to share manifesto and ambassador opportunity MUS Involvement Package 2020-21 | Page 5 of 16
MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 VP COMMUNICATIONS PORTFOLIO Positions Available: MUS Website Manager ** ● Responsible for the maintenance and development of the MUS’s website ● He/She will work along with the VP of Communications to implement new features or design the look of the website ● In addition, the Web Designer may also need to create custom webpages when requested. ● Basic skills in HTML/CSS, preferably with knowledge in PHP, ● Experience with Squarespace required ● Able to commit at least 1-3 hours per week MCGILL BUSINESS REVIEW The McGill Business Review was founded in 2015 and is the first periodical at McGill University devoted solely to the publication of articles focusing on the global business community. The MBR, an online and print journal, serves as an outlet for students to express their varied views and opinions on a range of business topics, including: economics, entrepreneurship, finance, investing, innovation and government policy. MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 VP COMPETITIONS PORTFOLIO THE DESAUTELS PREPARATORY CASE COMPETITION (DPCC) The Ambassador Program is a student group whose mission is to actively promote higher education and leadership amongst CEGEP and high school students, with a focus on the personal development opportunities provided by a business education. Position Available: Director of Communications (1) ** ● Establish awareness of DPCC within and outside the McGill community ● Coordinate the recruitment of volunteers to participate in DMLS ● Work closely with DPCC executives to increase recognition and visibility of competition and participants recruitment ● Maintain the social media presence on all external communications ● Technical skills in Photoshop, InDesign, Canva Photoshop, and basic HTML is an asset Position Available: Director of Recruitment (1) ** ● Responsible contacting various English and French CEGEPS ● Being the liaison between CEGEPS and the DPCC team ● Organizing information sessions with CEGEPs MUS Involvement Package 2020-21 | Page 7 of 16
MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 VP COPORATE RELATIONS PORTFOLIO Position Available: Director of Proposal Development (1-2) ** ● In charge of designing and structuring the MUS sponsorship package (CR Overview Package) ● Work closely with committees to structure, design, and maintain sponsorship packages using templates. ● Responsible for approving every club sponsorship package prior to their distribution to sponsors, following MUS Branding and Communication Guidelines. Will propose changes to make the packages conform to MUS Branding and Communication Guidelines. ● Aid localized sponsorship directors in developing customized sponsorship packages for each committee and event. ● Experience in graphic and document design with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, etc. is a big asset. MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 VP DEVELOPMENT AND OUTREACH PORTFOLIO 5 DAYS FOR THE HOMELESS 5 Days for the Homeless McGill is a student group that works to raise awareness about homelessness in Montreal as well as to raise donations for Chez Doris and Dans La Rue, two organizations in the Montreal community who are supporting homeless and at-risk women and youth respectively. Throughout the year we organize different events such as (but not limited to) volunteering with organizations, outreach with the homeless community, and sleeping outside for 5 nights to raise awareness on campus. Position Available: Director of Communications Must be available from September 2020–April 2021 and able to devote 2-5 hours per week • Looking for creative, self-sufficient, proactive, and detail-oriented individuals • Point person with all media outlets and external relations, in charge of managing email • Coordinate the recruitment of volunteers to participate in the 5-Day long event in March 2020 • Take notes during weekly meetings • Strong communication skills • Knowledge of both French and English is an asset Position Available: Volunteer Coordinator Must be available from September 2020–April 2021 and able to devote 2-5 hours weekly and 10 hours per week closer to the event date • Make canvassing schedule for volunteers/participants to fill out, ensuring all slots are full & • remind people when they are canvassing • Be prepared to take over if someone can’t make it or find a replacement for themselves • Maintain contact with volunteers during the week • Recruit new volunteers • Look for and communicate volunteering opportunities in Montreal • Help the Director of Events when necessary MUS Involvement Package 2020-21 | Page 9 of 16
MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 P[H]ASSION P[h]assion is a non-profit organization that raises awareness and funds for the AIDS/HIV communities of Montreal. Our main event is a student run fashion show in the winter semester. Throughout the year our executive team works on the conception and building of the show. We also have various fundraising events under the form of networking events, hype events, and more. Positions Available: Promotion Coordinators (2) * • Must be available from October 2020–April 2021 and able to devote 5 hours per week • Act as a representative of P[h]assion on social media platforms to promote online events & spring fashion show • Create engaging content related to fashion trends, ethical consumption, and HIV/AIDS awareness • Must have high energy, enthusiasm and an outgoing personality Position Available: Graphic Designer * • Must be available from October 2020 – April 2021 and able to devote 5 hours per week • Design & create promotional material for P[h]assion • Work closely with the Director of Communications to ensure promotion methods are achieved • Technical skills (Adobe Creative Suite, with an emphasis on InDesign and Photoshop, etc.) and social media management is an asset • Must have strong communications skills and preferable experience in marketing events Position Available: Director of Production ** • Must be available from October 2020– April 2021 and able to devote 5-10 hours per week • Facilitate preparations for our events and initiatives, including finding venues, set design, photographers & videographers, etc. • Must have strong organization and communication skills; experience in logistics is an asset MUS WELLNESS WEEK Position Available: Executive Assistant to the Director of Wellness Week [Y] (1) * • Must be available from October 2020–April 2021 and able to devote up to hours per week • Will work closely with the Director of Wellness Week and the VP Development & Outreach MUS Involvement Package 2020-21 | Page 10 of 16
MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 VP EVENTS CANCER AUCTION For the past 40 years, the Cancer Auction Committee has worked closely with the MUS and members of the business community to raise funds for cancer research, with all proceeds benefiting the Canadian Cancer Society. Last year's auction was a great success, with the community’s generosity and support helping us raise over $52,000 for cancer research, treatment and development. Position Available: Donations Coordinator [Y] (2-3) ** ● Must be able to devote up to 5 hours per week during September 2020 – January 2021 ● Work with the Executive Directors to help secure a record number of items and donations from companies ● Must be very passionate, self-sufficient, proactive, have a wide network of relationships amongst companies, and be an effective salesperson ● Sales or sponsorship experience is an asset BRONFMAN BALL Bronfman Ball is an annual formal hosted by the MUS for all graduating students. Position Available: Executive Director (1) ** ● Organize and coordinate the Desautels Ball and all its fundraising activities ● Responsible for overseeing, planning and logistical execution ● Experience in formal event planning an asset. MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 VP INTERNAL AFFAIRS PORTFOLIO CONFERENCES ENTERTAINMENT MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE (EMC) Entertainment Management Conference (EMC) seeks to expose the young professional to the various exciting opportunities in the entertainment industry. Over the course of 2 days, hundreds of young professionals will gather and participate in interactive workshops, inspiring panels, and networking sessions to explore topics such as music, film, gaming, nightlife, and more. The EMC Committee is looking for a dedicated, hard-working individual to join the team and help organize one of the most innovative conferences at McGill! Position Available: Director of Communications (1)** • Responsible for producing written EMC content in a voice that is professional and representative of the brand. • Responsible for developing email marketing campaigns, if needed, via Mailchimp listservs. • Work with the Director of Marketing to ensure consistent branding throughout all communications. • If needed, act as the direct contact point for external parties including media coverage and maintain professional and consistent communications. Positions Available: Director of Speaker Relations & Workshops (2) ** • Curating this year’s panels and workshops • Ensuring speakers are familiar with panel and workshop content and expectations for their role by creating guides for each speaker. • Selecting and contacting appropriate and interesting speakers. • Establish contact and maintain professional relations with workshop directors, panel speakers, keynote speakers and moderators • Acting as the main point of contact for all speakers. • Maintain professional relationship with all panelists before, during and after the event. Positions Available: Director of Logistics (2) ** • Responsible for confirming venue details: o This includes and is not limited to venue confirmation and all venue-related matters, liquor permits, A/V and sound equipment technologies • Responsible for venue design for the event. • Handle all macro-level logistical aspects of EMC • Contact various artists/performers/bands to provide entertainment at EMC • Select, train and oversee volunteers during the conference. MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 • Create a schedule for volunteers (shifts). • Book all table sessions and shifts for all members in the committee. Position Available: Director of Sponsorship (1) ** • Devise and implement a comprehensive sponsorship plan for EMC. • Find relevant and appropriate sponsors • Establish contact and maintain professional and consistent relations with potential and existing sponsors • With oversight from the Executive Directors, draft a comprehensive, detailed and professional sponsorship package. • Find new and useful opportunities of sponsorship beyond typical monetary contributions. • Work collaboratively with VP Finance to manage budget and sponsors. Position Available: Director of External Relations (1) • Responsible for recruitment and collaboration alongside ambassadors from other universities. • Responsible of finding ways to attract students from other universities by means such as tabling. • Bilingualism preferred, but not required DESAUTELS FASHION BUSINESS UNCOVERED (FBU) Offering some of Canada’s brightest students an insider look into an industry so rarely demystified beyond the main areas of creative and sales support, FBU sets out to give students the information and tools necessary to find a position of interest in such a varied and dynamic sector. Keeping a close eye on local success, all the while exploring major international brands, 200 attendees come to hear about the career paths and current industry trends from some of the biggest players in the industry. Position Available: Brand Ambassadors [Y] (2) ● Promote the club and the conference to both the Desautels and McGill student bodies (particularly to U0 and U1 students). ● If needed, assist during any pre-FBU events or at the conference itself. ● Ideal candidates have a professional attitude, are eager to network, have great communication skills and display strong teamwork. Position Available: Creative Producer [Y] (1) ● Work with the Director of Communications to create engaging promotional material. ● Responsible for producing, shooting, and editing promotional videos. ● Knowledge of video editing required. Position Available: Sponsorship Coordinator [Y] (1) ● Work with the Director of Sponsorship as well as MUS Corporate Relations Committee in locating corporate sponsorship MUS Involvement Package 2020-21 | Page 13 of 16
MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 ● Generally assist Director of Sponsorship in logistical aspects of corporate relations, ensuring smooth communications and experiences for all participating and potential sponsors MCGILL SOCIAL BUSINESS NETWORK Position Available: Ambassador (1) ** ● Shadow and collaborate with current directors, and assist in the organization of events and other relevant tasks ● Perform outreach and maintain relationships with other student organizations ● Be an active contributor, willing to take initiative and complete ad hoc tasks ● Ideal candidates have a professional attitude, are eager to network, have great communication skills and display strong teamwork DESAUTELS TECH (DTECH) The clubs offers the opportunity for our members to learn about technology and how it impacts business while also helping them position themselves better in the job market. From becoming an Excel Wizard to discovering how Fintech and Artificial Intelligence will change the game or understanding how online marketers leverage all the data you produce to optimize their decisions; members are going to learn about the future of business. Position Available: Director of Communications (1)** • Manage and maintain the DTECH brand on all social media platforms • Work with the Creative Director to create effective marketing campaigns • Responsible for producing any written DTECH content in a voice that is professional and representative of the brand Position Available: Director of Sponsorship (1) ** • Reach out to organizations within the tech industry to close sponsorship deals • Maintain a solid relationship with acquired sponsors • Work with the MUS Corporate Relations committee to locate corporate sponsorship • Provide the Director of Finance with ongoing updates to ensure that sufficient funds are available to support projected costs MUS Involvement Package 2020-21 | Page 14 of 16
MUS INVOLVEMENT PACKAGE – FALL 2020 MCGILL DATA NETWORK Position Available: Director of Projects (1) *** • Work across all department to gain understanding of club operations before stepping into a key executive position the following semester • Create new initiatives and assist the other Directors with the organization of existing events • Assist and work closely with Co-Presidents on MDN’s strategy and its implementation • Oversee all logistics and speaker relations teams leading up to and the day-of the MDN Conference • Collaborate with all Directors to ensure effective task execution MCGILL INVESTMENT CLUB (MIC) The McGill Investment Club (MIC) is a comprehensive finance club that plays a significant role in bridging the gap between the classroom and the financial workplace. It proudly supports the career preparation and development processes of McGill students. The MIC strives to help educate students about the financial markets via seminars, speaker-series, information sessions, newsletters, and forums on market-specific topics. Position Available: Energy & Sustainability Stock Pitch Competition Co-Chair (1) • Responsible for supporting Senior MIC executives from the external portfolio in their responsibilities • Hire, along with the Trading Simulation Chair, a team of coordinators to assist in the organization of both events. • Run the organization of the Stock Pitch Competition. This includes, but not limited to, o Spearheading the following portfolio: § Logistics § Academics § Marketing (along with the junior VP Internal) § Sponsorship (in collaboration with the VP External) Position Available: Junior VP Internal (1) • Responsible for supporting Senior MIC executives from the internal portfolio in their responsibilities such as the Investment Committee, Round Table Discussion, and Podcast initiatives • Production of appropriate visuals for marketing & promotion purposes • Promotion of MIC events on Facebook, Instagram and other appropriate communication media • Required to attend all MIC events where industry professionals are hosted MUS Involvement Package 2020-21 | Page 15 of 16
