We decorated it with a new trailer wrap because there is no better way to welcome a new year than with a new look! The truck will hit the road soon, delivering bulk livestock and poultry feed to some of your farms. We hope you enjoy the new addition and look forward to making more upgrades to our fleet in the future. FOUNTAINS & PARTS Keeping your farm fountains well-operating is important year-round. If you are in need of a new fountain, parts or de-icing equipment, we carry Ritchie® Fountains and parts in Howard Lake at the Country Store. Ritchie® Fountains are made of high-quality materials including stainless steel to prevent corrosion and thick polyethylene with a tight seal to keep moisture from reaching the insulation. They are built with animal safety and energy efficiency in mind and use 75% less energy than concrete troughs. Ritchie® fountains keep water fresh by allowing only the proper amount of water to sit in the trough when your animals are not drinking. If you have questions about fountains or need help purchasing one, ask for Paul at the Country Store. He is very knowledgable on these products!
MN-MADE PRODUCT COLLECTION We debuted our MN-Made Collection at the Country Store just before Black Friday. It has been well-shopped, and we will continue to stock the display and support local businesses in 2022. We find it more important than ever to support small businesses right now and will continue to rotate items to offer a variety of products to our shoppers. Our MN-Made Collection is located conveniently near the register at the Country Store. Please check out our display next time you visit and feel free to let our managers Elise or Everett know if you have product suggestions. NEW STORE EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT Sarah Swart joined the Munson Lakes Team in November. She is a customer turned Country Store employee. Sarah is well-versed on many of the products we carry and is excited for the opportunity to serve her community in the retail space! She houses many species of animals on her farm including llamas, cats, cows and a peacock! Her daughter owns a registered Holstein, and all of her children show animals at local fairs. Sarah will attend Purina's Research Performance Specialist Program in Gray Summit, Missouri, in February where she will learn skills for goal setting, retailing, display building, planning and hosting events. It will be a great opportunity for her to learn about Purina products and how to best serve you at the Country Store! THE PURINA ANIMAL NUTRITION CENTER The Purina Animal Nutrition Center is a working farm that opened in 1926 in Gray Summit, Missouri. The center is responsible for over 24,000 animal nutrition studies across dozens of species. Over 80 horses and hundreds of beef cattle are studied on its campus. Cattle are studied at the farm with the intention to find healthier ways to help dairy operators optimize production. The 1,200 acres research facility houses 3,000 animals and a state- of-the-art facility for microbiome and metabolism studies. 300 employees, including 55 PHDs, work at the center to bring you new Purina products and "unlock the greatest potential of every animal."
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT VFD AUDITS Over the last couple years, we have experienced challenges from Covid-19's Delta and Omicron variants. With rumors of more variants to come, we feel impacts on the supply change due to labor shortages. If we take a step back in time, what were some other concerns that threw a red flag of caution to our industry? The economy collapse of the 80's? Y2K? The housing collapse of 2007? Veterinary Feed Directives (VFD's) enforcement in 2017? Reflecting on this made us realize that we have been doing VFD’s for 5 years now! On January 4th, 2022- almost exactly 5 years to the date of VFD's introduction to the industry- we had an inspection by the MN Department of Agriculture to review our Medicated Feed License and facility. They reviewed our 1,731 active VFD’s on file. At the end of the day, they concluded we passed with an excellent audit. In reviewing the VFD’s, we talked about what happens “on the farm” if a producer gets a call that they are coming to do an audit. Here is what they will ask for and what to expect: A list of VFD’s for the past 2 years A specific VFD with the label, formula and sales ticket For you to explain how to read your label and how to understand it To see your storage area to confirm if any medicated drug and medicated feed is segregated from the rest of the inventory To see if your bins and pens are labeled To check your mixer/TMR for hang ups or caked on product and to determine how often you clean it To take possible samples of medicated mixed feed and medication, if you have any on hand Things to keep in mind: Please work with your Veterinary to get your VFD's Follow labels and VFD's Munson Lakes Nutrition LLC If you get the call, feel free to call us Brian J.
